Reasonable for A&E would be $70 and not $110. Go to Amazon.com and type in A&E Home Video into their DVD search and you'll see what they charge for series sets from Dr Quinn Medicine Woman to Homicide (prices do go down with earlier sets though). Then type in FOX and see the huge difference.
Maybe A&E only pick up certain series that need are more expensive, or they produce those they think won't appeal to a more mass audience, or it's just the way they figure they'll make the most money, or they think it's an actual fair price and Fox and others are just too low to make enough profit. But it's a pattern.

Noticed on "Deep Discount" website that they are still selling DQMW seasons for $41, $67, and even higher. Yikes!!

If you look those are the older ones, series one and three etc that have been out for a couple of years. The latest one in selling for $109 on Amazon! EEK! And it's Dr Quinn Medicine Woman ... I mean really. Ace

Oh good grief. That sounds expensive, and I thought only Columbia House was in the rip off racket. I remember seeing some prices in the A&E catalogue sometime back and thought they were a bit steep. I think two episodes at $20 a pop is outrageous compared to what TV series are going for today. It would be wonderful if we could finally get our beloved series in its entirety. We do have to remember that RS is hour shows, so comparing prices to half-hour comedy series isn't an equal comparison. Most of the sets I saw at Best Buy were in the under $50 range for each season, but I think that was half-hour comedies. My daughter bought the first season of "The Monkees" on DVD for about $70, and that was high. Don't think they released the second season yet.

Isn't it funny that the series aren't even out yet and we're already complaining about the price?

Well now we can complain about the delay. TV Shows on DVD: Site News - Fox Exec Updates Us On Chat NewsPosted by David Lambert 7/17/2004 Back in January, Fox Home Entertainment's Senior Vice President of Marketing, Mr. Peter Staddon, was generous with his time and agreed to be the star attraction at an online chat hosted by the Home Theater Forum website. Within a couple of days, TVShowsOnDVD posted our own recap of the TV-on-DVD news which came out of that question-and-answer session. And there was quite a bit of it! Since then, several of the seedlings that Staddon spoke of are about to bear fruit: Garfield & Friends has a disc of specials recently out, a box set of episodes about to hit in a couple of weeks, and a new disc of holiday specials was just unveiled this past few days. Millenium arrives this coming Tuesday, and Harsh Realm is about a month behind it. Lost In Space has continued with the announcement of a split-season release for Season 2, despite lower-than-expected sales for the first season. The fact that Staddon has moved forward with the release in a different way just shows his dedication, and Fox's, to continue to find methods of bringing their product to market. Good show! TVShowsOnDVD had wondered about some of the other shows that were discussed at the time, and even a few that weren't discussed (but we've had a number of reader inquiries about). So site owner Gord Lacey took the time recently to ask Staddon for a "six-month follow-up" to the chat, and he was happy to oblige. One of the first chat items that came up last January was Remington Steele. As we reported, Staddon commented that "One of the guys in the office has been pestering us for six months straight to release (Remington)", and went on to say that "...we will be releasing it probably later this year. I hope you'll like it when we are done." Six months later, it looks like Staddon's office-mate will continue to bug him about this for a while yet: Gord was told that this release has been pushed back on to the 2005 schedule. To which I say, "Darn it!" But, I'm happy that it's in-the-works at all, so I'll be patient! ====================================== So the question is early 2005 or late 2005 when they're probably hoping to tie it into the next Bond film if PB's in it. *sigh* Ace

Those Bozos should have released it during the big Bond anniversary hoopla when Die Another Day was released. Hollywood is run by dorks, free and clear, no doubt about it. If I were President, first thing I'd do is get someone to release RS, the complete series, on DVD. THEN I'd worry about inflation, joblessness, the economy, the weather, the state of the world, etc. First things first, IMO. Who wants to vote for me? I could really give the second George Bush from Texas and the second JFK from Massachusetts something to worry about -- a real run for their money -- based on the RS issue alone.

From the Sept 10th issue of Entertainment Weekly in an article on DVDs:
WE' RE DYIN' FOR ... REMINGTON STEELE
"Long before he was assuming identities and seducing gorgeous women as super-suave spy James Bond, Pierce Brosnan was, well, assuming identities and seducing gorgeous women as super-suave "detective" Remington Steele. For four glorious seasons on NBC, Brosnan's con artist-turned-investigator brought dandyism back into vogue. Nattily attired and generous with arcane film factoids, the pseudo-sleuth coasted on the diligence of his colleague (Stephanie Zimbalist) but oozed such charm that she - and audiences - adored him anyway. Now that Brosnan’s had his fill of martinis and international mayhem, why isn't the show that jump-started it all on DVD? Fox which holds Remington's rights says the show is "on its radar", but we're Steele waiting...."

Gentlemen, Fox Home Video's main man for DVD development, Sr. VP Peter Staddon, was generous enough to spend more than 2 hours January 13, 2004 at an online chat on tvshowsondvd.com. He stated that Remington Steele would be realeased some time late in 2004. In a follow up interview later in the year the release date was postponed to "some time during 2005." Now I read on the internet that there are no plans to release this program to dvd. Please let your corporate offices know that there is a lot of interest in this show being released to dvd. I have been saving up so I can purchase the entire set when it becomes available. Thank you,

I'm Dreaming Of A DVD Xmas by Rebecca Salek DVDs are as collectable as books (and sometimes cheaper) and usually go over better than ties and sweaters! With that in mind, we decided to find out what stuff the Tarts would love to see on DVD but which the TV/movie companies have been slow to release. "With the holidays fast approaching, what are some cartoons, TV series, animated features and movies that you would like to see on DVD? " If you have a question you'd like the Tarts to answer, send it to rebecca@sequentialtart.com and we'll try to answer it in a future issue. Remington Steele, the show that launched Pierce Brosnan's career, is also long past due on DVD. Brosnan definitely plays second fiddle to Stephanie Zimbalist's Laura Holt, as a female private eye who pretends to have a male boss to get more clients. Brosnan uncovers the con, and steps into the role of the fictional Remington Steele. Much banter ensues, including Steele's habit of rattling off the producers, stars and makers of classic Hollywood films. After this show was cancelled, one of the writers went onto to create a little show called Moonlighting. The first season of RS, with James Read's Murphy, also struck me as the best, but it's been too long since I've seen it to know for sure. Again, I can't imagine why someone's not capitalizing on Brosnan's current success by not releasing this smart show on DVD. Read the complete article
