Like I said times already, Pierce hasn't had a movie that has nominated by the Oscars since 1998's The Quest For Camelot. He deserves much, much, much better than this, especially after Bond. After his unfair dismissal from Bond, I expect A LOT going on for him, and I was hoping that he would do what Sean did and take it to the next level. Just getting excellent reviews is not enough.
Look at Sean. After Bond, he had several movies (good or bad) that either won or were nominated by the Oscars. Following his first departure from Bond after Diamonds Are Forever, he had 4 post-Bond films that won or nominated: Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Meteor (1979), and Outland (1981). And following his second departure after Never Say Never Again, he had 6 films that won or nominated: The Untouchables (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), DragonHeart (1996), and The Rock (1996).
Pierce and his work deserve recognition from the Academy, and whoever said he isn't Oscar material is an idiot.

Just because a film is nominated for an Oscar doesn't mean it's good, let alone great as evidenced by some of the Connery films you listed and several films just nominated for an Oscar. Besides I don't think a film getting a tech or song award reflects good or bad on an actor. Really is that Camelot cartoon a better film than TCA, Tailor, Matador, Ghost Writer or even Dante's Peak? Definitely not. And FYI Dolphins was nominated for best short doc for 2000.
If we're comparing Connery's post Bond career to Pierce's in terms of Oscar the only thing that matters is that Connery himself wasn't nominated (and won) for an Oscar until 17 years after he stopped playing Bond and it wasn't for one of his best performances - which again shows while Oscar's are a nice honor but they are not the best determination for quality.

Bad movies do tend to get nominated. As mentioned before, not many Sean's films nominated by the Oscars were great. I didn't say that Camelot is better than his Bonds, TC, Ghost Writer, or others you listed above. I just wanted to see more of Pierce's work to be recognized by the Oscars, good or bad, because it's just better that way even it doesn't reflect much on him. Sean got an Oscar 4 years after his final appearance as Bond in NSNA.

Eh, Connery wasn't Bond for 12 years before he did NSNA and won nothing during that period even though I think he did some of his best work during that time before he basically did NSNA as a paycheck one off and then didn't do another film for about 3 years.
As for Pierce, he and Ghost Writer have been on several "Oscar snub" lists so there are quite a few critics that do think his performance and the film was Oscar worthy. But in the end there just wasn't enough Buzz - be it the divisiveness of Polanski or more likely Summit releasing the film way back in February and not even in a wide release and then when award season came along not wanting to invest too much in promoting the film because they spent $30m on Hurt Locker's campaign that while it brought prestige to the studio they did not recoup in it's theatrical re-release or DVD run.
You just have to look at Summits FYC Oscar ads to see they weren't pushing it. There were 4 and only two even mentioned Oscar and none were specific for actor, director, screenplay, score etc. Most films had about a dozen - many of those smaller films than GW. Warner Bros did about 30 for Inception. Oscar campaigns are expensive and often sad to say nominations are as much about how much $ was spent to push them as the work itself.

www.indiewire.com/article/2011/01/27/salvation_boulevard_goes_to_ifc_and_sony_pictures“Salvation Boulevard” Goes to IFC and Sony Pictures by Nigel M Smith IFC Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions have partnered to acquire North American rights to George Ratliff’s religious comedy “Salvation Boulevard,” which had its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival earlier this week in the Premieres section. “George Ratliff takes a big leap forward with this film which, aside from featuring a powerhouse cast in Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Tomei, Greg Kinnear, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan and Jennifer Connelly, is a clever and sharp comedy that delivers,” said Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. Cathy Schulman, President, Mandalay Pictures and “Salvation Boulevard” producer added, “This unique alliance between IFC Films and Sony will enable ‘Salvation Boulevard’ to take advantage of the most cutting edge distribution strategies. Mandalay strives to realize the vision of each of our filmmakers, and this distribution partnership will further that goal.” FC FILMS AND SONY PICTURES WORLDWIDE ACQUISITIONS JOIN TO TAKE NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS TO GEORGE RATLIFF’S SALVATION BOULEVARD Park City, UT (January 27, 2011) – IFC Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) announced today from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival that the companies are partnering to acquire North American rights to George Ratliff’s SALVATION BOULEVARD, which premiered this week in the festival’s Premieres section. The film, with a screenplay by Ratliff (whose previous films include Hell House and Joshua) and Doug Max Stone, based on the novel by Larry Beinhart, stars Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Greg Kinnear, Jim Gaffigan and Marisa Tomei. The film, a Mandalay Vision production of a Mandalay Pictures film, was produced by Cathy Schulman, Celine Rattray and Peter Fruchtman, and will be released theatrically via IFC Films. In the film, Pastor Dan (Brosnan) is a charismatic preacher who has captivated a city with his charm. Ex-deadhead and recovering hippie Carl (Kinnear) is one of the loyal sheep in his flock. When Dan finds himself in a compromising situation, Carl is called into service in a most unconventional way. The megachurch is cast into shadow, and a hellish storm begins brewing that could jeopardize its entire existence. The road to hell—in this case, SALVATION BOULEVARD—is paved with good intentions—gone hysterically wrong. Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “George Ratliff takes a big leap forward with this film which, aside from featuring a powerhouse cast in Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Tomei, Greg Kinnear, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan and Jennifer Connelly, is a clever and sharp comedy that delivers.” “This unique alliance between IFC Films and Sony will enable SALVATION BOULEVARD to take advantage of the most cutting edge distribution strategies. Mandalay strives to realize the vision of each of our filmmakers, and this distribution partnership will further that goal,” says Cathy Schulman, President, Mandalay Pictures and SALVATION BOULEVARD producer. The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films and Betsy Rodgers, Vice President of Business and Legal Afffairs for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Scott Shooman, SPWA Vice President of Acquisitions and Productions, and Michael Helfand, SPWA SVP of Business Affairs, and Rena Ronson and Richard Klubeck at UTA on behalf of the filmmakers. Ratliff grew up in Amarillo, Texas, and went to film school at the University of Texas in Austin. His first feature film, Plutonium Circus (1995), a documentary about the extremely secretive Pantex Nuclear Weapons Plant in Amarillo, won the award for best feature documentary at the SXSW Film Festival and started his career. His next documentary, Hell House (2001), tracked a megachurch’s annual Halloween ritual of staging a haunted house to scare kids into Christianity. His thriller Joshua screened at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was released through Fox Searchlight. Ratliff lives with his wife and three sons in Santa Monica.

Haters think he's just a pretty boy, but from the looks of this picture, he's like someone you wouldn't want to meet in the dark alley.
