«Lauryn Reply on June 24»
Just got my copy yesterday of "The Long Good Friday" DVD. In the extras the SMA looks fresh from the set of his latest thriller in Vancouver -- tanned, rested, and ready and looking damned good. Though the commentary was brief, as would be expected, it was rather spring-loaded with charm.
I'm a glutton for punishment this weekend. By which I mean watching Bob Hoskins naked on screen or nearly. There's that long hirsute shower scene in "Good Friday" and I've just rented "Mrs. Henderson Presents." At least there's an amusing payoff line from Judi Dench when Hoskins goes bare there -- if one hasn't turned away. "So you are Jewish Mr. Van Damme."

I got the Long Good Friday and watched it with the Director's Commentary (and averted my eyes from Bob in the shower) and then watched the Making of Documentary. I haven't actually watched the film yet. No matter, I got my SMA fix. He does look very good and is damnably charming in his couple of minutes. As for the the double feature of Bob Hoskins in the flesh -- you're a braver gal than I Lauryn Din. I'd need very much to space that out. Ace

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so my apologies. If I were to purchase The Long Good Friday DVD and wanted all the extras, would this be the one to get?

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so my apologies. If I were to purchase The Long Good Friday DVD and wanted all the extras, would this be the one to get? yes, the Explosive Edition is the one with the extras. You can get it at Deep Discount for $12 and in another month or so their 20% sale should be starting up as well.

Hmmm... Sounds tempting. I was planning on getting Seraphim Falls as soon as it's available and ordering this alongside to save postage. I'll have to see where I can get the better deal on both. Bet that would be at DD as well. Edit: Forgot to say thanks for the info. Thanks! And another edit: I swear the info about the LGF DVD that is on the Amazon page now wasn't there when I looked earlier. At least I hope it wasn't. DD charge more for SF, but for both DVDs I still save about $ 5.

I bet the price on SF will go down the week it comes out, as most movies do, so I wouldn't order it too early. Ah and looking at the DDD topic it seems early-mid June is the usual month for DDD bi-annual sale so you'd have to wait a few weeks.

I'm just thinking if I should get a copy of this DVD. Is it worth getting for PB's brief scenes/commentaries? How's the Director's commentary or the movie as a whole?

The movie is excellent, but you have to like gritty British gangster films. Hoskins is brilliant in it, it has an all time classic end scene and some cracking one liners.
All PB's commentaries on the DVD are in the above link - they total about 3 minutes -- longer than he's in the film. The director's commentary and the making of are very well done.

Thanks Ace, I'd probably be getting a copy of the Region 2 edition from Amazon UK soon, if not just to add to my PB collection... ;D
