He updated his letter with this part:
Great news on the environment front. NRDC has won a federal court ruling blocking the U.S. Navy from using mid-frequency sonar during nearly a dozen upcoming training exercises off the southern California coast.
The court concluded it was a "near certainty" that the use of deadly sonar in the upcoming exercises would cause harm to the environment, including to endangered and rare whales that live in southern California's rich waters. The court also called the Navy's proposed protections for whales "woefully inadequate and ineffectual." NRDC is demanding that the Navy take common-sense measures to protect the region's blue whales, migrating gray whales and other marine mammals as it blasts thousands of square nautical miles of ocean with ear-splitting, mid-frequency sound.
The court's injunction is "preliminary," which means that this fight is far from over. Nevertheless, it is a stunning win for our oceans, and it supports our contention that whales should not have to die for military practice. If you'd like more information on this campaign or on the NRDC, click here.
After completing Mamma Mia, I will be taking a much needed holiday on the Italian and French Riveria.
Stay tuned for more movie news!
Love and only love, Pierce

He's expanded his message: January 8, 2007 Dear Friends, Happy New Year and may it be a healthy and prosperous one. The first trailer for "Mamma Mia" is now playing in theaters. It is always a shock to see the work for the first time, even if it is in one-second shots. I hope the pure joy we felt while making the movie shines through. Since the completion of "Mamma Mia" at the end of summer I have been in Hawaii with my family, making the commute back and forth to Los Angeles for various meetings on future projects. We were present for the first onslaught of terrible fires in Southern California, which were vicious in their speed and assault on so many homes. My sincere thanks to each and every firefighter who risked life and limb to save so many of their fellow Californians lives and homes. And to those who lost their world in a matter of minutes, I send my heartfelt prayers as you move on and rebuild. Thomas Crown 2 is in full swing with various location scouts completed in Dubai, Berlin, and Istanbul. Paul Verhoeven is set to direct. Before I set sail with the second installment of TC2..... I'm off to South Africa to make "Vanilla Gorilla," an adventure film about an albino gorilla that has the capacity to speak through sign language. It's the story of a father and daughter who find themselves on an adventure of a lifetime, as they try to restructure their relationship after the loss of their mother / wife. Visit the Gorilla Foundation Website at www.koko.org to find out more about these magnificent animals and in particular “Koko” who learned to speak using sign language. I would like to think that the film, apart from being exciting, funny, and tender, will shed some light on the urgent need for all of us who care about the animal kingdom, to speak out against the senseless slaughter of the great silver backs, the brutal killing of whales, and the mindless butchering of the tigers and elephants. (It is not, mind you, a film that beats you over the head with all of this.) The script has been written by Craig Gardner and Terry Loane, who will direct. Terry, a fellow Irishman from Belfast, has also made a fantastic feature film about two young boys called "Mickybo and Me" you may wish to see. "Vanilla Gorilla" begins production in mid February. "Married Life", an ensemble piece, written and directed by Ira Sachs and starring Christopher Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Patricia Clarkson and myself is due for release March 7th. 2008 is a time for change. May it come with grace and dignity, and above all, peace. Here's to more compassion, hard work and the good times ahead. Love and only love, Pierce

