Will Brosnan get a best actor nomination for his brilliant and very funny role he did in The Matador?
Is his performance really meet the standard for at least a nomination for Oscar in that category?

Dissapointinly, it's very doubtful. He's in the most competitive category. I could easily name 15-20 performances that could be honored in the Lead Actor category unlike say the Lead Actress category where it's heard to scrounge up 5. It's also a category that overwhelmingly skews to nominating dramatic performances. Just look at the Globes and who won in the Musical/Comedy category -- Phoneix for a performance that was dramatic. Even he joked that he didn't really belong in the category.

Too bad. Combining musical and comedy into one (Globe) category doesn't make much sense to me in the first place. But then again, I'm not an insider and haven't even seen the nominated films, so I'd better keep quiet.

I like the idea of splitting categories because comedic performances get little respect (even though most actors will tell you comedy is harder than drama) in awards. But the probem is Walk The Line is not a musical any more than Ray or Coal Miner's Daughter. They're dramatic biographies of musicians with a few musical perfromances. They're not The Producers, Moulin Rouge, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma etc. Ace

So we'll need three new categories: biopics, musical and comedy. Did you hear that Globes and Oscar people?

Anything as long as they give cerdit to those who deserve it, namely PB. I see they picked him as presenter as the SAG awards. That would be his second stint there in recent years, no? Can we now speculate that after presenting twice he'll be nominated next time? ;D
