OK, since I've noticed this board has plenty of pop up ads (as does the rest of the net) I thought I'd share a pop-up ad zapper. It's a simple free program POW I downloaded. You can download it from me: members.surfbest.net/picac@surfbest.net/POWPOP.EXEThe instructions how to use it are pretty simply and are attached to the program (basically open the program it will run in your browser and you can open it and click on any window you want zapped and it will remember it next the time). Frightening it keeps track of how many pop-ups it's killed and my counter is over 8,000 over the last few weeks. EEK! Oh just found the original link www.analogx.comAce

Wowza. Fortunately, my McAfee Internet Security takes care of those to begin with, but I'm sure lots of folks will be happy to have the other ad zapper. They are a royal pain. (The ads, not the other folks.) cg

LOL! Hmm, how does the McAfee distingush between what you want to pop up though and what you don't? Honestly, they've become such a royal pain over the last year, they never used to be this bad, then again the internet used to a freer place pre rotten economy. Ace

Basically, if you know you want the pop-up, you can use the control key to override the pop-up killer. It doesn't happen often, though, and it sure is nice to have most of them shut down before they open up. cg

Oh, that's brilliant! Thank you! I was really getting frustrated with those pop-ups. Glad there's a way to get rid of them.

Oh yes, those pop up ads are a real pain. Part of the problem with my computer is that the pop-ups slow it down and confuse the thing. It's a Gateway, so I'm sure that has something to do with the pc's lack of cooperation. Sometime ago I had installed one of those pop-up stopper programs and it stopped ALL pop-ups, including new windows when I'd click on links. I had to remove the pop-up detector. I'm going to try the above program link and see how it works for me. Keeping my fingers crossed. I've installed it.....and so far.....everything seems to be working the way I want it to. Hooray! Thanks so much for the tip and the link.

I deleted the pop up killer program because I've been alerted it might have been affected with a virus. I suggest everyone who downloaded it use a virus scan to find and clean and/or delete it. Yuliya sent me this URL for a virus finder/cleaner and it's free. housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.aspSorry to anyone if it was indeed infected. Ace

Oh yeah, it's a great thing. I love it. So far, I've only had a problem with one site - this one. Here I got two pop-ups for the price of one - the usual pop-up and its cry for help saying if I don't disable the pop-up killer, I'll never see my beloved pop-ups, ever. Not that I wanted to see them but having to kill two windows where one used to be was so annoying that I had to enable pop-ups for this board. It was easy, though - just one click.

Yep. It's fairly easy to use. I just hope nobody will have problems with it, and if so, I hope they'll blame google.

How do you like it otherwise? I saw it somewhere, but I forget why I decided not to try it (the Google toolbar).

Otherwise, I've used it for several weeks and haven't had a single problem with it. It installed itself, it blocks pop-ups by iteslf, it's very modestly sists where it belongs and doesn't bother me, only shows the increasing number of pop-ups it's blocked by now to remind me of its hard work. When I need to unblock pop-ups on a site, all I have to do is click on one button - and voila! But so far, I only had to do it on two sites; this one, for reasons I explained above, and www.tvguide.com - because there a pop-up was actually a search window, they don't display advertising pop-ups.

Oh, yeah - I have a pop-up blocker in my McAfee, and I have to turn it off for TV guide and a couple of other sites. Kind of a pain, but it does well otherwise and deletes a lot of banner ads, too. Trade-offs.
