Info on the project from Variety www.variety.com/article/VR1118013794.html?categoryId=3768&cs=11/14/10 Mandalay Entertainment is spinning off a new division to finance indie films. Celine Rattray is leaving Plum Pictures to head up the new venture, dubbed Mandalay Vision. In her new post as president, Rattray will begin staffing up the Gotham-based offices with production and financing executives. Flush with its own coin, Mandalay Entertainment has a long history in the film financing, production and international distribution sphere. Mandalay Vision will focus its efforts on developing and producing features with budgets up to $16 million. Rattray will report to Mandalay board members Peter Guber, Paul Schaeffer, Cathy Schulman and Peter Strauss. As a partner in Plum Pictures, Rattray has been a regular on the festival circuit and has produced such pics as "New York, I Love You," "Afterlife," "The Winning Season," "Diminished Capacity," "Birds of America," "Grace Is Gone," "Dedication" and "Lonesome Jim." Rattray has earned a reputation for raising and delivering financing steadily despite the economic downturn as well as fewer distribution opportunities for indie pictures. Mandalay Vision's initial film slate includes "Salvation Boulevard," an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Larry Beinhart ("Wag the Dog") that Mandalay Pictures optioned in 2009. George Ratliff will direct from a script he penned with Douglas Stone. Among slate titles are "The Kids Are All Right," directed by Lisa Cholodenko, starring Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo and premiering at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival; and the Larysa Kondracki-helmed drama "The Whistleblower," starring Rachel Weisz, Vanessa Redgrave and David Strathairn.

www.thrillerwriters.org/2008/08/award-winning-larry-beinhart-discusses-s.htmlAward winning Larry Beinhart discusses Salvation Boulevard By Linda Richards Those who have read Larry Beinhart's novels are unsurprised to discover his extreme erudition and the deep thought and care he applies to all of his work. Take, for example, 1993's American Hero, the book that would become the film Wag the Dog. The film - and the book - resonated with so many readers and viewers because we recognized the reality of the ridiculous situation Beinhart created in his story. In his own words, "war as a performance for home viewership." What could be more silly, right? Yet, as told by this author, what ever felt more chillingly real? To hear him tell it, Beinhart's newest novel, out this month from Nation Books, takes an entirely different path to get us to the same place of incredulous recognition. In Salvation Boulevard, says Beinhart "the corpse is an atheist professor, the accused is an Islamic foreign student, the defense attorney is a Jewish lawyer, the investigator is a born-again Christian. The Mystery is God." In a starred review, Publisher's Weekly seemed to find it impossible to resist the temptation of comparing Beinhart's best known novel with what may well come to be thought of as his most important. PW said Salvation Boulevard is "less jaunty," than Wag the Dog, "but definitely more ambitious," at the same time calling the new book a "splendid religious legal thriller." The screen rights to the film have already been acquired. George Ratliff (Hell House, Joshua) will write the script and direct while Mandalay Independent Pictures will finance, produce and develop. Beinhart feels that Salvation Boulevard is a "more distinctly fictional" book than others he's done in the past. "I would guess the reason is that there is no public place where the drama of what faith really is has been played out. We have plenty of people acting on faith. Plenty of people moving in and out of it and some opposing it, but nowhere where the investigation of what it really is has been played out." In Salvation Boulevard, then, the author corrects this cosmic oversight. If you ask, for instance, why Beinhart wrote this book at this time, you can expect to get an earful. There is no easy answer, it would seem, but it's all deeply interesting. "Religion has returned as the number one excuse for violence and war," the author says. "The 21st Century has started out as a bad acid flashback of the 12th. We should be asking why. People who believe speak out in defense of faith, how good, how wonderful it is. The New Atheists look at their truth claims and find them ridiculous, look at their actions and find them hideous, and can't figure out why anyone would believe or even accept belief in others. It would seem, on the face of it, that figuring out why people believe would be our number one academic industry and our number one national security priority, but there is no meaningful dialogue about it. That's why I wrote the book and even though it's a thriller and a murder mystery and a detective story with chases and shoot outs and some sexy stuff, that's what it's really about."

