Pierce Brosnan wins rights to domain namewww.kansas.com/mld/kansas/entertainment/6668694.htm Mon, Sep. 01, 2003 Associated Press GENEVA - James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has won control of the Internet name www.piercebrosnan.com in a ruling by a United Nations panel. Arbitrators from the World Intellectual Property Organization ordered the transfer of the domain name to the Irish actor, who had complained that it was being used illegally. The ruling said the registered owner of the name - Alberta Hot Rods, of Alberta, Canada - had no rights or interests in the name and was using it in bad faith. Brosnan's lawyers told the panel that the domain linked to another Web site, www.celebrity1000.com, which they said contained biographies of some actors but no information about Brosnan. They noted that the site carries numerous advertising messages, and that the owner appeared to be using Brosnan's name to earn money. The owner of the site did not file a defense. Anyone can register a domain name for a few dollars, which has led so-called "cybersquatters" to file for famous names to make a fast buck from those who want the names. Some names are worth millions of dollars. Brosnan's lawyers noted that Alberta Hot Rods is linked to Jeff Burgar, whom they described as a "notorious cybersquatter." In its ruling, the U.N. panel said that Burgar or linked companies have previously been ordered to hand over domain names to other celebrities. Actors Kevin Spacey and Pamela Anderson, "Jurassic Park" author Michael Crichton as well as singing star Celine Dion all have won their domain names from Burgar or companies linked to him. The U.N. arbitration system, which started in 1999, allows those who think they have the right to a domain to get it back without having to fight a costly legal battle or paying large sums of money

Hehe. I doubt he'll be using it, it's just to keep someone else from using it improperly. Ace

A dog and hay... What a waste! He could turn it into an electronic newsletter board - a few news, a short interview every once in a while, a couple of pictures every now and then. Low maintenance stuff, but still much appreciated by his fans. I wonder if I should suggest the idea to Mr. B (and be the first in long line of would-be web designers.) "Dear Mister Brosnan. Now that you've finally regained posession of your good name..."

LOL!!! Good idea! I'd be worthless as his web designer, but I'd volunteer for any translations from/into German. You have a huge fan community in my country, too, Mr Brosnan! But, anyway, he was very right in claiming the rights for his name. We can't have any Tom, Dick or Harry (hee hee hee) coming along and use his good name!

I'll be happy to give you a reference as to how good your translation powers are, and perhaps Yuliya would like to offer the same in one or two of her languages. No, just one or two Harrys (Harries?) in particular. ;D cg

Ohhh! I like the graphics! Who is Killarny Productions, though, and do they remember *I* was the first in line? I'm available! Where do I send my credentials?

I believe that's a fragment of one of his paintings so maybe we'll get to see some art in full and not just him posed next to it, not that having him next to it isn't also nice. Killarny, well that's certainly an Irish name, which of course means nothing, they could be situated in Idaho. ;D Ace

Yes, of course it's a painting, one dones in PB's usual Matissean style. And I run a Google search for Killarny, which rendered almost nothing, except for a suggestion to spell it with "ey." Of course, I'd rather work for a company in Ireland (have skills - will travel ) but I'll settle for Idaho. These days, I'll even settle for Kalamazoo. And something like this I'll do for free, just to put it on my resume. Grrr

Where did the "Killarny" name show up? To the best of my knowledge, the Irish spell it Killarney. It's entirely possible I missed it as I took this thread rather quickly, but I thought you meant it was on the ever-so-sparse website from above link. cg

I'm not very good, but I do our website at work and I'm more than willing to spend hours working with PB to get it exactly like he wants! Where did the "Killarny" name show up? To the best of my knowledge, the Irish spell it Killarney. On that menu, click "view source" and your notepad will open showing the HTML for the website and that says: <!-- Copyright 2003 Killarny Productions, All Rights Reserved --> <!-- Reproduction Prohibited--> <!-- For information contact pbsite@greeni.net--> Anybody contacted pbsite@greeni.net yet? ;D migs

It looks like PB's hired this greeni.net company Info on them from their site: "greeni is a design and production company concentrating on corporate interactive CD-ROMs and high-end interfaces for Internet and Intranet sites. We are located in Laguna Beach, CA, and have performed work for clients all across the US." Killarney Productions is probably something PB is starting up to keep control over the content on the site . . . I'm assuming PB knows how to spell Killarney and someone at greeni misspelled it . . . definitely looks like he needs to get rid of them and hire someone who can spell (like me . . . hint . . . hint . . . ;D ) . . . And, see, I can even do detective work, too ;D ::tries not to strain arm patting self on back:: ;D migs

greeni.net do web design, it's a safe bet PB won't need anyone's help any time soon. However, migs, I was there first and I have a degree to back up my claim, so stand back and let the professionals do the job. PB probably knows how to spell Killarney but it's sometimes spelled without an 'e', too. My guess is "Killarney Productions" was already taken.

Just for the record, Killarney is a town in Co. Kerry in western Ireland. It's located on the Iveragh peninsula and thus not far from the famous Ring of Kerry. There is a Killarney Lake and a Killarney National Park as well. This info comes from my guidebook for Ireland. I'm thrilled that PB will be having his own website!! I still volunteer my help with the creation of any German branches, Mr Brosnan! PierceBrosnan.de doesn't sound bad now, does it?

Killarney is a town in Co. Kerry in western Ireland. However, sometimes the word is being spelled as Killarny; thus, there is Killarny park in Ontario, Canada, there are Killarny hotels in Ireland, and among other odds and ends there is web designer Killarny at www.killarny.net/ - I don't know if the person has something to do with Kilarny Productions or not. Anyway, it looks like Killarny is a less common but not unknown spelling of Killarney and if it's something chosen by PB then he probably chose it because the common spelling was taken.
