Pierce Brosnan to Star in ‘The Last Rifleman,’ With WestEnd, CAA on Board
Pierce Brosnan will star in “The Last Rifleman,” to be directed by Terry Loane (“Mickybo and Me”).
The U.K.’s WestEnd Films has acquired worldwide rights and will be representing the project to buyers at the upcoming Toronto film festival. WestEnd is co-representing U.S. rights with CAA.
“The Last Rifleman” will follow a World War II veteran living in a care home in Northern Ireland who, on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, decides to secretly escape and embark on an arduous journey to France, to pay his final respects to his best friend and find the courage to face the ghosts of his past.
The story is inspired by World War II veteran Bernard Jordan who, at the age of 89, escaped his care home in East Sussex, boarded a bus to Portsmouth, got on a ferry to France and made his way to Normandy for the 70th anniversary commemorations of the D-Day landings in June 2014.
Developed with funding from Northern Ireland Screen, the film was written by Kevin Fitzpatrick and is produced by Katy Jackson and John Leslie from Wee Buns (“Zoo”). It is co-produced by Jacqueline Kerrin and Dominic Wright from Ripple World Pictures (“Wisting”). Executive producers include Mark Huffam (“Mamma Mia!”), Kevin Jackson (“The Truth Commissioner”) and Eloise Singer (“Rare Beasts”).
Fitzpatrick said: “Bernard Jordan’s daring journey caught the nation’s attention and highlighted the spirit that epitomised the Second World War generation. I was enthralled by this story and the motives that drive a man near the end of his life on a quest to a place that must hold only painful memories.”
Loane said: “With the recent anniversary of the end of WW2, I feel the timing is perfect to tell this story, while an ever-diminishing handful of veterans are still with us to share their lives.”
Principal photography will begin this winter in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Love Belfast on Twitter made a nice collage. Pierce Out and About in NIIn one of the photos, it looks like he was placing a wee bet or two. I wonder if they let him bet on who the next Bond will be. Also, the way he is has been so out and about, I wonder if he is going to wind up singing "Who Are the People In Your Neighborhood?" from Sesame Street.

Hi Fkma! There is no official word, BUT some of the folks who have met Pierce Brosnan while he (evidently) ran his errands, have noted that he said he is filming.
We have not had any pictures this week, which makes me wonder if he is now in makeup as a ninety year old man. I'd love to see what that looks like.

DYE ANOTHER DAY James Bond star Pierce Brosnan unrecognisable with white hair in new role as war veteran, 89
Michael Doyle 20:20, 11 Jul 2022Updated: 20:21, 11 Jul 2022
PIERCE Brosnan looks like he’s aged quite a few years - but the Navan man is just in the middle of filming a new movie.
In The Last Rifleman, Brosnan plays Artie Crawford, a World War II veteran living in a care home in Northern Ireland, who has just lost his wife.
On the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, Artie decides to secretly escape his care home and embarks on an arduous but inspirational journey to France, to pay his final respects to his best friend, who lost his life on June 6, 1944.
Former James Bond star Brosnan, 69, has been spotted out and about sampling local hospitality during filming for his new Terry Loane directed flick.
The star swapped Hollywood in the States for Holywood in Co Down, stopping into the Fontana restaurant.
Posing for a snap with a staff member, the restaurant posted on Instagram: "It’s not everyday James Bond pops in for lunch."
It's thought the star will be filming in Ireland for up to six weeks.

LOOK at the smile on his face! He is really enjoying this role. I think it is because he knows this time he can act his *** off and people will finally get how good of an actor he is without the critics calling him a pretty face.** **Nota Bene this author always appreciated his talent and his good looks, but some folks just refused to get past his looks. -- B

I am not sure when he did it, but recently the Ulster Aviation Society posted three photos to Facebook of Pierce paying a visit. It would make sense that his character would have a connection to that museum.
