We love hearing celebrities talk about their favorite places but we can never tell if they really mean it or are just talking hot air. Today, however, we can report that Pierce Brosnan’s little ode to New York’s Plaza Athenee is totally legit. We know it’s true because we saw the man there last night.
We already had Pierce on our minds as we settled in for a drink at the hotel’s Bar Seine—he’s quoted in the March issue of GQ raving about the hotel where “he stays and receives visitors”.
GQ also noted that Pierce knew the names of "every server and busboy working at the lavishly bedraped lobby lounge". We’d just about finished our Park Avenue cocktail—and gossiping about how we were sitting where a scene of Sex and the City starring Carrie and her “Russian lov-ah” was shot—when a tall, dark and handsome man in an impeccable suit strode in and sat at the table next to ours.
When the man with the accent greeted the waiter by name, our celebrity radar finally kicked in, and our table of three women immediately went silent. “It’s Pierce!” we were all thinking as the awkward “we’re in the presence of a celebrity” quiet dragged on. “It’s true! He really does love it here. He really does know everyone’s name!”
The Bar Seine shown in much cheesier brighter lighting than actually used.
Apparently, Julianne Moore tried to lure Pierce downtown once, “to stay someplace a bit more modern and trendy. Brosnan lasted one night in SoHo, and it was back to the marble statues of the Athénée.”
We can’t say we blame him. The hotel has just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, and looks like a fitting home for James Bond. We’ll have more details and photos of the revamped rooms for you a bit later this week.
That is, if you can tear us away from our new watering hole, BarPierce Seine…
