Okay, I'll start it, but I'm not the one who should, because I haven't seen all of them in forever. I suppose I could set up a poll, but considering how many people have to choose from, we'll just try a basic: What are your favorite top ten Remington Steele episodes? Not having an episode list in front of me, I'm going to beg off from a 1 - 10 ranking and just list the top ones that come to mind, which may not even be ten. (You all know I just can't seem to keep episode titles in my head!) Then I'll come back and adjust it later. Vintage Steele Red Holt Sensitive Steele Away with Me Threads (mostly for the Laura "dying" scene) Sting of SteeleThat will have to do for now, until I have a chance to look through some tapes and lists. Next voter! cg Oh, wait -- um, darn it -- the one where they go to Ireland and think they're going to meet his father. And even though most people don't like Season 5, I loved the "shell game" at the end with the coffins, and Daniel getting buried with honors.

Is Steele Searching the one in Ireland? cg

No, it's the one in England. The two, actually - it's a two-parter. The one in Ireland is Steele Your Heart Away. Are we counting two-hour episodes as one episode or as two? Not that I have time to filter out 84 hours that I liked the least. I can participate in the discussion, though.

See, that's why I'm no good at this. Boy, is those DVDs are affordable....!! (and really happen) Yes, naming them all is kind of missing the point. imho, two-parters count as one, because it's one chunk (?) of story line, but hey, nothing to be inflexible about. cg

OK, as suggested by Yuliya I'll discuss more until someone feels like joining my monologue. or rather I have another idea. Pick an epside from my list that you're surprised to see I rank so highly and pick one that's you're surprised I didn't rank at all or lower.
For that I need to put them in some kind of order and limit it to 20, so here goes:
1. Steele Trying 2. Beg, Borrow or Steele 3. Have I Got A Steele For You 4. Steele My Heart Away 5. Steele Away With Me 6. Steele At It 7. Sensitive Steele 8. Red Holt Steele 9. Thou Shalt Not Steele 10. Hearts of Steele
11. Forged Steele 12. Steele of Approval 13. A Good Night's Steele 14. Premium Steele 15. License to Steele 16. Love Among the Steele 17. Steele Dreams 18. To Stop a Steele 19. Vintage Steele 20. Now You Steele it, Now You Don't
Oh that's it... today.

Okay, how come Vintage doesn't rate any hgher? It's funny; we learn revealing things about Laura's background; it's got a great kiss....

I think you answered your question. We learn alot about Laura. That's all well and good but it means the episode is alot about Laura and that means less about Steele. More to the point it's alot about Laura's nebbishy nerdy ex. and while it reveals stuff about Laura it reveals stuff I've never ever bought as being in character. Laura doing a fan dance in front of her boyfriend's colleagues and boss, on top of a bar, in Mexico? Oh please. I know it was put in to spice her up but nothing else revealed about her past really fits in with wild unihibited Laura. And frankly who could blame her boyfriend for leaving after that... I mean TACKY and TRASHY! I can't conceived of Laura being so drunk as to ever think that would be a good idea. My guess is she did it to drive Wilson away so she wouldn't have to dump him outright. Now that would have been a much more interesting spin. Instead we get weak Wilson leaving poor unihibitated Laura causing her to close up and not trust men like Mr Steele. Bah! Still it rates for all the Abbott of Costello jokes, for the horse named after the dead father, for the kiss, and for the fine fine homage to The Trouble With Harry. Ace

That's right, that was the only episode that called for the suspension of disbelief. Interesting possible interpretation. I can see your point of view, but I think Laura did have that side to her, and I don't think she needed to be drunk to let go. She just didn't know how, most of the time. All of the above! And to think I thought I was the only one who loved "the Abbott of Costello?" line. ;D cg

Suspension of disbelief as concerns plot is far far easier for me than character, especially when character development is the main point of the episode.
Wild and uninhibited and letting go is one thing that as described was just skeezy. She stripped naked for these guys except for small fans. I mean UGH. Those guys were also rather icky. Yes there were small glimpses of a Laura that liked to take risks, and of course she did otherwise she wouldn't be a detective, but to be that physically really sexually out on the edge like that, and it wasn't even work related, nope I don't buy it.
Then again this is the woman that actually slept with that slimy revolting Clay Pot er Prat er whatever so maybe she likes icky. Could expalin why it took her 4 1/2 years to settle for Mr Steele. ;D
LOVE The Abbot of Costello! The entire charades scene is just brilliant.

