And yes I know it's politically incorrect and unhealthy but damn the man really knows how to smoke on screen. So well that his use of cigarettes in celluloid should probably call for it's own special warning. Ace Just catching up here, so be patient with me. I've watched a few online clips of this film and from what I gather, the setting appears to be the 1940s. So in reference to PB's smoking onscreen, heck, back then it wasn't politically anything, it was the norm. Have you ever seen what Paul Henried did with cigarettes in "Now, Voyager!"? Man, it's legendary. In the clips, I could see RS all over PB, including the way he held the cigarette - it was an RS mannerism! I had no idea Patricia Clahkson was in the movie with PB. OMG, that makes me just three degrees from Pierce! I guess it's three. Or is it two? PB to PC to Myrtle. I've known PC's family for years and years. No I didn't spell her name incorrectly, that's the way her mom always says her name, "Jackie Clahkson", so we do so in turn, too. ;D She's a riot. I checked the movie's theatre site and it says it's only playing in one town in New Hampshire.... a bit too far of a drive for me just to see a movie. So the DVD isn't out yet? Is the street date still Sept. 2nd?

So cool that you know PC's family. Henried & Davis smoking in Now Voyager is one of the sexiest scenes of all time, and sans any touching. There's a reason was seen as seductive and sexy and that scene exemplifies it. So yes, PB's smoking is completely historically accurate. Sept 2nd is still the release date.

I just saw Married Life on my Delta flight returning from Cardiff to the U.S. It is a MAGNIFICENT film -- easily one of my top faves. It looks like Delta has been playing it July 15-30. I don't know if they'll continue into August. It was one of the "personal viewing" movies that I had to pay for $6 for -- well worth it. I watched it 3 times -- then we landed and they made me get off of the plane

Did you have to pay $6 each time you watched? Nope -- you just pay once and then you can watch it as many times as you like -- or until they make you get off of the plane

What gorgeous photos!
It is a downer that so few got to see "Married Life" at the movies. On my end, it came to the Landmark in New Orleans for about a week and I wasn't able to make the trip over. Then it vanished.
Funny how they're really pushing the cable show "Mad Men" which, like ML, is from the three martini lunch era, just bumped up to the early 60's. Maybe all the "Mad Men" Emmy noms will create a vogue for the era and cause a few more viewers to check out ML on DVD. I haven't really seen that much evidence that "Mad Men" is catching on, though. It seems like more of a creation of the studio and some critics' next-big-thing hype. Of course TV audiences are so fragmented now it's harder to tell when something is turning into a water cooler phenom. Some say it's more a triumph of costuming and set design, recreating the era, than an involving drama, but I haven't seen it. Has anyone else?

Thanks, Ace. I was able to take advantage of this great price.
I did see this movie on the big screen and really enjoyed it. I wanted to go back the next week and see it again but it was gone. Now I will have to be satisfied with the small screen at home.

I'm trying to figure out what to buy with it for free shipping, but if I wait too long I'll probably end up paying more for the DVD than the shipping would have cost. Hmmmmm.... I wonder if it's too early to think about X-Mas shopping.

Shipping was only 2.98 for ground. I have had various experiences preordering movies. Sometimes they are actually delivered the day of the release, which indicates to me that the vendor is shipping early. Once I had a really bad experience where it did not come for several days then when it arrived it was faulty and had to be returned. It was quite a while until I actually got to watch the movie that I could have picked up at a local store on the release date and saved myself a lot of aggrivation.

The DVD Talk review deals with Blu-ray but the content is the same on regular DVD, 4/5 stars www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/34393/married-life/Excerpt:Conclusion: Married Life grabs an armful of different genres off the shelf -- romance, dark comedy, melodrama, noir, and suspense -- and deftly juggles them all. Sharply written and perfectly cast, Married Life never once leans on its period setting as a gimmick or whips out random plot twists just to keep the audience off-guard. Its characters are bright, complex, and at least somewhat richly drawn, not just scuffed pawns shuffled around the board because that's what's spelled out in the script. Married Life is a movie worth discovering on Blu-ray, especially considering how wonderful this high definition presentation looks and sounds. The only downside is the lean set of extras, but an above-average commentary and an intriguing look into how drastically a movie can be reshaped during editing help set this Blu-ray disc apart from the rest of the lot. Highly Recommended.

I just watched this film last week. It was very interesting and quite strange at the same time. I liked the ending as it is, although overall I would have loved to see more scenes between Richard and Kay. The alternate endings were rather odd, but I liked the first one ending with the courtroom scene because the conclusion of the film with Richard and Kay was very sweet. Wished there was a featurette with the main stars and that the film should be a bit longer. As always, Pierce looks fabulous in the suits!
