From the Playboy Magazine site: Upcoming December issuePierce Brosnan -- In the Matador, the ex-Bond continues his transition from black tie to dark comedy. In a Playboy Interview by Stephen Rebello, Brosnan speaks frankly about being severed from 007 and nominates a new Bond and a new Bond Girl. [not sure he needs to do the last anymore. heh] For the embarassment of buying this mag, this better have good photos -- of Pierce!

Canadian magazine Inside Entertainment's Oct Issue has a Toronto Film Fest roundup. Included is this photo of Pierce. (linked from as the photo says Ebay) I don't know if there's any article attached in the magazine.

Just thought I would let y'all know that there is an article/review of The Matador in this months GQ (US edition with Orlando Bloom on cover). It's not an interview with Pierce or an article on him, nor does it include much in the way of photos, but it's a pretty lengthy/detailed review/article on the film, so it's worth checking out if you are interested in the movie. I don't actually have a copy of it, otherwise I would have scanned it in for you, but maybe somebody else can get it and share it with everyone.

Thanks. I didn't know what issue that came from. www.RichardShepard.com had the GQ review up on their site in the Matador Reviews section. I copy and pasted it and put it up on the review section of my site. But I don't know if it was the article/recivew in it's entirety. Ace

There's a wonderful Q&A with Pierce in November's issue of Travel & Leisure. The text is up on their site and I don't know if they have new photos in the magazine that aren't on the site. here's the Q&A. Fast Talk: Pierce BrosnanCourtesy Pierce Brosnan The name Pierce Brosnan may bring to mind images of a jet-setting James Bond in a tuxedo sipping a martini, but for his role in this month’s Matador—a traveling hit man facing a midlife crisis while tracking targets from Mexico City to Budapest—the actor trades martinis for margaritas and private jets for public transport. Travel + Leisure caught up with Brosnan to find out what prompts an Irishman to relocate to Hawaii and why a ukulele makes a great carry-on. by Jennifer V. Cole You spend a lot of time in Hawaii. What drew you to the islands? It’s like Ireland with the heat on. I love the culture, the landscape, the blue, blue water. You wake up in the morning and go fishing or sailing—or have a coffee on the beach. I paint and my wife gardens. It’s a beautiful place to watch our boys grow up. Do you paint a lot on the road? My first career was as a commercial artist, and I’ve started plein-air painting—I travel with a little oil set. While filming The Matador in Mexico City, I set up a small studio at the hotel and did a self-portrait of my character Julian, a mustachioed vulgarian with a wonderful sense of humanity. This was your first trip to Mexico City. Did you enjoy it? Quite frankly, the city has gotten a very bad rap. Even though we traveled with bodyguards—which was a giant pain in my neck—I still had chances to get out with the people, and thought they were absolutely magnificent. Yes, there’s pollution. Yes, you should be careful when going into certain neighborhoods—just as in any large city. But connecting with the passion of Mexico in the Catholic churches, eating at local restaurants, and seeing firsthand the works of Rivera, Kahlo, and Siqueiros made it a rich experience. Much of the movie is spent in the bar at the Camino Real. What makes a great bar? It has to have that sense of camaraderie. I grew up stealing sips of Guinness from my uncles’ pints at pubs in Ireland. You can have a little bar on the beach with just a wooden plank and beaten up old logs and it can be the most amazing bar in the world, and then you can have an overly dressed stuffy bar that just doesn’t work. The people are what make it special. What’s always in your carry-on? I bring my laptop, and I’ve recently taken up the ukulele. It’s the most humorous, charming instrument. It’s completely portable, and you can learn to play it in about 20 minutes. I also carry my family photos, which I keep in silver frames. As soon as I get into my hotel, I unwrap them and set them up on the desk. Do you have any favorite hotels? The Hassler in Rome and the Ritz in Paris. I just love the romance, grandeur, and place in history of those hotels. They are the epicenters of the cities they inhabit. It’s as if they’re filled with the dreams of everyone who has walked through them. What was the most memorable meal you’ve had while traveling? I had one of the best lunches on the back of a boat in Panama with a group of friends while filming the Tailor of Panama. The boat wasn’t fancy, but it was big and very handsome and it had an old frying kettle at the back. We opened several bottles of wine and cooked up a feast of calamari and shrimp and fish—all straight from the sea—for a wonderful meal. But I still love the down-home, wholesome food of my native Ireland: Irish salmon, vegetables, and lots of mashed potatoes. I love my spuds. Bond is known for his gadgets; would you call yourself a technophile? I abhor gadgets. I had a BlackBerry, or a blueberry, or whatever you call the darn thing for half a day and then I gave it to my secretary. I do send e-mail, but I prefer to write in longhand. And I’m a sucker for beautiful fountain pens. Are you ever able to “go local” and remain incognito? In Hawaii, people recognize me and I greet them as they greet me. I enjoy my life and the bit of fame that I have. It has enabled me to travel far and wide, and to enjoy every level of society. Whether you’re going to Panama City or Rajasthan or Nairobi or Rome, it’s about packing the suitcase and going off and sharing experiences with a bunch of great new people. Thanks for the heads up Ace! I just ran out and grabbed it used for a buck at Half Priced Books. Barnes and Nobles carries it as well, but I'm too cheap to pay full price. The photo must have been strictly for internet use as there isn't a photo with the article, just a small cartoonish drawing of Pierce. The article is on page 38 for those of you that want to run out and take a look. I'll go ahead and email you a scan of it Ace, assuming you haven't already gotten yourself a copy.

