Variety: Brosnan to turn Wise novel into film Actor to co-produce, star in 'Biazarro'
By MICHAEL FLEMING Pierce Brosnan has teamed with Maloof Motion Pictures to turn Leonard Wise novel "The Big Biazarro" into a starring vehicle for himself.
Pic will be scripted and directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall.
Brosnan and Irish DreamTime partner Beau St. Clair will produce along with MMP's Phil Maloof and Andrew Jameson. MMP is financing development.
Drama is set in the high-stakes world of international gambling, and Brosnan will play an elusive veteran card player who mentors a headstrong but talented protege.
Curtis-Hall recently helmed episodes of "Sleeper Cell" and "The Shield."
Pic will be the second for MMP, which was hatched by the Maloof family, owners of the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and the NBA's Sacramento Kings. After debuting with the Project Greenlight-generated genre film "Feast," they are ready to put more chips on the table to finance and produce films. Jameson, who runs MMP for the Maloof clan, was introduced to the project by St. Clair when their offices were in the same Santa Monica building.
"We want to get more active, and this project is a perfect fit," said Jameson. "Our plan is to be instrumental in the development of a project and, once we get a script and a star, involve a distribution partner."
Brosnan's Irish DreamTime was productive while he toplined the 007 films, producing such pics as "The Matador," and "Butterfly on a Wheel," an upcoming dark thriller in which Brosnan stars with Maria Bello and Gerard Butler.
Brosnan said the goal is to become more prolific. Irish DreamTime is currently developing a sequel to "The Thomas Crown Affair," among other projects.
"When you have a role like Bond, it becomes your life, and the time always went quickly between films," he said. "We managed to make six films over the last 10 years, but with Bond no longer in my life, it allows me more time and choices, and the chance to be adventuresome. I've been in all our projects so far, and I'd like to try just being the producer on some of these projects."

another bond lite role for Brosnan.Film sound like a cross between Color of Money and abit of Casino Royale (international poker game). However this sound better then Spy vs Stu.I want him to do TCA2 as soon as possible with a knock out director.

It doesn't sound anything like Bond. Bond is not poker no matter what Casino Royale had him playing -- not real Bond, that's not his game (that bridge and baccarat) and besides there the game is for something else it's not about the game itself. Not everything is about Bond -- in fact not much is with him any more. He's going to be in films that have at least a couple of the following things -- women, guns, suits, cars, cards, suspense, locations etc -- it doesn't make it Bond it makes it a film.

I know Phil Maloof. Want me to give him a call and see if there's any further information that can be let out to the public?

Ah Judith -- you're a temptress. That would be nice. Bascially I'd like to know how far they are in the process -- what date are they aiming for to start?

This movie reminds me of "The Color of Money," which started Tom Cruise (when he was sane) and Paul Newman. I believe that film FINALLY got Paul Newman his Oscar. Maybe it will do the same for Pierce.
Love...B

His original performance of the character in The Hustler was better (in a great film) and he should have won for maybe his best performance ever in The Verdict 4 years earlier. Ace

I always thought that it wasn't the actual performance in the movie, but the fact that Paul Newman was due for an award. The storylines do sound very similar however. Personally I haven't even heard of the book The Big Biazarro, much less actually read it, but I do like the idea of Pierce playing the mentor role. Depending on what actor they get to play the younger student, it could actually end up being a favorite of mine. I just wonder if it will be more along the grittier lines of another gambling/thief movie that I really loved called The Good Thief staring Nick Nolte, or if it will be more like the glossed over made-for cable type version of Shade, staring another Irish favorite of mine named Gabriel Byrne. Part of me wants a glossed over Thomas Crown type film, but the other part wants a gritter The Good Thief type film. Either way, this one sounds very interesting. Ellen

Sean got good reviews in Romeo and Juliet, so maybe he's up to the challenge of doing a movie with his Dad now. Oh well, just a thought. Having not read the book, I don't even know what age the student is supposed to be, but it would be neat to see them in a film together. Ellen

Wouldn't it be cool if they got his son Sean to do it?! It would be great to see the two of them together in a film. In my opinion they're going to do it sooner or later and now that Sean is moving back to LA it would be really possible. I also think that Sean could be the right choice for that role because he would be a student that really looks like his mentor in the way he moves and talks.

I think Sean has to become more established -- spread his wings on his own for a while longer -- make a couple of higher profile films in supporting roles etc. Otherwise the performance and his career will be judged in terms of nepotism and not on it's own terms which he seems to very much want.

After giving it more thought, it probably wouldn't look right if he mentored someone who looks just like him anyway. LOL! OK then, how about Jared Leto, Christian Bale, Colin Farrell ( ducking, as I know how much you all like him) or that other really hot Irish actor named Cillian Murphy. Wow, I'm excited about this project! I hope they give out more details soon. If not, I may have to go see if I can check the book out at the library. Ellen

At least since Pierce has his own production company, they might have a better chance of finding a project they both really want to do. Ellen

From the NYC Seraphim Falls Junket:
What about The Big Biazarro?
"Oh, that's just one of those announcements in the trades, you know. That's a work in progress. We've got the book, we've optioned the book by Leonard Wise. It's been around a long time. It's a mentoring film, with the backdrop of poker. We're working on it.
=============================================
It doesn't sound like it's starting any time soon.

He could be vague because the director is still writing the script, it probably will be a while before 'in development' is starts. At least it has a year it'll be released, 2009 doesn't seem that far away.

starcasm.net/archives/172075REPORT Adrienne Maloof working on spin-off for NBC Adrienne Maloof has her hands full these days. Although she wrapped filming on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 3 a few weeks ago, she’s busy adjusting to life as a single, working mommy of three boys. As you probably already know, she and her husband Dr. Paul Nassif have separated. Now, Adrienne is adding one more thing to her to-do list: a potential spin-off show! According to Radar Online, Adrienne and her family are in talks with NBC, Bravo’s mother station, for a new reality show. “The show is in the works and it will focus on Adrienne and her brothers and the Maloof family business. The show is in the early planning stages but it will be a competition-style reality show based around family businesses,” the source says. The Maloof empire includes ownership of the Sacramento Kings and The Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. They recently expanded their businesses with the launch of Maloof Music, which is currently working with Ali Lohan, and Maloof Productions. Their production company produced the 2006 film Feast and is currently working on The Big Biazarro, starring Pierce Brosnan. In other words, this family is pretty darn busy. There were recent rumors of the Maloof empire running into some serious financial difficulties, including reports that they sold off most all of their stake in the Palms Resort and Casino as well as the family-owned beer distributorship. (You can read all about that here as well as a timeline showing how the Maloof empire came to be, beginning with the acquisition of a Coors distributorship in 1937.) The Maloof’s new show will be much different than Real Housewives of Beverly Hills meaning less legal drama (at lease we hope) and booze-induced breakdowns. “The new show will not be a catty fight fest, but will focus on finding new businesses,” the source says. ”Everyone is very excited about the possible new show and the network believes in the Maloof brand of luxury, business, family and hard work ethics.” Of course, we have to remember that this is Radar Online with a “source” reporting on Adrienne Maloof. That combination hasn’t had too great of a track record of late as far as accuracy goes. Adrienne isn’t the first Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star to land her own show. Cast mate Lisa Vanderpump’s new show SUR was recently announced as part of Bravo’s line-up. No word on a premiere date for either housewife’s show. Wow! Would be too good to be true...
