For those who like some film sequences combined with Korean pop/rock music ... there's a new little music video on the official Korean site. It's the third one on the right at the very bottom of the site in Dynamic Video www.thebutterfly.co.kr/main.html Edit: There seems to be something like youtube in Korea. So you don't have to spend the huge loading time anymore ... video.aol.com/video-detail/--/3841332523

Great find -- now if only I could figure out where it is -- aha as you said third one on the bottom (Korean Text). It's called "Untouchable"
The Korean Website is really cool.

Loading takes quite a time, but I think it's worth it. Putting a 'traileresque' video there is an interesting idea ... good distribution. I totally agree that this is a cool site. A really nice work. The music and the dark colours create a kind of atmosphere there. A bit sad. But good. I like it. If there's been only a little bit of these efforts in the 'big countries'.

Agreed, it would have been nice if this effort had been across the board. Though Korea is really a very large market, one of the biggest. I hope all this attention means the film finally gets a wide release somewhere. Ace

I'm right back from Amsterdam. Saw BOAW there last Thursday and Friday. I wasn't overwhelmed but I liked it very much. I liked it even more after having watched it the second time when one could appreciate the nuances in the acting much more because you knew ... and have had the time to think about it from the first viewing. PB played that character so well. I loved it! They should have given him and his character a little bit more screen time for development - I felt like it was more a GB- or MB-movie than his one. Only a few minutes more in the last part. What a scene, however! If you have the chance to see it on the big screen in Europe or elsewhere, then try to catch it. I think it's worth it. There were these big close-ups and the audience's 'Oh's and 'Ah's at certain points - an atmosphere you simply can't get from watching it on TV or DVD. Absolutely not to imagine with any (commercial) interruptions, because the pace isn't really high, it's rather slowly developing after the first 'shock' of PB's entering. Though it seemed the movie got the audience's attention quite well - especially on Friday night when most of the seat rows were full of people and there was quiet tension until the very end. Not much of publicity in the theatre though - also a limited release in the Netherlands. But I'm thankful. What about Germany, Kollegen?! No one seems to know nothing. I think if the region2-DVD is out once (in late Dec. 2007 for the Scandinavian area), it won't make much sense to the other distributors to release it on the big screen anymore. Maybe that's the reason why France has changed the release date to a very early January release. Andrea (since I know that ahm is already the abbreviation for the Amsterdam Historical Museum www.ahm.nl)

Andrea, for all the effort you've gone to gathering info on the film, not to mention going to Amsterdam to see it, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm jealous though I didn't get to see it on the big screen though the DVD will be a vast improvement over the butchered TV experience. If you'd like to discuss the film in more depth, there's the BOAW Spoiler topic. I had the same general impressions, not nearly enough screen time for Pierce but the ending makes it all worthwhile and really makes the film. Knowing the ending also made me appreciate the rest of the film and the entirety of the performance more. Ace

I'm afraid we won't get it in Germany, there is too much silence. When France finally announced a release date I thought we would hear something from Germany soon ... WAS there anything so far??? I simply HAD to see it, because that Tom Ryan character seemed so interesting to me www.cine21.com/Movies/Mov_Movie/movie_detail.php?s=media&id=19499&pid=170835 PB as a bad guy ... looking that strong and multi-layered from the trailer - I couldn't wait. So I planned a little Amsterdam holiday trip around the Dutch release date, with lots of museums + galleries + concerts + BOAW. Amsterdam was great, a great city. I wish you all could go there for a visit. And the movie. Andrea

I am afraid that you are right about this movie ever beeing screened in Germany. Was "The Matador", by the way? I cannot remember having seen any advertisements Amsterdam is too far away, Austria would be more convenient But I guess Amsterdam was worth the trip, it's a very nice city.

Easy to miss, sadly, because I don't remember seeing a lot of publicity, even when specifically looking for it.