I forgot to mention that the printed copy in the actual magazine is only part of the interview that they have online. The article in the magazine ends with "Read the full interview, and a list of Pierce Brosnan's favorite art museums around the world, at www.travelandleisure.com/fasttalk" How weird can you get?!

There is a new People SPECIALS softcover book for sale at the magazine stands called "I Do! The Great Celebrity Weddings," which features Pierce and Keely's wedding. Page 60 features them and includes 2 photos and a write-up, page 74 has a photo of Keely holding her bouquet of lilies of the valley, and on page 127 there's a brief mention of their FIRST DANCE being "If I Should Fall Behind" by Bruce Springsteen.

Aha! So he does use a computer. The stuff about the Ukulele is so funny! That he would take along family pictures in silver frames is soo sweet and so like him. I love this interview!

Aha! So he does use a computer. Of course he uses a laptop. It's much easier to lean on a closed laptop than an airplane table. :-D OK...that was cruel, but then again, Pierce probably has one of those hard body laptops that can take a beating but keep on ticking. Love...B

Has anyone got ahold of the December Playboy issue yet? I went looking which was embarassing. It wouldn't have been embarrassing actually quickly spotting a copy of the issue and buying it -- but it was most definitely embarassing having to scan the skin racks looking for five minutes in futility! Oh I saw the November GQ that has the Matador review in it. I loved the drawing from the film and Ellen if you still have that I'd love the scan or that and the review. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a magazine with Orlando Bloom on the cover -- the magazine might think I want more of the same. Heh -- I just realized I find it easier to buy a Playboy than an Orlando Bloom cover.

I wish I could be of assistance Ace, but I was just too cheap to actually buy the magazine for full price and I haven't found it used yet. I don't have anything against Orlando myself (in fact I think he's pretty cute), but the fact that he is on the cover may be why I can't find it used. All the Orlando fans are grabbing them as fast as they come in. Either that or it's still too new and nobody has given their copy up yet. I'll keep looking though.

The Playboy web site now lists it as "this month's issue," so I'd expect it to hit the stands very soon! Yay! From the preview on Commanderbond.net, it looks like Pierce wasn't holding anything back. LOL! I can't wait to read it. Like you, I'm not looking forward to the embarrassment of having to ask for it though.

I don't mind asking for or getting Playboy -- the articles actually are good. The cover for this issue is also rather nice -- of Marilyn Monroe. It's just having to look through all the other mags it's stacked amongst that's a tad unnerving. I must admit I always get a kick out of PB's interviews in adult male skewing magazines -- they're usually no holds bar, frank and very funny. Ace
