Ace, where did you find this article? I've always been concerned with environmental issues and this is one more thing that drew me to PB. I'm so glad to see that he is continuing to support this very important cause!

It was on Yahoo Photos hence just the blurb and not a full blown article about the actual signing of the bill.
I just realized this should have been in "PB: Out and About" oh well....

Just a little more information about the bill: Landmark environmental education bill to become a lawDuring a celebration at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium last Thursday, Gov. Gray Davis signed AB1548, a bill that requires state agencies to develop environmental education principles for elementary and secondary schools. The bill is a result of a year-long fight led by Heal the Bay, in conjunction with National Geographic, Cal-EPA and Assemblymember Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) to incorporate environmental education curriculum into California state schools. In a show of support for the bill, Malibu residents Pierce and Keely Brosnan attended the signing.

www.smmirror.com/volume5/issue17/the_week_that.aspYou can see Pierce and Keely on the right side of the 3rd picture. Excerpt from the article: The four bills Davis signed are designed to protect the environment and improve environmental education. One of the bills was authored by Assembly member Fran Pavely and backed by Heal the Bay. AB 1548 requires state agencies to develop environmental education principles by 2004 and model environmental literacy curriculum by 2006 for elementary and secondary schools. “We have to preserve the wonderful environment God has bestowed upon us,” Davis said. “The past five years I have been proud to defend California’s wonderful environment and to go toe-to-toe with those who want to try and destroy it.” The bill will coordinate and align the state’s approach to environmental education, with minimize fiscal impacts to the state. Heal the Bay’s Executive Director Mark Gold said, “This is a decisive victory for environmental education and the children of California. Now our students will start to learn about how people interact with the world they live in. In short, children will learn how everyday individual choices have an impact on natural resources and human health.” Before the signing ceremony, Davis was shown Heal the Bay’s “touch tank,” talked to Gold and posed for photos with two of the first graders. After Davis and the children played with sea stars, a reporter asked one of them, “Do you know who that man was?” Lucas Juttner, a six-year old from Santa Clarita’s Highlands Elementary, shook his head no. Also at Thursday’s event were actor Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith. Both spoke against the recall and in favor of the environmental bills signed. Brosnan called the bills “watershed legislation” that will “empower future generations. Governor Davis has shown incredible leadership on environmental and education issues.” Smith said, “He has been the best governor for the environment California has ever had.” Questioned about Schwarzenegger, she said, “Arnold has obviously done something that has annoyed a lot of people, and now he has to face the consequences over this. It’s his conscience that’s at stake here and ultimately the state of the election.”I thought Pierce made the remarks about Arnold.
