Speaking of the Olympics - and we were, weren't we? ;-) - wouldn't it be fun to write a RS story about R and L attending the Con-Artist Olympics? Couldn't you just imagine the events they'd have? Wall scaling...pole vaulting over walls/electric fences...lock picking...safe cracking...being chased by police dogs through an obstacle course...tightrope/balance beam walking between tall buildings...The Snatch and Hide, where contestants beat the clock locating a hidden object and then hiding it where it can't be found by the next contestant...Mattress Flying...Stolen Object Transfer Motorcycle Relay...the Bus vs. Small Plane Chicken Race...Pickpocket Face-off, where 2 contestants see who can be first to pick the other's pocket...'Mud Wrestling in Wedding Attire'... Running-in-Heels Relay...The Flirt and Snatch...Combination Cave Escape Swim/Beach Tackle...Trellis Climbing... Little Green Monsters 'Hide and Seek' Obstacle Course...the Reverse Jailbreak Race...the Poisonous Snake Treasure Snatch...the Bulldozer Car Smash Gymnastics...the Red Hot Creamation Side-to-Side Relay...the Irish Trap Obstacle Course Race...Gravedigging by Moonlight...the Hot Acid Key Retrieval...the Underwater Sewer Relay...the Basic Black Working Clothes/Tuxedo Switcheroo Relay...the Classic Car Running Board Relay...Balcony Jumping...Golf Cart Driver Wrestling...the 'Teaching the Road a Lesson It Won't Soon Forget' 500...
The possibilities are endless! Anyone else want to play?

Interesting but wouldn't many of these be part of the Shamus/Private Eye Olympics? For example, I can't ever recall Steele running in high heels. Ace

Steele wouldn't of course, but Felicia might. I'd say running in high heels and cooking with long nails should be a part of the Con-Artist Olympics - why not, even in conventional Olympics men and women sometimes perform different tasks. That said, I agree with Ace - my first thought was that some events don't belong. I like Ace's idea about Spe-Shamus Olympics, but I'd say 'Mud Wrestling in Wedding Attire' is hardly a run of the mill event for most PIs, either. The idea certainly has potential. Please, consider my latest story a preparation for the Olympics. Thus, being on the Olympic Committee, I withdraw my candidature from participation in the competition.

Felicia might if caught in a bind but I'd rather suspect she dressed appropriately if she had planned to take flight and move swiftly. Let's face it the only reason Laura wore high heels so often was because SZ was too short to be in a head shot with PB just wearing flats. Ace

I don't recall Judy Dench wearing stiletto heels. Laura was *not* too short and wore heels because they look good and generally are more stylish than flats. Felicia will definitely dress appropriately but for a confidence woman wearing high heels and then having to run may be an occupational harard, so she should posess the skill. Of course, a good con artist should never have to run... But they should still be quick on their feet, even when they're wearing high heels...

No Dame Judi often stands on a BOX in close-ups of them both, one she's admitted she usually forgets about and falls off. Just as Salma can be seen standing on a RAMP when thye're having an intimate conversation in After The Sunset. It's just easier on the cameras and part of the magic and logistics of film making.
Steele was on TV and there that's rarely done. They don't have the time for those set ups and besides SZ was always moving around a lot and there were a lot of shots of them just talking in closeup, or talking as they walked side by side, many where they wanted both faces large and in the screen. You do that and the shorter person has to be standing on a box, standing on a ramp or wearing HIGH heels even when her job is mostly leg work as was Laura's. Or the taller person has to be seated or leaning against a wall or desk etc or both. But considerations of height and camera shots are always in play.
Julianne Moore said one of the first thoughts that came to mind when she met PB was that he was taller than she thought and it was going to affect her wardrobe! AKA... high heeled shoes.

Believe it or not, I know women who wear high heels all day long and feel comfortable. And yes, I know Dame Judy rules her world from a box, that's why I mentioned her. Maybe it's impossible to do in TV series but height was never a problem when Laura wore break-in clothes or some other outfit that required flats. SZ's height was probably taken in consideration. but I'm sure they had other things to consider - like that heels worked better with Laura's businesswoman image.

Believe it or not most women I know would gladly burn all their high heeled shoes if they could and like nothing better than to slip them off as soon as they're out of work, sometimes before. And even then they're not that high heeled. If Laura wanted a nice heeled dress shoes she could have gone for an 1 inch 1/2. 3+ inch heels aren't for 90% of women who are on their feet all day and really not for those who sometimes need to take chase in them. And it's not as if the camerman spent alot of time looking down at her feet or even showing her legs in those shoesm so they were there for more than cosmetic reasons. I think the height difference is really magnified when they're both in casual work clothes but it was hard to get around that because Laura would have looked ridiculous wearing stillettos while donning her cat burglar black. I've seen stilettos on women in action movies, but I'm blanking on titles - rightfully so, I might add; there was time when I used to watch a lot of junk. I easily believe you most women loathe heels; I do go out, you know. And my friend who wears heels seldom considers shoes under $100 a pair - in general, those are more comfortable, I hear. 3" heels is too much, of course, but those Laura's shoes that made close-ups were 1.5-2", which is not out of the question for quite many women. I just don't think Laura would have looked right in her wardrobe and no heels and I don't think she would ahve looked right in the wardrobe that required no heels at all. SZ might have complained about heels but apparently she wasn't as opposed to them as Sybil Sheperd who, I heard, didn't wear them unless she had to, which is why she's seen in tennis shoes in some scene where she's not supposed to wear them.

Expensive shoes hurt too after awhile. Most of what I recall of Laura's shoes are higher than 2 inches but to be absolutely truthfull I spend most of my time watching RS looking at other things. As for SZ complaining, probably wouldn't have mattered, unlike Cybil she wasn't as tall or taller than her co-star. Not to mention I hear Cybill was way more scary, it was probably easier to give her what she wanted. ;D Ace
