www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=2045Halle Berry's Jinx Spin-Off is a No-GoSource: Variety Sunday, October 26, 2003 Halle Berry will not be seen again as the American spy in the Die Another Day spin-off Jinx, after all. Much to the apparent dismay of Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson at Eon, MGM has nixed their planned spin-off movie featuring Berry's character, which was due to be made before the next Bond film. Jinx was being written by Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Rob Wade, and was due to be directed by Stephen Frears (which hadn't been announced yet). Last week MGM told Eon to stop work on the project and press ahead instead with Bond 21, due to shoot in 2005. ======================================== Interesting that MGM and not EON pulled the plug. I guess they didn't believe in the market for it or maybe that it's development was getting in the way of the MUCH more important Bond 21. MBE

I'm surprised it ever went past the rumor stage.

Yeah and they got acclaimed Brit Indie Director Stephen Frears for it? Surprising. As for a script not surprising, tons of spec scripts are made that never get developed, like for the Wai Lin film. But she was a far a more popular character and Michelle Yeoh is actually a fantastic action star unlike Halle who I think is more suited for dramatic roles. Maybe all the bad buzz on her Catwoman (Kitty want whip! URGH!) scared MGM off... that and the schedule was starting to interfere with Bond 21. Ace

Forgive my ignorance, but does any of the above mean that she will reprise the role in Bond 21? Or am I reading this wrong? I didn't think that generally happened in the Bond series. cg btw - last call! Isn't there anyone who wants this four-sided, huge cardboard DAD display with PB and HB photos on it? (same photo on each of four sides)

No she won't be returning for Bond 21. A Bond girl hasn't made a return since Sylvia Trench showed up in Dr. No and FRWL and she wasn't the main girl in either. (more his ever left behind British girlfriend) Although Michelle Yeoh was scheduled for a small cameo in DAD but her film ran over and she couldn't make it. This was suppossed to be for the rumored first ever Bond spin-off straring Jinx. Not a good idea IMO because spin offs inevitably bleed the and devalue the original, especially when the same proucers/ writers/ crew are doing both. And in this case I don't believe her character was popular enough to head her own franchise, not to justify the proposed cost anyway. Hmmm.... temptress! I have no room for that. But I really think you could sell it on EBAY. Ace

I knew that part; it was the idea that the potential Jinx film was running into the filming of 21 that made me wonder if it would have required bi-location. I was going to say that's the nicest thing I've been called in a while, but...it would sound a lot better coming from a guy. No offense. ;D Not my thing. I did debate about sticking it in the window for Halloween, but after that, I can't say where it might end up. cg

Nothing shall run into or encoach on the behomoth and studio money maker and savior that is Bond. I think MGM realized EON might have been spending time on Jinx better spent elsewhere and that's why they nixed it. Yes they want another franchise but not one that will adversely affect the "One". ;D Well sometimes we just have to setle in life. ;D That sounds ominous. It mustn't be destroyed, it's it's it's lifesize Pierce! Ace

Nearly life-sized, but the photos are only from a bit above the waist up. ::works really hard at not making comment about how much less appealing that would make it to some unnamed people:: ;D cg p.s. Besides, I wouldn't destroy it! I might just have to set it on the curb with a sign saying, "free to good home." If I'd managed to have my garage sale this fall I might have put it out then, but I wasn't that organized. Sigh....

Lovely though she is, she's intruding. But what if it rains! Or a dog gets at it... it's so dangerous... Ace

Hmm, doesnt look like you tried too hard. ;D I did, really I did! Now that you mention it, she does look a bit possessive, and she is holding the gun in front of him, kind of like "you'll have to get past me first!" But I'm sure one could drape something over her part of the photo. LOL Don't be silly, I wouldn't put it out if rain was predicted. Hmmm....do you think her holding the gun might keep the animals away? ::seriously ponders possibilities:: cg

Well that's just not right. yeah I know she's there on the posters to but couldn't she move to the side to make it easier to cut around her. A pooper scooper would probably do her more good. Ace

I always thought that Halloween was about scary creatures, so PB would not fit the picture, I would think. But you could try and have it beamed over to me, CG. ;D

They don't have to be scary, you can be dressed up as anybody - often fictional characters. Yes, there's a certain amount of ghost/witches/cemeteries about Halloween, but there's also a lighter side.
When my daughter was little, my mom made her a blue checked jumper, we put her hair in braids, she carried a black dog in a little basket and had store-bought sparkling red shoes. We went to one house and the man said quite seriously, "who are you supposed to be?" LOL

;D ;D ;D Reminds of some movie (don't remember what, it was probably just a scene I caught) where a little boy after such a joke asked, "Mommy, is he an idiot?" Actually, Haloween decorations are still about scary creatures; at least I don't remember seeing Bugs Bunny among decorations. But Bond obscured by that girl who briefly was with him in a movie and a promise of more to come... What's not scary? Suddenly my house is beginning to look warm and welcoming.

Yes, in spite of the fact that costumes range from disgustingly gory to childishly benign (although I find Teletubbies extremely frightening), the decorations do tend to lean heavily towards "fright," with a few pumpkins and colored leaves thrown in. (And don't you just hate it when they throw those pumpkins?) ;D hee hee hee cg

(And don't you just hate it when they throw those pumpkins?) ;D Heh. Nobody said costumes couldn't be frightening. A couple of years ago, when my kids were still at the daycare, the teacher's aid was supposed to dress up as a witch. Unfortunately, she was appying make-up with the teacher's (and owner's) teen-age daughter. Tell you what, they had to hold kids, so scared they were, and the aid's husband wouldn't let her in - he didn't recognize her at first. The kids eventually got used to tousled hair, shaky voice, and blue lips as soon as they believed it was their beloved teacher, but next year the daycare opted for a visit of the safer Great Pumpkin. What do you mean - throw pumpkins?! Nobody throws my precious 3-teethed, 2-eared, 2-eyed, 3-browed pumpkin with two stars on the sides! hands off; I can hardly lift it mysefl!

Great. And these were people who allegedly were capable of working with kids? Yikes. "3-browed?" I'm afraid to ask. cg

"3-browed?" I'm afraid to ask. It was made lopsisded (by intent!) and there was more room over one eye, so I made two brows, almost vertical. It almost looks like the pumpkin is winking.
