The Yankees Win!!!! I'm probably the only person on this board who cares but I am the Taipan and it's been 9 long years (5 years since the horror to end all horrors). Not as long as the drought of my childhood to adulthood in the 80's to mid 90s but still l-o-n-g for this Yankees fan. (and no I don't care about how long it's been for any other team - it's all about me me me! and yeah - millions of other Yankee fans) Such triumphalism! Typical Yankees fan! (And to complain about a drought in the World Series! How many of those trophies have they got?) I'm off to watch a real smash-mouth contest. The Alabama-LSU game! <wink>

The Alabama-LSU game! <wink> College football? You're countering the dynastic Yankees winning the World Series (which took 200 games from spring training to the WS - now that's grueling) with college football? Fie! I am a North Easterner - more importantly a NYer - to whom college football ranks somewhere below NASCAR as a sport (might have something to do with our college teams. How about that Fordham? Um. Nevermind). Baseball is king. P.S.: Congrats on the Alabama win! (I assume that's who you were rooting for if not my condolences) P.P.S.: It's the 27th championship. But only 7 during my lifetime (like I said, it's all about me!) - and yes 9 years was an eternity in Yankee baseball years. Really, it's been so long my beloved Bernie Williams is retired and getting nominated for a Grammy in his second career.

Absolutely true, from your perspective. College football in NY is beneath notice. They have the religion of baseball, and for football, the pro game. I remember Ray Perkins, a stubborn old warhorse who played receiver at Alabama, went on to coach the NY Giants. He left the pros and came back to coach at Alabama and when fans started complaining about how he ran the team he said “You think I give a f*** what fans say? Try dealing with the New York press!” LOL!
I’d need them if I were a fan of LSU! <wink>
Ribbing aside, I do know what it’s like to be a fan of a perennial powerhouse and have a painful dry spell. The Crimson Tide have national championships in every decade since the twenties (there was life before Bear Bryant) with the exception of the nadir of the fifties and the decade of the 80’s. If we don’t clench one this year we will have missed the naughts. If we can beat Florida and Superman Tim Tebow in the upcoming SEC conference Championship game we’ll be in like Flynn and playing (Texas probably) for our 13th national title. I almost hate to say that out loud. I don’t want to jinx anything!