Yeah, great looking boots. Nice pic too from TearsofPearl. A while ago, I got production notes and the WHOLE summary of the film from Maple Pictures for this film. The production notes are about a year old, it was written last fall I think cause Butler was still filming PS I Love You. Anyways, it still a fairly decent and it was nice of MP to forward them to me. I'm still up in the air about posting the entire summary, could still ruin the movie cause it's very spoilery. BoaW/Shattered Cast and Crew SynopsisAnd I never did get a chance to talk about meeting Mike Barker and Bill Morrissey in Vancouver, I was quite suprised to see them at the viewing at VIFF. They were an absolute riot to listen too, the audience during the viewings were fun, they laughed and groaned in a few scenes. This is what I shared elsewhere and I feel bad cause I never got a chance to write things down after VIFF because my PC broke and I got sick after coming back from there. Things were kinda crazy here for a bit. Anyways: I was suprised Mike Barker and Bill Morrissey were also at the viewing. They were absolutely great to listen too and they answered questions from the audience and met with people afterwards. When I spoke with them, they had just finished doing the commentary for the movie a day or so before and said what type of features were going to be on film. Pretty much what Fangoria had wrote in their article. I did ask if there was going to be a gag reel but they both said they had no say on what type of features were going to be on the DVD, distributors do that. There were a few questions about Gerry from the audience, I don't remember what they were but I'm pretty sure someone wrote about them at GB.net, haven't checked. They spoke on how the majority of the film was made in Vancouver and all the Chicago shots were done in a few days span. Mike said that all the aerial shots were done in about a hour span because the fog had finally lifted in Chicago. There were some questions about the script, Bill said it didn't take too long to write the script and what was written and used was the original script and it was the first draft. Both Bill and Mike spoke on the process of getting the script to the filming stage and how it went through various stages to get greenlit to being used. There was also a short discussion on which locations were used in Vancouver, one of the places they talked a little on was the Restaurant scene, it was filmed in a fairly known pub. They also spoke on the on-set accident of Pierce and Gerry and how they were both hurt. (I really hope Mike and Bill talk about this incident on the DVD commentary, after hearing that story made alot of sense on how that scene played out.) Also discussed was how fast this film was made because it was just an indie film, Mike said that once Pierce came on board with Irish Dreamtime, things fell into order extremely quick. They spoke on how this was a Canadian/UK production and how this was a Canadian film. (It was entered in for Viewers Choice for Canadian film at VIFF) The most obvious question was asked, why the title change. Both Mike and Bill weren't too happy with the change, but given what they had to decide on, understandable why Shattered was chosen. They did talk how this title was used before and will be again for another film next year. Heh, one of the film title names given was 'Deadly Affair'. hehehe. Anyways, more stuff was asked and I can't remember exactly what now. Nicholas Lea (Krycek!) was there at the Friday viewing. I did overhear how one of his scenes didn't make the cut into the movie. I did ask them about the length of the film, that the time length were varied, both said it must have been a misprint cause what was shown at European Film Market is the same that's playing now. No changes. I'm really looking forward to the DVD now, Mike and Bill were fun to listen too and if their commentary is anything like their presentation at VIFF, definitely worth buying. [edit - cause I misnamed Maple Pictures]

Thanks for sharing your VIFF experience. Sounds like a fun time was had. I look forward to their commentary. I have the production notes up on my site but not the blow by blow story synopsis, that I can recall. You can post it in the BOAW/Shattered Spoilers topic if you'd like. Then anyone that reads it knows what they're in for.

They were fun to listen too, I think the commentary will be fun. And the production notes you have are more detailed but the ones that Maple Pictures sent are dated but decent. And what I received were a cast/crew synopsis. And I'll post the spoilery stuff in the other thread.

There are surpisingly quite a few high profile films coming out on DVD on X-Mas Day. Maybe it's like the day is for films - busy. Staten Island Live: DVD clipsby Richard T. Ryan Thursday December 20, 2007, 1:00 AM Home entertainment critic Richard T. Ryan recaps next week's hottest new releases. The following motion pictures will be available on home video on Tuesday, except for Rush Hour 3, which will be available on Sunday. "Shattered," Lionsgate Home Entertainment, 95 minutes, Rated R for some language and violence -- Abby (Maria Bello) and Neil (Gerard Butler) appear to have the perfect life. They are successful, live in a beautiful home and have a daughter they adore. One day, their world is turned upside down when Tom Ryan (Pierce Brosnan) suddenly pops up in the rear seat of their car holding a gun and announces "I have your child." Ryan then gives them tasks to perform, each of which undercuts their lifestyle a little further. It's a neat little thriller with an ending that you won't see coming.

DVD File has a review up. The Deleted and Alternate scenes are very minimal considering there were supposedly about 20 minutes cut from the first screened version. Supplements: What Goodies Are There? An audio commentary by director Mike Barker and writer and co-producer William Morrissey is included. Both bounce off each other and what is on screen very well. The two note quite a bit of the technical and the surprisingly helpful support of Icon Productions and Infinity Features. The filmmaker’s absolute first choice for casting was Maria Bello. They said that they got to make the film they wanted. Next up is the featurette Breaking Apart the Wheel (17:56). Rife with spoilers, make sure you see this only after you watch the film; the cast and filmmakers discuss the entire story. Many scenes from the film pad this featurette. Following that is the featurette Hello Villain (4:03). Interviews discuss the Tom Ryan character and how Pierce Brosnan effected this part based on his history of playing James Bond. Deleted scenes include The Bracelet Scene (0:43) and The Train Station (1:00). Both are a little interesting but really don’t move the plot along. Alternate scenes include Alternate Intro (2:50, with the film's original title, Butterfly on a Wheel), Tom’s Son (1:35), and Police Proceedures (0:45) also including a convenient Play All option. The Alternate Intro is innocuous; either intro, though slightly different, probably would not have mattered to an audience. The other two are slightly extended scenes with Tom’s Son being notably more interesting than what was left in the film.

The review's got some good points. Though ... I couldn't agree with the statements about Butlers muscles and his appearance beeing that much stronger than PB's. But yes, you're right. The DVD extras seem all in all rather little. But it's better than no goodies at all like on scanbox' region 2 DVD. Sad that we won't get much more information on Tom's backround. Anyway... I'm looking forward to the "son-scene". Maybe we'll get to see the handshake between Matt and Neill that's on the production photo. Amazon says the DVD will be here on Jan. 11th I'll watch with a friend who's got a code-free player. Hope it will work. Tomorrow a Merry Christmas for everyone out there! Andrea
