Ace, we're going into the butterfly effect. He might've had a wondeful career without the financial and emotional baggage of his wife and her two children, but he might have not. He might've fallen in love with another woman who would have said, "Darling, how can you go to America now? They make movies here, as well, surely you can find a job. What about theater? What about my career? Alone? Are you going to leave me? " And he might've stayed for just another year... Or might not have. It's alternative reality; we don't know. All I'm saying is in the career that he did have Cassie did play an important role, and was a lot more supporting than him any other girlfriend I've read about. And he did shape his career in many ways, and probably not only the career but the character as well. And before feeling sorry for his other girlfriends one may want to remember that.

Didn't Cassie say to Zimbalist that Remington Steele was just a stepping stone in her husbands career. She must have got that from page 1 of "How to p*ss off a co-star of a show without really trying" Valeri Petrofsky

Even though I'm a bit late with this I'd like to second Ace on her observation on PB's pre-Remington roles such as Manions. He looked absolutely gorgeous in those days, too. His features, though less chiseled than they became later, were those of a leading man. And I maintain that his teeth were not as bad either because you can see him smile and show his teeth in Manions, and I don't remember being shocked at the sight of them.

Maybe the tooth wasn’t black; I think it was just pushed-in, putting it in shadow. Crooked teeth run in my family and we have plenty of pictures of ourselves like this, growing up. (Braces at the advanced age of 26 fixed it for me.) Got a related PB/dentist story for you: My hygienist and I have become fast friends over the years. One day I came in for a scheduled cleaning and she spoke of all the business the office was getting from men lately, for cosmetic work. I said yeah, all the male stars in Hollywood had something done, you should have seen Pierce Brosnan before he ..… she abruptly cut me off! With menace in her face she warned me not to say anything against Pierce Brosnan. (She might have even pointed a sharp instrument at me, too.) “Calm down,” I said, “I’m one of you!” We spent the rest of the appointment gushing over him. So I sent her a color printout, the one from "Pierce Brosnan Pictures", which is pierce.2see.de, mitglied.lycos.de/pbp2/goldeneye/003.jpgThis pic is almost life-sized, where he is gazing up into the night sky with wide open mouth, and you can see every single tooth in the upper row - every metal filling, cap, inlay, etc, not to mention beautifully healthy gums. (Sorry, PB, getting so personal here.) She tapes it to her dentist-chair’s headrest, and says it’s as close as she’ll ever get to professional heaven. P.S. I think its adorable how his bottom teeth are still crooked. -IcyCalm

And Lauryn I LOVE that quote about Tenessee Williams. It shows young PB as pragmatic, accepting, starry eyed, and prideful all in one shot. Ace It helps that the interviewer, Lawrence Grobel, is an experienced hand at getting actors to open up, but that quote does give you a lot, doesn't it? It's wonderfully encapsulating of all the things you mention, and I just adore the spirit of it, always have. Glad to be able to slip it into the conversation.

Good grief, if he had to lose weight to get the Remington Steele part, he lost too much. I always thought he was too thin in the first two seasons. I've seen his earlier films and he certainly wasn't a heavy-weight. He was always tall and thin to me. Yes, I noticed his upper teeth were fixed but his lower teeth are crooked. Adds a bit of *average guy* to that gorgeous face. On Remington Steele, the hair did look dark, but I just assumed it was the heavy gel and hair spray used that made it appear so. I wouldn't consider having teeth capped as plastic surgery, just elaborate dental work.
