From the blog, The Suits of James Bond ... One about The Novemberman ... thesuitsofjamesbond.com/november-man-grey-silk-suit/The November Man: The Grey Silk Suit
Posted on 13 December 2014 Pierce Brosnan returned to the spy/action genre earlier this year in Roger Donaldson’s The November Man. Brosnan plays Peter Devereaux, a retired CIA officer who has no reservations about killing or torturing people. The character would certainly not be mistaken for an older James Bond as he is certainly not a gentleman by any means. However, Olga Kurylenko, who played Camille in Quantum of Solace, plays a similar character to what she plays in her Bond film. Brioni, Pierce Brosnan’s suit supplier for his Bond films, provided some of the clothes for The November Man, according to a Brioni press release. One of Peter Devereaux’s nicest outfits in the film is his slubby grey and white pick-and-pick silk suit that he wears with a black shirt. The outfit is not Devereaux’s own but one that Olga Kurylenko’s character Alice Fournier picked out for him from the closet in an apartment they broke into. The grey suit flatters Brosnan’s very cool complexion, though it brings out the grey in his partially-dyed hair. The suit jacket is updated from the boxy, built-up jackets that Brosnan wore in his Bond films to one with more shape and straight shoulders on the natural shoulder line. It fits well, has balanced proportions and has a classic length that covers his rear. Like Brosnan’s Bond suit jackets, this jacket has roped sleeveheads, double vents and slanted hip pockets with a ticket pocket. There are four buttons on the sleeves, and the buttons are sewn in an overlapping “waterfall” style, a common method for tailors in Naples, Italy. The jacket has contrasting button in black plastic, which dress down the suit. Unlike the darted Brioni suit trousers with a medium-high rise that Pierce Brosnan wore in his last two James Bond films, Devereaux’s suit trousers have a flat front and a lower rise. The lower rise does not flatter Brosnan, who is now almost beyond a middle-aged man and has a paunch. It also doesn’t help that he lets the trousers sag below his stomach. He keeps them loose so he can stick a gun in his trouser waistband, a bad habit that Brosnan’s Bond had as well. Brosnan wears the trousers with a black belt. Though black shirts (and other dark shirts) should not usually be worn with suits, Devereaux’s silk suit is not a business suit but rather one that can be dressed up or down for social occasions. Devereaux dresses the suit down with a dark shirt sans tie. The black shirt nicely contrasts with the suit in the same way a black necktie would, but without a tie a light-coloured shirt wouldn’t provide enough contrast with the light-coloured suit to balance Pierce Brosnan’s high-contrast winter complexion. The shirt has black buttons, a spread collar, a plain front and two-button scalloped cuffs, which Devereaux wears unbuttoned. Devereaux’s shoes are the Nike Free Run 2 in all black. Though trainers such as these are inappropriate with a suit, the filmmakers show very little of the shoes. They are really only noticeable if one pauses the film during the three split-second shots when the shoes are visible. Since Pierce Brosnan is 61 years old, and The Novmeber Man requires him to do many action scenes, trainers are unfortunately necessary. When he was James Bond he was in much better shape and able to do the same kind of action in proper shoes.

Hi there, Yesterday was a lovely day…. I visited Oostende, Belgium. Since I knew Pierce visited it, I wanted too. It was my dream to see the star he revealed on the ‘Zeedijk’. From where I live it is a 2,5 hour drive. Today was the day…. off to Oostende, together with my parents. Roundabout 2 am. we were in Oostende and our journey ‘find the star of Pierce’ began. Finally we saw the first star but then we faced a problem….. This day there was a ‘New Years Dive’ in the sea (here it is a tradition for some people)… it was immense busy and they closed the pier at one point… yes…. exactly the place where we had to go. I could not believe it that it was exactly this day, the day I visit Oostende to see the star of Pierce. So, after we heard we could not walk straight to it, we took an other road… we walked around the barricade until we were on the other side of the pier. We literally were soaked, it was raining so extremely hard, but it didn’t bother me if I got the chance to see his star. After an extreme long and wet walk I finally saw some stars and YES….. I SAW PIERCE HIS STAR!! I was the happiest person on earth and I am still in the clouds that I saw his star and that I was on the same spot! I am extremely thankful that my parents gave me this opportunity. Afterwards we went to a nice restaurant and enjoyed a lovely dinner! This day was amazing!!!!

www.denofgeek.us/movies/action-movies/242973/the-underappreciated-action-movies-of-2014The Underappreciated Action Movies of 20146. The November ManProduction budget of $15m, worldwide gross of $32.5m Confidence in The November Man’s success before its release seems to have acted like a jinx. Before any of us had even seen the film there was talk that a sequel was already in production, confirmed by its star Pierce Brosnan during his interview circuit in the States, and then the film sank without a trace. It’s no secret that I’m a rather substantial Brosnan fan, so the prospect of getting a new franchise that would see him back to violent espionage made me excited to say the least. Yet months after the US theatrical and subsequent home release, the rest of the world seems to have been left dangling after such a limited international release that you’d have been hard pressed to see it. It makes you realise the validity of unleashing a film simultaneously worldwide, as box office success should no longer be based on the domestic (US) take of a film – most films on this list have been reliant on every other country to even come close to a profit. Either way The November Man is a cracking little film, slickly executed and surprisingly bloodthirsty, especially in our PG-13 heavy climate, which makes for a refreshingly adult take on the nasty world of spies and political conspiracies. It’s also great to see a bright colour palette and sheen to such a film, when so many modestly budgeted thrillers are endlessly desaturated to hide any short comings, and all have some kind of need to portray other countries as threatening through weather and colour alone. Brosnan, reunited with his Dante’s Peak director Roger Donaldson, still possesses all the requisite skills needed to make a believable bad ass and it’s great to see how different he can still make each of his spy incarnations, from the sleazy bastard in The Tailor of Panama to the tragic mess in The Matador. Here he plays a cold blooded killer, free of the charm and quips that made him such a great Bond, who’s embroiled in the hunt for a woman that every side wants to get to first. The November Man hurtles by at speed, with guns ablaze and enough depth to the plot to make it a worthy addition to this list and a great night's entertainment.

Quite honestly,I found November Man to be a mediocre movie. After so many years of thoughts about it it could have been A LOT better. Pierce was great though...also I don't know why the promotion of the movie was so poor...it was practically non-existent. what is Pierce's PR doing?

There was a ton of promotion for this movie - most of it is captured in this thread. I know that I got sick of hearing "cultured badass" on every interview he did. He did the talk show circuit - there was even a premiere in Hollywood for it - and he even went to Russia for some press, too. It's possible, however, that where you live might not have had the same coverage, tho. Which is why I love this board - someone will usually find something on the topic to share here, even if the PR machine is not working how we think it should!

Yeah, well,I live in Croatia and here the promotion didn't exist at all. I only found out about the movie when I went to see what's in cinemas...but still I don't know why the box office was so disappointing...
