Am I the only one getting a zillion little white boxes with red x's all over the board, instead of icons? cg

For me it happened only with my own icon, so I switched back to one from the board. No big deal.

Hey, this is pretty funny! ;D ;D ;D

I didn't call anyone a name. And I can see your winking face, but whatever is in front of it is JUST A WHITE BOX WITH A RED X IN IT. cg

When *I* read this very post, I get a box for the tongue-sticking-out, but I can *see* the crying face. What is going on here?***** Dammit, I quoted again instead of modifying because I have to guess at what I'm doing!!

The reason you can see this and not is because the first is an icon from another page and linked from offsite as are several of the emoticons , as are the PB avatars. While icons ike the smile and the tongue are part of the boards icons, as are the reply, post, preview bittons. For some reason you aren't downloading any of the images connected with the board's main site. I looked at my administrator and regualr user modifying controls and just can't figure out what possible could have been turned on or off to cause this. I have noticed though just loading this post that the emoticons from off site are loading much quicker than the one board ones you can't see. Often when a page loads slowly a browser just "gives up" on loading photos and just resprts to the red box. Try right clicking your mouse on the red boxes and click on show picture and see if it loads then. Ace

OK, I've changes most all the emoticons except the tongue and the kiss because well I couldn't find a good replacement for either of them (but I'm thinking of just linking them from my site) . But all the other buttons well I can't do anything with. Sorry. Ace

Well, you were probably right, but I can see all of them now -- including the kiss! -- so how does that fit into all of this?? Yuliya and Sparkling Blue have been trying to help with this, too, and they can't find something like that either, which I was just sure it was once SBlue came up with that. Been there, done that. First of all, stuff usually loads pretty quickly because I've got a cable modem. Secondly, the "show picture" click does nothing. And btw, Yuliya - I do use IE. For the time being, could somebody at least tell me what order the things are in that I'm missing? The html symbols have words where there aren't icons (and btw, all the avatars show up), but the whole line of things at the top of the board/threads (under the blue bar) is just a row of eight boxes. The last one is "log out," but what are the rest? And on a regular post, what are my empty boxes on the right hand side, top and bottom? I know I'm missing "reply," "quote," and "delete," plus maybe a couple of other things. Sigh.... cg

You can see all the emoticons (like the avatars) now because I changed them all so they'e all off linked from the main server that the board uses. So any problem you're having is just with "proboards" in general, some kind of imcompatibility with your ISP or browser. It could be anything from a turned off cookie to frankly I don't know what. The 8 on top are 1)home 2)help 3)search 4)members 5)calendar 6)admin 7)profile 8)notification You can click on profile and see if there's some kind of choice you accidently turned off but I don't see one when I click on board settings though mine. Oh and when I run my cursor over these I see what these are in the the address bar at the bottom of my browser if that helps; the words "quote" "modify" "profile" etc can be seen about in the middle of the the long string. Within a post the 4 buttons on the top are 1)reply 2)notify 3)send topic top friend 4)print The three buttons within a post next to the subject line are: 1)quote 2)modify 3) delete The three buttons at the bottom when you post are 1)post 2) preview 3) reset Ace

And since we're discussing it here, I'll refrain from using PM to spare Ace and SparklingBlue typing the same suggestions.
CG said she cleaned temprary Internet files. CG, I don't mean to doubt your computer abilities, but just to make sure there isn't any misunderstanding - you went to IE menu bar, selected Tools -> Internet Options... -> General tab in the pop-up window -> Delete Files... in Temporary Internet Files -> checked "Delete all offline content" before hitting OK. It's a harmless operation that shouldn't hurt anything and sometimes does miracles to acting-up computers.
If that's what you did and it didn't work, try deleting your cookies. In my version of IE it's in the same window as deleting temp. Internet files. In other versions it's elsewhere, in Preferences maybe, I don't remember - try Help. Deleting Cookies is a little less harmless because Explorer forgets settings and you'll have to log in to all sites where you usually logged in automatically, etc. But it's also safe, just a little more work.
If that doesn't work, in the same window where you deleted temp. Internet files there is also "Settings..." Go there, select "View Files" button, and if you see any files left, delete them all. (Those are remaining cookies.)
If that doesn't work even after you reboot, I think you should call your Internet Service Provider and tell them you've got a problem. You probably either want to be online when you call or, if you only have dial-up, write down the addresses of this site and tell them you can't see any icons or pictures - they'll be able to figure out where those pictures come from.

CG said she cleaned temprary Internet files. CG, I don't mean to doubt your computer abilities No problem, we all know I'm pretty low tech! Um...not exactly...but I'd probably have to go back through and write down exactly what I did before I could tell you. Once I figure out what I did, you can tell me if it's basically the same thing. I have done that, leaving only four that are specific ones for me not to sign into places again. Would eliminating those and starting completely fresh possibly make a difference?? Yes, that's what I've done, except for the four as noted above. Well, I am dumb enough not to have a clue as to how my ISP could help, mostly because this seems to be the only site with which I am having trouble. Plus, in spite of what I seem to have indicated, I never lost the avatars - "just" nearly all of the icons/symbols everywhere else. cg p.s. I really appreciate the help y'all are trying to give me with this!!

If one of them is to sign to this board, maybe you should delete it but other log-ins shouldn't affect anything. Ace will correct me if I'm wrong but avatars were on her site and the smileys you couldn't see were off-linked from elsewhere. I don't know what your ISP can do, either, but it's their job to resolve such problems. Basically what happens is you can's see graphics when it comes from some sites; maybe it's a problem between your ISP and those sites/domains, and there can be more than one site/domain but you don't visit others so you only see the tip of the iceberg. Your ISP may suggest changing something in your commection settings or they may simply tell you it's a known problem that will be resolved soon. Or in the worst case they may tell you they have no idea, either... Yuliya

Okay - too complicated to explain, but using my McAfee Internet Security, I have just wiped out, deleted, and shredded all temp files, cookies, surfing records, web bugs, history lists, and heaven knows what else. I went into "view files" and deleted every single last cookie, and then I re-booted. NO CHANGE. Thanks for the attempts; I gotta go now. Maybe I'll check in with the ISP on Monday. cg

Just a wild guess - CG, is it possible that your McAfee Internet security doesn't think those site/domans/pictures are safe? Maybe you should check the McAfee settings, maybe they for some reason don't let you see the pictures. Sorry if it sounds silly, I don't really know wht I'm talking about - Ive never used any added Internet security, so I don't know what they usually do except for virus scans.

If I had changed anything about it in the last week, that would make sense. But I haven't. Can't think of anything I have changed on this sucker in the last week, actually, besides general maintenance. Some time back I might have had a problem with this board loading slowly and showing like this first, but we're talking a matter of less than a minute or two before everything showed up. This, sadly, seems to be relatively permanent. I can go in and look at the McAfee stuff, Yuliya, but as most of the things are default settings that I haven't messed with, I don't know if I'd even recognize anything if I saw it. What I really hate is when I change something on my computer because I've stumbled on to the area, then can't figure out where to go back and undo it. Please tell me I'm not the only one who ever does that. cg
