‘Cinderella’: Pierce Brosnan Joins Latest Film Adaptation From Sony
Pierce Brosnan is heading to a land far, far away for the upcoming Kay Cannon-helmed adaptation of Cinderella, Deadline has confirmed. The former 007 actor has been cast alongside Camila Cabello, who will take on the titular role, as well as Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, and Nicholas Galitzine, who Deadline recently reported landed in the role of Prince Robert.
Brosnan will play the King and father to Prince Robert.
The musical comedy re-imagines the traditional Cinderella story in which our heroine is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow.
James Corden and Leo Pearlman are producing the pic through their Fulwell73 label with Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh. Louise Rosner serves as executive producer. Sony will release the film on February 5, 2021.
Pierce Brosnan will play the king opposite Camila Cabello in writer-director Kay Cannon’s new telling of “Cinderella” for Sony Pictures.
Billy Porter, Idina Menzel and Nicholas Galitzine are also confirmed to star in the film, which will be released in theaters Feb. 5, 2021. Cabello, a multi-platinum selling and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, will be integrally involved in the music. “Cinderella” marks her acting debut.

The movie is being produced by James Corden and Leo Pearlman through their Fulwell73 banner along with Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh, who exec produced “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Louise Rosner serves as executive producer on “Cinderella.”
Based on the fairy tale “Cendrillon” by Charles Perrault, the story of a poor young orphan woman and her fairy godmother was the basis for Disney’s 1950 animated drama “Cinderella.” That film spawned two live-action remakes: 1997’s iteration starring Brandy and Whitney Houston and Kenneth Branagh’s 2015 version with Lily James. The latter grossed $543 million worldwide.

Sony’s ‘Cinderella’ Heads to Amazon, Bypassing Theaters
The live-action musical adaptation of the classic tale — starring Camila Cabello — is the latest studio pic to launch on a streamer as the fallout from the pandemic continues. Sony's 'Cinderella' to Debut on Amazon, Bypassing Theaters | THR News The live-action musical adaptation of the classic tale — starring Camila Cabello — is the latest studio pic to launch on a streamer as the fallout from the pandemic continues.
Sony’s live-action musical adaptation of Cinderella will bypass a theatrical run, opting instead to debut on Amazon Prime, sources confirm.
A release later this year is planned.
The film is the latest major studio film to launch on a streamer amid the ongoing fallout from the pandemic. With the box office back and running, this summer’s theatrical release calendar is particularly crowded when it comes to family fare.
Cinderella was set to dance its way on the big screen in June.
Directed by Kay Cannon (Blockers) from her screenplay and with a story by James Corden and produced by Corden, Cinderella stars Camila Cabello in the title role, alongside Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Pierce Brosnan, Minnie Driver and Missy Elliott. Corden, whose London-based banner Fulwell 73 (The Late Late Show) is producing together with Jonathan Kadin, also stars.
Throughout the pandemic, Sony has sold off a number of its movies to streamers.
The studio will reserve certain licensing rights to Cinderella, similar to other deals it has structured.

Amazon Eyes Fall Release Date For Its Camila Cabello ‘Cinderella’ Acquisition; See First-Look Photos
UPDATED with first-look photos: Amazon’s recent pickup of Sony’s Camila Cabello musical movie Cinderella will hit the streamer this fall in 240 countries. The news of the likely landing spot for the pic came as the streamer released the first looks at the Kay Cannon-directed film.
As Deadline first told you last week, Sony decided to license worldwide (sans China) to Amazon instead of going with a summer theatrical release. Many reasons I heard for the sale, one being the continued closure of Latin American box office markets due the pandemic (except for Mexico), and I heard the streamer was mad for the movie that stars Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine and Pierce Brosnan.
“Cinderella is a classic we all know and love, but this time with a modern unique twist and starring the sensational Camila Cabello and an all-star cast. Producer James Corden and the filmmaking team have taken this beloved fairytale and revamped it with a fresh, empowering perspective that will resonate with audiences and families around the world. We couldn’t be more excited for our global customers to sing and dance along to director Kay Cannon’s reimagination of this classic story,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios.
Pic was also written by Cannon. Producers are Leo Pearlman, James Corden, Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh, and EPs are Louise Rosner and Josephine Rose.
Note that even though Amazon drops movies on Prime, they also give them a limited theatrical release during their debut weekends on the service.

Might be some "spoilery" talk in these interviews about some scenes Pierce is in, but nothing to really ruin the film.

Pierce Brosnan on how new ‘Cinderella’ updates the story
Pierce Brosnan tells Daily News how his new ‘Cinderella’ movie reflects ‘the times we’re in now’
For Pierce Brosnan, the new “Cinderella” movie fits modern society like a glass slipper.
The film offers a fresh retelling of the timeless fairy tale with a diverse cast featuring singer Camila Cabello in the title role.
“We’ve seen many iterations of it over the years, very fine productions, but I think (writer-director) Kay Cannon really nailed it well, embroidered it well, to the times that we’re in now and for the empowerment of young women, and women, and the voices that need to be heard,” Brosnan told the Daily News.
The musical comedy, out Friday on Amazon Prime Video, stars Brosnan as King Rowan, a ruler beholden to tradition who pressures his son, Prince Robert, to marry a worthy suitor and one day take over his throne.
Robert becomes enamored by Cinderella, an underestimated aspiring dress designer who prioritizes her career dreams over marrying into royalty.
Brosnan, 68, describes his character as “this self-centered, nonchalant, egocentric man who is clinging onto his kingdom and wants more, and really will just sell his son off to anyone.”
“Doing so, of course, really cleaves a wedge in the heart of his wife, his queen,” Brosnan explained. “It was lots of wonderful emblems of drama and theatricality to play out.”
Many elements of the original fairy tale are included throughout the movie, with Idina Menzel portraying Cinderella’s oppressive stepmother, and with a key plot point involving Cabello’s character attending a ball with a midnight curfew.
But the film is filled with timely updates, from a soundtrack with songs by Ed Sheeran and Jennifer Lopez, to Billy Porter portraying Cinderella’s fairy godparent, known as Fab G.
“Cinderella” marks the acting debut for Cabello, the Cuban-born pop star known for the hits “Havana,” “Señorita” and “Don’t Go Yet.”
Brosnan praised Cabello, 24, as a talented performer who “connects well with her generation.”
“She is just very strong,” Brosnan said. “She knows who she is, and there’s also a vulnerability there, which is very intriguing and captivating. She just has a great talent and she loves what she does. She takes center stage with sincerity and passion, and a star is born. She was already and is a fantastic singer and writer, so she’s the real deal when it comes to playing Cinderella.”
The movie also served as a reunion for Brosnan, who portrayed James Bond in four of the spy franchise’s movies, and Minnie Driver, whose films with the Irish actor include 1995′s “GoldenEye.”
Driver stars in “Cinderella” as Queen Beatrice, the wife of King Rowan who holds him accountable when he gets too stuck in his ways.
Brosnan said “the joy of reconnecting with Minnie” was one of the highlights of making the movie, as was crooning a “rather endearing” song to her character after King Rowan messes up.
“There was a lovely friendship to renew,” Brosnan said. “I suppose being on the horse and trying to sing to Minnie, and trying to be as funny as possible but as truthful as possible at the same time.”
The actor found it powerful to apply present-day sensibilities to the centuries-old story.
“It has a heartbeat of humanity,” Brosnan said of the film, “that kind of rings true to everyone.”
