Going through film books - yes, I'm attempting to weed the film and television collection - and found our copies of the two books based on Aine O'Connor's 6 part documentary produced in 1995/1996 - "Leading Hollywood," Two books were published based on the series: "Leading Hollywood" and "Hollywood Irish." The books include chapters from her extensive conversations with Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan, Patrick Bergin, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea, and Gabriel Byrne. The text are virtually identical - layouts differ. One book blurb says - "Book of the forthcoming major TV series and Video." O'Connor and her partner were the producers of the documentary series which was produced by Radio Telefís Eireann/RTE.
I've looked for the documentary using WorldCat.org but could not find a video copy exists. Searching newspaper databases I discovered that the first part aired on RTE1, Monday, November 4, 1996 and the series subsequently aired on BBC2 the first week of December, 1996. My search dates were January 1, 1995 - August 11, 2022 and it appears that the documentary was not aired again (or it didn't made the TV listings.)
I also searched the RTE archives hoping the series was available on their site - then searched the Irish Film and TV Research Online database sponsored by Trinity College, Dublin - www.tcd.ie/irishfilm/
There is a catalog record for the series but "Trinity College Dublin does not hold copies of any of the films on IFTVRO. If it is known where a copy of a film is held this will be noted in the Copy field in the film entry." This record does not note that any copies are held by archives or libraries. This is a very interesting research collection and their booklet discusses their mission, etc. www.tcd.ie/irishfilm/pdfs/booklet_irishfilm.pdf
Has anyone ever seen this documentary series or know if it was available on video from Crimson Films (O'Connor's company) or from Radio Telefís Eireann/RTE in the UK?
A tribute to O'Connor appeared on RTE - www.rte.ie/archives/category/media/2018/0306/945462-aine-oconnor-tribute/
"She then had a long-term relationship with actor Gabriel Byrne before becoming involved with actor David Duffy with whom she had a son Gavin.
She was married to television producer Larry Masterson for four years. Áine O’Connor died on 11 March 1998 at the age of fifty after being diagnosed with cancer."
