I just got news that Stephanie will be in New Orleans again for the Tennessee Williams Fest. I'm so excited! I'm going to be there, too, for sure - no matter what. The dates for the festival are March 30-April 2, 2006. I'm going to try to make arrangements to meet with her. Keep those fingers crossed.

That's fantastic news1 I am glad to hear that:
1) The festival is going on. 2) You have the means to be there Myrtle. 3) Stephanie will be there
Who knows...I happen to know a guy who did very well in "Red Devil Battery Sign" and given that this could be a big fundraiser for the city...perhaps he could be persuaded to at least come back and see Stephanie as she performs.
Love...B

There's nothing new, I thought I'd just post the link to Tennessee Williams Festival page. It mentions SZ, though it's not clear whether she'll make an apearance or will only be interviewed. But at least it confirms she'll be there. I'm sure they'll have more information later. Good luck, Myrtle!

I heard back a while ago about Stephanie's participation at the Festival this year, and I just got an e-mail outlining all the festival events. Here's the link to the site: www.tennesseewilliams.net/schedule-day.htmlStephanie will participate in a panel discussion on Friday afternoon at 1PM. Then, and here's the exciting part, she'll have her own little show, Tete-a-Tete With Stephanie on Sunday afternoon at 4PM (opposite the famous screaming match). No screaming for this chick this year. I'll be with Stephanie. And I'm bringing a few cameras with me. Just one will not do. And maybe a recorder, too.

Myrtle,
We'll look forward to your report. I hope that the festival has great attendance. I hear that the merchants in the Quarter are really hurting for business. Any one here besides me that would love to see Stephanie and Pierce in a revival of The Night Of The Iguana?

SZ did play the Kerr role in a production in LA a couple of years ago though, if I recall correctly. Night Of The Iguana though is a play that always gives me the creeps and the film with Burton, Gardner and Kerr is one that I find overly melodramatic, unsavory (and not in a fun way) and almost embarassing to watch (in terms of the characters), so it's not high up on my lists of wants. Now if they're going to remake a Burton film Albee's Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf -- yes it's also seedy and the characters are also pathetic but I find it entertaining in it's snappy language and biting cruelty. That and I can just hear this exchange: Martha: Hey! George: Hark! Jungle sounds. Martha: Hey! George: Animal noises. I also think it might be fun to see SZ not play someone who's crass and not bottoned up and she's shown as Laura she has the head blinding screech for it when she wants. Ace

Ace,
I like your idea of PB and SZ as the snarky George and Martha in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolfe. Another play that I think they would be really splendid in is James Goldman's A Lion In Winter. And in a bit of nepotism that would make the Remington Steele crew proud, Sean Brosnan could be cast as one of the pair's viperlike offspring. Having now finished viewing the first two seasons of RS on DVD, the thing that I had forgotten about the two leads is how comedically gifted they both are. It really would be wonderful to see them in a vehicle that would tap into that woefully underutilized talent again.

Well after his sublime turn in The Matador I don't think Pierce's comedic talent could be considered untapped, though it's as much a character piece as it is a black comedy.
Lion In Winter is just a great play -- full stop -- yet even though it's had a recent TV remake I'm not sure I'll ever be able to accept anyone but O'Toole and Hepburn in those roles.

Well, I'm making my plans to see Stephanie next week. I'm going to attend the opening night festivities. I hope she'll attend, too. On Friday, I'll attend the panel discussion and have to rush to Baton Rouge right after. My daughter wants to see Peter Noone there. Then on Sunday, I'll be going to Tete-a-Tete with Stephanie and on to the Tea with Tennessee a bit later. It should be fun. I just hope I can find a cheap place to park in the French Quarter on three separate days! I'll definitely make an effort to have a conversation with her.

I remember once throwing out the possibility of the SMA starring in the same vehicle when I got off on a tangent about director Mike Nichols, to wit (from an old thread):
Now that Ace has proposed SZ in the Taylor role I can't say that it wouldn't be loads of fun seeing them both go on that kind of theatrical bender -- but you know how I feel about reunions. <wink>.
SZ playing such a blowsy, coarse-grained character really might make people sit up and take notice, in the way that many critics did of PB in "The Matador." She does have one disadvantage. Though she's not as thin as she was in RS she's still a bit too Hepburnesque for the Martha role, if you go by the text. Elizabeth Taylor was physically perfect for it, with her thickening figure. There's all that pagan symbolism in the play, etc., suggestive of Martha being like an over-ripe fertility goddess.
With SZ you'd still have that great exchange that Ace just quoted, but you would have to jettison George's line, "I thought you'd sort of get excited, sort of heave and pant and come running at me, your melons bobbling."
Talents aside, SZ never has had very large melons...

Or maybe something like these.....(I love the Blackadder series, LOL!) img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/qafmmm/l12.jpg(Sorry it won't allow me to copy the photo -- just the link.) Speaking of lost roles, well, at least the trailer for The Da Vinci Code looks as jaw droppingly awful as the book. Though PB would be missing out on a lot of lovely money. Kathleen T. recently starred in a "Woolf" revival, if I'm not mistaken. Haven't seen reviews but she would seem to be a perfect fit, especially vocally.

;D ;D ;D ;D Those might be a tad immodest. And yes Blackadder is brilliant whacko fun. Hah! That explains why I could see and hear her so tangibly! She was and was nominated for a Tony

Myrtle,
I hope that you'll really enjoy the festival and will look forward to your report. The synopsis of the session on Tete-a-Tete with Stephanie indicates that she's interested in playing Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire. It would be interesting to see who she'd pick as her Stanley if she had her choice.
Also, would you let us know how the quarter and for that matter, New Orleans, is doing in its ongoing efforts to recover from the devastation left by Katrina?
