I've just read the following post over at the Mysterynet RS Boards: Fr: Carey Ann Strelecki
A documentary is being prepared about Season 1 of Remington Steele. As fans of the series, your special insight to the show could be helpful in determining interest in particular topics for questions to ask the creators/actors of Remington Steele, regarding season 1 and the genesis of the show. Are there any particular topics, episodes, plot points or burning questions you have regarding Season One? The poster's e mail is careyann@dslextreme.com I did a quick spot of research and found a Carey Ann Strelecki with producing and writing credits on imdb and also a web page listing her bio at Global Brainstorm Research and Production. www.globalbrainstorm.com/bios.htmlI emailed her and asked if this request was related to the rumored release of RS on DVD and if she could give some information on the production. I can't swear that this query is legit, but this person does appear to have a track record. I'll keep everyone posted on her reply. My, oh my! Question Time on my everlovin' favorite season! Sounds too good to be true, eh? I'm thinking, I'm thinking... what's in my top ten, and what can I get away with, LOL!

Oh one would think it would have to be about the DVD release. I can't see PBS or even TVLand commissioning it. Very interesting. Ace

Technically, I suppose. It sounds (if this is legit) like they may want to be a bit cagey about the whole DVD enterprise, but the fact that it's centered on a single season is a dead giveaway, even though this Global Brainstorm outfit has done docs for TBS, PBS, TLC, History Channel, et. al. It certainly has my interest piqued.

Well those DVD features often refer to themselves as "documentaries" don't they? And yes the fact that it centers on only season, screams DVD to me.
I gather some topics of interest will be with the casting and then the development from the original idea of a behind the scenes Remington Steele to a co-star on the show and how the show went from a concept of a triangle with Murphy to a pretty lopsided duo, and a duo that was then heavily slanted toward the one party that wasn't even suppossed to originally exist.
Season One aside from the content is almost TV Show 101 on how a show can morph and evolve via chemistry and star power from an original concept.
James Read said in an article that it was fairly evident to him from early on that his character wasn't going to survive Season One.

It is encouraging that they apparently are gathering questions in fan quarters (though I hope they don’t peruse Mysterynet too closely, LOL!) The fan community will drive sales and certainly as a focus group they are more likely to deviate in their coverage from the standard PR puffery / know nothing-ness that we’re often served up by studios and press. I know mine will without half trying. <wink>
Ah, the ripples in the space-time continuum when one has a break-out star..
I’d be interested in not only the changing emphasis as regards the characters by the season’s end, but the about-face in terms of style, with Glenn Caron’s departure and the migration, to some conceptual degree, of that screwball energy and rhythm from RS to Moonlighting. What went on behind closed doors that brought us to season two and a more standard romance / mystery playbook? And how did the lead actors and the writers feel about it? There was always the theory floated that the producers (besides wanting to focus romantically on Laura and Steele) wanted to court the audiences of shows like SMK and Hart to Hart.
Marginally better than the prospects of an actor wearing Star Fleet Security red, but nothing to bet the mortgage on. He probably checked the scripts every week to see if he got a job offer from the coroner’s office, fell in love with a snake charmer from far-off Bangalore, developed a rare immune deficiency that required isolation in a hyperbaric chamber – or maybe, he’d just get hit by a bus. One way ticket to Denver, I shouldda known!

How intriguing... I'd also like them to tell more about the original show concept, its evolution, what was rumors and what was really meant to be done - like whether it was originally going to be a Remington Steele in person and such. I really see no harm in emailing that person, even if the inquiry isn't legit. What are you risking? It's not like you're sending her your credit card number and bank account, just a few sentences. Ladies, are you going to email or just discuss it here?

I wonder if anyone wrote to Ms. Strelecki. And those who did - I wonder if she ever replied in any manner - say, a brief "thank you for sharing" or "thank you for your help" email.

I never got a reply, originally, from the mysterious Ms. S. Maybe she thought I wasn't on a need to know basis, LOL! (I did ask some questions about the production, trying to get a line on whether it was for the DVD release.) Still, as Mr. Steele's mater says, "it never hurts to ask."
After this gentle reminder, YS, I came up with about 30 questions I'm prepared to send, some just out of rampant curiosity
Who came up with Laura’s “Try this for a deep, dark secret” voice-over and the accompanying montage? Whose idea were all the photos hanging on the office wall?
Did the producers / writers ever consider letting Steele and Laura get horizontal (i.e. have sex) during the first season? If so, was there a particular episode or episodes where the idea was entertained?
Describe the usual atmosphere on the set in those early days. Did PB, SZ, and the gang come to work prepared? On the fly? Tanned, rested, and ready? Hung over? Bickering? Grinding their teeth? Six of one, half a dozen of the other? Any pranks or practical jokes to share?
some that I hoped might be revealing
Were there instances where Brosnan or Zimbalist balked at something in the script that Steele or Laura just “would not do” or would do differently? If so, was it left in or changed? How often were there “creative differences” with the actors? How stubborn and vocal were they about their characters? Examples?
and some just for fun
The first season is a textbook case for all sorts of defining little touches we never get in later ones. For instance, what happened to all of those briefcase carrying extras that used to roam the halls outside the office? Were they victims of network downsizing? Did they insist on their own parking space? Do they all have jobs on The West Wing now?
The point is, anyone can play, this stuff is second nature, and any questions sent will indicate fan interest. I believe that her request was legit (she does have an industry resume -- perhaps things are behind schedule). We'll never know one way or the other unless we try, so why not give it a whirl?

Great questions! Wouldn't it be cool if at least some of them were ever answered?! I also emailed Ms. Strelski, which is why I wondered if anyone had heard back from her. I did expect a perfunctory thank-you - I do it with this who emails me about my site, it's not that hard. Let's hope she's too busy answering those questions. (Yeah, well, a girl can dream, can't she?)

Great questions! Wouldn't it be cool if at least some of them were ever answered?! Depending on the question, I'd either die of pride or have the good grace to be embarrassed for asking, LOL! I e mailed my queries in today. Anyone else besides me and YS? I'll admit it crossed my mind more than once that the recipient might consider me seriously obsessed (first season does it to me every time) which is why I'd like some company, LOL! After posting about this on the Steelewatchers list and RS Fic (to a resounding thud of complete disinterest) that began to seem like a rather forlorn hope. Even if this doesn't pan out, that is, we never hear a peep from anyone out there in DVD Land, we could always pool our questions together and answer them ourselves, in whatever shape or form we'd find the most amusing. Waste not, want not, I always say.