showbiz411.wordpress.com/Oscar Winners, Nominees Seek “Salvation” Published March 31, 2010 Tags: ed harris, jennifer connelly, marisa tomei, pierce brosnan I’m happy to report that the terrific producers Celine Rattray and Cathy Schulman are helping a bunch of Oscar winners and nominees seek Salvation. That is, they are getting ready to shoot “Salvation Boulevard” with an all-star cast that includes Oscar winners Jennifer Connelly and Marisa Tomei, and nominees Donald Sutherland, Greg Kinnear, and Ed Harris. If you think that’s a good group, just add former Bond Pierce Brosnan, who’s so good right now in “The Ghost Writer.” (If you haven’t seen the Roman Polanski thriller, you are missing great movie making.) The indie production is budgeted at $5.5 million. I’m told these intrepid women have raised all but the last $250,000. “Salvation Boulevard” seems like a sound investment. Between the producers and the cast, and director George Ratliff, they have the combined credentials to make a hit. Ratliff adapted his script from a novel by Larry Beinhart, author of the book that became one of my favorite movies, “Wag the Dog.” Schulman, meantime, was the driving force behind the Oscar winning “Crash.” She has dozens of credits including one of my guilty pleasure Sundance movies, “Thumbsucker.” Rattray is the founder of Plum Pictures, a plucky indie company with its own set of impressive titles including one of this past Sundance’s best films, :Lisa Cholodenko’s “The Kids Are Alright.” The latter film will get a big Oscar push, I hope, from Focus Features. So the indie film world lives. I can’t wait to see “Salvation Boulevard” turn out to be one of the happy surprises of 2011.

Pierce Brosnan: Sorry for my silence. I'm in Michigan working on a new film called Salvation Blvd. I'm in the company of a very fine cast of players including my good friend Greg Kinnear who co-starred with me in The Matador, Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Marisa Tomei and an old friend from my theatre days in Glasgow, Ciaran Hinds. Salvation Blvd is a black comedy of errors, which I hope you will enjoy. Back to you soon. PB Pierce Brosnan: It looks like I will be spending more time in Michigan making 2 additional films following Salvation Blvd. The people of Michigan have welcomed us with open arms and we as a film community have embraced their welcome. The spirit here is indomitable considering the hardship people have endured following the crisis of the auto industry. I was proud to be here the day our President spoke to the graduating class of 2010.

www.screendaily.com/news/distribution/arclight-to-sell-remaning-territories-on-salvation-boulevard/5013705.articleArclight to sell remaning territories on Salvation Boulevard 12 May, 2010 | By Jeremy Kay Arclight Films International will handle sales on all remaining territories on Mandalay Vision’s comedic thriller Salvation Boulevard, currently shooting in Michigan. Myriad Pictures previously handled sales on the film, which boasts an ensemble of Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Greg Kinnear and Marisa Tomei. Arclight managing director Gary Hamilton and Victor Syrmis will serve as executive producers on the film, as will Myriad CEO and president Kirk D’Amico. George Ratliff is directing from Larry Beinhart’s novel of the same name about a born-again Christian on the run from fundamentalist members of his church. “The complexity of the production process often demands flexibility,” D’Amico said. “We are glad that we were able to work with Mandalay to accommodate the needs specific to this film.” ““The film has huge potential both commercially and as a work of such quality and substance that everyone associated with it will be justifiably proud,” Hamilton said. “Mandalay appreciates all of the efforts of Myriad to date, and is so pleased to be working with Arclight’s team at Cannes,” Mandalay Vision president Celine Rattray said.

www.freep.com/article/20100528/ENT01/100528049/1319/Comedic-thriller-with-Brosnan-ends-filming-in-metro-DetroitComedic thriller with Brosnan ends filming in metro DetroitBy JULIE HINDS May 28, 2010 “Salvation Boulevard” is saying good-bye to metro Detroit. The comedic thriller starring Pierce Brosnan of James Bond fame wrapped filming Thursday. It’s expected to hit theaters next year. The entire movie was filmed here, producer Cathy Schulman says. Scenes were shot in Milford, Livonia, Novi, Wixom, Brighton, Dearborn, Plymouth, Ann Arbor, Trenton and Grosse Pointe. “And surprisingly to me, we were able to find every location we desired within an hour-and-a-half radius,” says Schulman, who’s also president of Mandalay Pictures. The film’s cast —Greg Kinnear, Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly and Marisa Tomei — gave local residents a chance for impressive star sightings. “I think people have been excited and surprised wherever we’ve been, particularly to run into actors of this caliber, and often to see 007 walking out of a building or restaurant,” says Schulman. The Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, Don’s of Traverse City, a restaurant in Novi, and the Riley Broadcast Center in Novi, home of WTVS-TV, were among the locations used. The movie is based on a novel by Larry Beinhart, which Schulman describes as a satirical thriller about faith in America. The crew spent about 15 hours filming at Leon’s Family Dining in Dearborn, says assistant manager Moe Askar. Kinnear was around that day, but Askar says they were told Brosnan couldn’t be there because he had chipped a tooth. “Everybody wanted to see him,” Askar says. Brosnan, Kinnear, Tomei and comedian Jim Gaffigan were at Dearborn’s Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, where scenes were filmed inside and outside, says theater manager Martin Zbosnik. “It’s not your typical day in Dearborn having these people walk through the lobby,” he says. But “by the second or third day, it was like, ‘Oh, there’s Pierce Brosnan.’ It was just another person walking through the door.”
