Hugh Jackman Tipped For Bond Rolewww.channel4.com/film/newsfeatures/news_story.jsp?storyId=2346Australian actor HUGH JACKMAN is the new favourite to take over from PIERCE BROSNAN as the next JAMES BOND. Brosnan plans to hang up the superspy's famous tuxedo when filming concludes on the next installment in the series - and X-MEN star Jackman is thought to be top of the list of potential replacements. A source at 007 movie makers EON says, "A lost of possible successors has been drawn up, and Hugh is at the top. He's got everything the producers are looking for - dark good looks, an athletic build, a sense of humour and box-office clout. At 35, he is also the right age." British actors CLIVE OWEN, IOAN GRUFFUDD, JEREMY NORTHAM and PAUL BETTANY have all been put in the frame - but they have now reportedly been eliminated. The source explains, "Owen lacks the necessary lightness of touch to make Bond a box-office success." While Bettany is "strawberry blond - and there's never been a blond 007". Bond director LEWIS GILBERT adds, "You can't have someone too young playing Bond because they would never be believable in the part. "And the chances of getting a superstar like RUSSELL CROWE are slim because he'll be too expensive, he'll have all sorts of projects lined up and is unlikely to want to commit to making a series of films. Hugh Jackman clearly fits the bill." Published: Oct 26, 2003 *** There, the infamous "source" again. And a Ex-Bond director. Seems vaguely familiar.

Well Owen's film bombed so these inside souces have to move on and pimp for another actor in need of some extra publicity. ;D This year alone I've read the Bond stuff when Jeremy Northram's spy film Company Man was coming out, when Ewan McGregor was doing the rounds for Down With Love, when Dougray Scott was releasing something or other and on and on... I guess someone thinks Hugh's new Broadway show The Boy From oz needs to sell more tickets. Ace

Oh this is funny. Here's the original rumor from MovieHole (an Australian run Entertainment Website) www.moviehole.net/news.php?newsid=2515Another Aussie set for 007 gig?Oct 14, 2003 The net’s abuzz that Clive Owen’s a shoe-in to take over the role of debonair 007 when Pierce Brosnan hands in the keys to the Aston Martin, but according to an insider for NW Magazine Owen mightn’t be the favourite after all. “A list of possible successors has already been drawn up – and Hugh is at the very top. He’s got what the producers are looking for: dark good looks, sex appeal, a sense of humour and box-office clout. He’s also the right age”. 35 year old Jackman joins a list of potentials that includes Ralph Fiennes, Dougray Scott, Colin Farrell and the previously mooted Owen. Funnily enough, Mel Gibson was at one time rumoured to be up for the James Bond gig, but nothing ever eventuated. If Jackman can fit it in - what with half a dozen "X-Men" related projects in the pipeline - it might be a cool move. ==================================== NW Magazine is an Australian Celebity magazine... and thier "insider" is of course not the same as an EON insider. Where the IMDB got the quote from former Bond director Lewis Gilbert who knows, looks like someone pulled it from an unrelated interview and stuck it in. If you notice he doesn't even mention Jackman in his quote. The IMDB news section is becoming embarrassing. I guess their Pro version is more reliable and official but for that one has to pay. As for the conclusion of MovieHole, if they think EON would allow Bond to be just some fun movie squeezed in by their lead actor among 6 X-Men projects they're delusional. Ace

This list has a very flat top - it's able to accomodate anyone who manages to climb up. Personally, I've seen Swordfish recently and don't think Hugh Jackman has what it takes. He might be handsome, charming, and even dark, he might be on the top of my list of would-bes because my list is pretty short (what do I watch these days except for PB and LOTR?), but Jackman isn't it. At least not yet.

Don't want to embarrass myself here, but out of that list Ralph Fiennes would be my choice.

Er have you see the abomination that was The Avengers? Fiennes has proven he has NO sense of humor or charm, if he couldn't do Steed he certainly can't do Bond. But then this entire list kind of blows... so pick your poison. Ace

Yes, kind of like picking the lesser of evils. LOL
I just thought that he always comes off so very British, but that's surely not enough to be Bond.

I saw Fienness, and not only in Avengers, and think he's a good actor, but regardless of whether he has sense of humor or not - he's 40 years old. When I was talking about my personal list, I was thinking about those who'll be the right age by the time PB retires.

Didn't I just see somewhere that Hugh Jackman is signed to some big Australian musical for at least a year? Reviews said he's great but the show stinks.

Yeah, The Boy From Oz, currently playing on Broadway. Maybe the show neded more publicity to sell tickets. Anyhow he could be doing the show for 3 years and it wouldn't matter. PB is already signed to do the next Bond film starting in 2005. The earliest another actor could play Bond is in 2007 and PB might be doing that one anyway. It's really up to him when he does his last, the prodcuers have said as much. It's just a game the tabloids and press agents play. Ace

I think a singing and dancing Bond might be quite intriguing. Give a whole new direction to the genre. Anyone else familiar with the Fred Astaire movie in which he sets off firecrackers with his taps while dancing? "Consider the possibilities...." cg

::blanches in complete horror:: I think Sean Connery warbling a couple of verses of Underneah The Mango Tree in Dr. No is more than enough and about as far as that should ever go. Ace

What? You don't think Pb's Bond should sing? "The music for my ears..." SNL... Although I own a couple of his warblings on the Evelyn CD that would be a no. OK maybe two phrases while downing a few drinks but that it. If he wants to get truly musical he can play the flute. ;D Ace

But you've totally ignored the dancing part! While he's distracting people with his singing, he's firing at them with his feet. Do I have to explain everything? cg

Suddenly I got the visions of Mr. Bond playing the flute in an attempt to mesmerize a villain...

And they're going to sit there and wait while it takes effect?
On the other hand, I can see him playing a flute while one of the Bond girls rises up, dancing, from a basket. Oh, wait, I think Bing Crosby already did that in Road to Something. Morocco? Bali?

I hope that it is just another silly rumour that H. Jackman takes on the role. It would be madness.

I wouldn't mind Bond singing or playing the flute, given it is Pierce. But I guess that he'd have to find songs that match a vodka-martini. Those from Evelyn only go with Guinness. ;D *** MOORE'S SON SLAMS BOND CONTENDERSwww.channel4.com/film/newsfeatures/news_story.jsp?storyId=2396Former JAMES BOND star ROGER MOORE's son GEOFFREY has hit out at reports Australian actor HUGH JACKMAN will become the next 007 - claiming the role should go to a British actor. Moore - who has previously been tipped to take on the role himself - was horrified when he heard the X-MEN star is favourite to take over when current Bond PIERCE BROSNAN steps down. He fumes, "It couldn't be him. Even if Jackman could do a perfect English accent, it just wouldn't be the same. You might as well have BRAD PITT and go the whole Hollywood route." The 37-year-old is equally dismissive of British choice CLIVE OWEN. He snipes, "He'd be a Bond in the TIMOTHY DALTON mould." Published: Oct 29, 2003 *** Geoffrey Moore agrees with you, Jesse. Well, and so do I.