You mean like when Steele parasails (?) in behind the walls of Pepe's, but even though the line is cut, the rope stays taut all the way down? "Skeezy??" Are we back to the untranslatable word thread? Okay, okay, point taken. Perhaps the memory of the event was exaggerated with time? ;D ;D ;D I also like the original attempts at hiding the body while still in the winery. I suppose we could go way off into speculation about why one of the best kissing scenes is while they are both dressed as celibate males. ;D (Please, tell me nobody really wants to "analyze" that!) cg

Steele parasaling, that's not even plot related that's just crappy SFX! Skeezy... one of those great words that sounds like what it is. It requires no translation. ;D The extra hand bit in the winery scene... that's just great! As for the kissing scene I thought they were both kind turned on by the forbidden, or at least Laura was, Steele was always turned on. ;D ;D Ace

Hmmm...skanky + sleazy? That's quite the put-down! Tell you what, the next time your husband has a business dinner with his boss and co-workers jump up on the table or bar and do a dance wearing nothing but little fans and see what kind of reaction you get. ;D Ergo my contention Laura a) was drunk out of her mind b) did it really to get Wilson to leave her And most likely a combination of both. OK, I've been busy and you discussed away without me, so I won't quote the entire thread; I'll try to make it understandable without it for I'm a man who enjoys pretending to be a woman... Er... that is, I'm a woman who enjoys impossible challenges. First of all, skeezy to me sounds like a derivative from Skeezix - I've always liked when Bernice called him that. I liked the third hand episode in the vinery and the kiss in another vinery. I don't like the Abbott of Costello joke or the charades because both look kind of stupid to me. Besides, a) For somebody who's excellent at charades, Laura could do better b) For a Trapist monk, this guy knows how to play very well. c) They are allowed to talk - I've been to a Trapists monastery. (Oh, the wine they make... Never mind. ) And when they weren't allowed to talk, they carreid a pen and a piece of paper around because they needed to communicate with each other. That's why the restriction was lifted - it was faster to say, "Pass the pitchfork" than to try to explain that without talking. But that's besides the point. As for Laura dancing in Mexico to drive Wilson away - it might make more sense, but it's even more cruel. It's one thing when she was drunk and didn't think what she was doing, it's another thing when she deliberately embarrassed career-oriented Wilson in front of his superiors. I think I was suprised to see Trying on top of Ace's list - not because I don't like the episode but because I didn't expect to see a Season 3 episode crowning her favorites. But I'll think about that list a bit more.

Well, as a matter of fact, my husband is the boss, but is currently very short-staffed so it wouldn't be much of a crowd. I could, however, consider trying it at a meeting of the board of directors, or perhaps while he's meeting with some of the foundation people who fund not-for-profits. That should go over really well. Beyond that, how can one hope to counter someone who uses the word "ergo?" cg

I have been trying to join in this topic but the board keeps kicking me out.
I wonder why you did not include Stronger Than Steele and Diced Steele in you list. They are two of my favorite episodes.
I know most of the people who post on this board don't care for Steele in the Chips. I think it is cute. I love the scene where Steele and Laura are running toward the Auburn from Vericorp headquarters with the bad guys chasing them. I also like the scene with all the good guys stuffed into the Rabbit. I want the recipe for those cookies. No one would have to worry about economic consequences. I would just keep it to myself.
My least favorite is Steele Blue Yonder. I don't know what it is about that story but I just don't like it. My second least favorite is::ducks rotten tomatoes being thrown by other board members::Steele of Approval.
Well, I'll make another attempt to post this before the board kicks me out. I thought at first it was personal.

Amen to the above discussion of Vintage. I have nothing more to add. Personally, I would also rank Steele Trying among my top 20 because of this scheme Mr. Steele develops just to lure Laura away. The whole episode is very sweet and romantic. The only mind-boggling thing about it is why Laura still manages to resist him. I guess Red Hot Steele would make it in my top 3. The scene where Steele comforts Laura and tells her the story is very touching. And his being so supportive of her all through the episode, and then the ending with the piano...! She should have known by these gestures that he loves her.

Of course Red Holt Steele has some of the best all-time scenes, what with the Xenos story and then the piano. When y'all just start throwing out episode titles, I get lost. Can you at least give a one-sentence synopsis? cg
