I have to agree, if we're going to think positive, it means I'll have a little more time between purchases. Let's see.... The Pretender, Joan of Arcadia (seasons one), The West Wing season four, and M*A*S*H season eight are all coming out soon. I'm seriously worried about becoming a couch potato. cg

July huh?
My guess is it might be the music that's a problem, since VH1 has stopped doing "Where Are They Now" and it's hard to know where some of these people are. ;D
It also might be, and I hate to say it, but it is possible that certain people whose careers have not been as bright as Pierce and Doris' have been, may be arguing for bigger cuts of royalties for the DVDs.
And no gang, I don't mean Stephanie.

Doubtful. I think most of that is a matter of SAG Union designated %'s for VHS/DVD's or %'s that were arrived by contract when the original series/film was done by the actor.
And as far as lower profile careers go, James Read actually works more on TV and film than than Zimbalist does.

Personally I think the Fox DVDs will EVENTUALLY be released. Mind you, I am not always a glass-half-full type of person. But Ace has put forth sensible observations here.
Having said that, I just stumbled upon themagicofdvds.com (click on "Mysteries") which will be happy to sell us 47 bootleg Remington Steele episodes on 11 discs - for $119.99.
If desperation gets the better of me ...

Wait! Stop! IcyCalm, don't get too impatient. We wouldn't want you spending your money on bootleg DVDs and then being carted of to jail by the FBI. Besides, you do want to spend your money where it counts, on the Fox DVDs so the company will have an incentive to produce more. More buyers = more seasons on DVD.

Never fear, I'll be buying the Fox DVDs, and count them among my most precious possessions. I might even buy a duplicate set just in case the first one goes bad. I just mentioned the "bootleg" website because there had been some vague mention of it already on this board.
If they miss the May 24th issue date then I'll just have to cool my jets for awhile yet. -IcyCalm

Yo! Hopefully this is a good sign, if inaccurate. Had my sister over today to eat non-nutritious things and start watching my Pretender DVDs -- yay!!
Not much more of an insert with the set than an advertisement for other Fox TV DVDs, and no, there was no photo of RS (just a bunch of TV shows I won't be wasting money on). BUT....on the back, as I just saw (when I picked it up again to pitch it), it says in print:
Coming soon to DVD...Remington Steele Season 1 (April)
Now, their date may be off, but surely if Fox is putting this out in print, it shouldn't be too far off...should it?

Yeah that advertising evidently went in before the date change but I'm not doubting it will be released. If they've already done the restoring then they've done the most expensive part and they're not going to not release the set.
And according to that one interview with PB he'd recently been watching some of them because of the DVD release (maybe adding some commentary/interview for the extras) so they're coming it's just a matter of when not if.

You know, I'd really hate to be within ear shot of SZ when she gets a load of the cover of the DVD. From TV Shows on DVD Remington Steele - First Look At Cover Art For Season 1! Posted by David Lambert 4/02/2005 We've gotten ahold of what is certain to be your very first look at the box for Remington Steele - Season 1 DVD Set! A new release date hasn't been formally announced, but you probably recall our news a few weeks ago that this was delayed from May 24th to sometime in July. Audio commentaries and featurettes are reported to be included in this 4-disc set, which was initially planned for $39.98 (but the price and content is subject to change). For that matter, this cover art is subject to change as well, but it did come to use directly from Fox Home Entertainment. As you can see, they've decided to play up the Pierce Brosnan-as-007 angle both with the wording and the image they choose. As much as Gord and I both enjoy him in both roles, don't forget that this nifty TV series also starred a delightful Stephanie Zimbalist. You would never know it from this, though: Hopefully Stephanie gets talked up on the back of the box! Stay tuned, and we'll bring you final details of this release, including any updates to the art or any of the contents and pricing, just as soon as Fox makes it available to the press or retailers. ======================================== The cover art might change but the real change I want is at least 6 and not 4 DVDs for better quality, especially if they're giving extras. Oh and the before he was Bond line... CHEESY. Everyone knows who he was Bond and the pic with the tux is more than enough. Ace

I received the notice in my e-mail from tvshowsondvd.com, and I must say, I'm disappointed in the "Before he was Bond" line, too, and think Stephanie should be on that cover, too, in an elegant gown from the first season. I really hate the way she's overlooked. So that's about 23 shows on 4 disks, right? Plus extras? Hmmmmm........ Die Another Day is a two dvd set. Something's not right. They'd better not cut anything from the episodes or they'll hear from me.

They wouldn't cut anything out of the episodes and they can easily fit 6 episodes on each disc. Some series have done that. But most have 4 one hour episodes per disc, at least the better quality do. They can fit 6 hours hours on disc especially with the new dual layer discs but the video quality is lesser. But with that and featutettes and audio commentary it's a squeeze. Considering that the series was done on film and not tape and had a rather lush look it's pity if it doesn't get a higher grade video transfer.

well, it certainly wouldn't have hurt to put SZ on the cover also. i don't think that without her contribution RS would have become what it is... Oh and the before he was Bond line... CHEESY. Everyone knows who he was Bond and the pic with the tux is more than enough. i agree, that line really IS cheesy - as if they'd fear that without this plump "james bond"-tie-in it wouldn't sell...tsk,tsk... by the way, does anyone know if it's planned to release this collection as region 2-DVDs also?

Okay, everybody got here before I did, so all I can do is agree. That cover art is too Bond and a slap in the face to Stephanie Zimbalist. Let's hope it's not the final decision on how it will come out. I know some of you aren't as fond of SZ, but really - that's too much, leaving her out altogether. cg

Well the photo is very striking (and very Steele) and the colors and print work very well but there's no real reason they couldn't have snuck a little SZ in their in some smaller couple photo and put her name on the cover. Though I'm sure she will be on the back. I gather this is done to catch the eye of all those who havem't watched the show, all those that did will buy it anyway.
It could be much worse, like those Australia/Asia "Noble House" DVD's with the large print across the cover -- "Her Love Was Not Enough" -- what the hell?

They're not really doing this, are they? (And "before he was Bond" -- agreed, Velveeta to the max, and far too obvious a marketing ploy.) Someone at Fox is taking the "unidentified woman" thing a bit too far. I can only quote Fielding Mellish (from Take the Money and Run) "It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham." Not a good way to put one's best foot forward with the show's fan base -- and not a very high opinion of Bond fans, either, as if they haven't a clue without seeing the "B" word. Why don't they hand Steele a Walther while they're at it?

SZ aside, the more I look at the cover art the less it does for me. Tux <check> Pose <check> But to cut off the head just above those expressive eyebrows?
Wasn't the show on some very deep level about Mr. Steele's hair? LOL!
Squeezing everything on to four discs (quality be damned), Steele not quite fitting in the frame? Anyone see a theme here? We're being downsized, and it's not looking pretty, eh?