April 22, 2008 Dear Friends, Happy Earth Day. In celebration of Earth Day, I thought it fitting to pay tribute to Fred Krupp and Mariam Horn’s new book, EARTH: The Sequel (The Race to Reinvent Energy and Stop Global Warming). Fred and Mariam’s message is that once effective federal legislation to cap global warming pollution and establish an emissions trading system is passed, the multi-trillion dollar race toward the new energy sector will be unleashed and thus there will be no need for mankind to continue denigrating our environment because of our fierce addiction to fossil fuel. Environmental Defense Fund is a great organization and I urge you to visit their website www.edf.org to learn more. Many of your e-mails have requested a top 10 list of “daily things to do” to promote environmental consciousness. I hope this list inspires you to find a number of ways to protect the planet that are meaningful to you. 1) Eat organic and buy fruits, vegetables, herbs, cheese, eggs, honey and other food products at farmer’s markets which support local farmers and growers. No farms…no food. 2) Use eco-friendly products and services. Purchase all-natural, organic household cleaners, recycled paper products, organic cotton, and non-GMO food products. Locate an organic dry cleaner. Hire an eco-friendly gardening or car service. 3) Recycle everything possible, including printer cartridges, paper products, newspaper, plastic, glass, aluminum cans, cell phones, computers, etc... and cut paper consumption by using e-mail. 4) Give back – support individuals and organizations who are doing extraordinary work for our planet. Over the years The Brosnan Trust has distributed more than one million dollars to environmental organizations, schools, activists, women’s healthcare and various animal and children’s charities. 5) Plant an organic garden or a victory garden– for yourself or a friend and promote green living. 6) Compost kitchen scraps-- from banana peels to coffee grounds, and green waste. Purchase a rotating or stackable composter and start a green waste pile that can be used to fortify your garden naturally. 7) Promote environmental education. We currently fund environmental programs for kindergarten thru grade 12 (Roots and Shoots) in California and helped pass legislation which requires the state of California to design environmental curriculum for all its students. 8) Donate to off set your emissions (plant trees with Tree people; pay a carbon tax when traveling in environmentally sensitive areas, etc). 9) Design an eco friendly home that features energy efficient appliances, low flow and/or composting toilets, state of the art solar technology, recycled grey water, reclaimed hardwoods, and non-toxic paint and building materials. 10) Speak up -- use your voice and speak out about important environmental issues (examples over the past 13 years: stopping BHP’s LNG Terminal off the coast of Oxnard and Malibu, Mitsubishi from building a massive salt factory in Lagoon San Ignacio, protesting the US Navy harming whales with sonar and the French Government’s nuclear testing program in the South Pacific, promoting Dolphin Safe Tuna and supporting the Heritage Tree Bill.) In the words of my dear friend Jane Goodall; “Only if we understand can we care, Only if we care will we help, Only if we help shall all be saved.” One person can and does make a difference. What kind of difference do you want to make? The trailers for Mamma Mia are now playing in theaters. I hope the pure joy we all felt while making the movie shines through. Since the completion of Mamma Mia last fall I have been in Hawaii with my family, making the commute back and forth to Los Angeles and London for various meetings on future projects including the sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair. On this Earth Day, I wish you and yours peace and joy. Pierce

Dear Friends,
Summer is here and so are summer movies... and I just happen to be in one. I attended a screening of "Mamma Mia" last night and was very pleased with the picture. Meryl rocks! It’s marvelous to see this legendary actress kick up her heels and shine as she serenades us with her superb voice. Additionally the world has a new star in Amanda Seyfried who lights up the screen and has the voice of an angel. I am very proud to be part "Mamma Mia" and as I head off to New York to start the promotional tour for this film I can honestly say it’s a good night out at the movies. So go, have a laugh, and revel in the songs of Abba.
Next up I will be in New York making a movie called "The Greatest" with my production company Irish DreamTime. It is written by a young woman named Shana Feste who will also be making her directorial debut. The talented and beautiful Susan Sarandon is cast to play my wife in this drama about a family who tragically loses their son in a car accident only to find that the young girl he was with that night is now carrying his child. It is a complex study of love, grief and forgiveness.
This Fall I'm off to Berlin to start a picture with renowned director Roman Polanski based on the book by Robert Harris "The Ghost." The talented ensemble includes Nicholas Cage, Tilda Swinton and Kim Cattrall. So having had time off with my wife and children for the last few months I'm now busy and excited by the work ahead.
I hope you all have wonderful and happy summer. Be safe. Do good things.

From www.piercebrosnan.com/open.phpAugust 26th, 2008 Dear Friends, I just wrapped on "The Greatest" with Susan Sarandon, and up next I'm shooting "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" directed by Danny De Vito, adapted from the book of the same name by Avi. I will be joined by Morgan Freeman and the young Saoirse Ronan starring in the title role. Also, "Mamma Mia!" is rolling out a new "sing-along" version of the film on August 29th. I am very proud to be part of "Mamma Mia!" and I can honestly say it’s a good night out at the movies. So go, have a laugh, and sing-a-long to the songs of Abba. I hope you all had wonderful and happy summer. Be safe. Do good things. Love,

Fall Greetings One and All,
What a joy it has been to watch Mamma Mia make so many people happy. Not a day goes by without someone saying they have seen it, not once but several times. Recently, I met an elegant and spry lady celebrating her 87th birthday and she told me she had seen the movie 9 times because it made her feel so happy. Her beautiful daughters and grandchildren were all nodding in agreement beside her. I don't think any of us thought Mamma Mia would touch so many people’s lives around the world. But it has, and I do believe it will continue to do so for many years to come. As the late great Sydney Pollack said to me one night at the Deauville Film Festival when I was promoting Thomas Crown... "Enjoy it, they don’t come round that often." He was right. (Now there’s a guy I would have loved to have worked with.)
I made an independent film over the summer with my company, Irish DreamTime, called The Greatest. The beautiful and talented Susan Sarandon joined first time writer/director Shana Feste and a young company of gifted actors to make a film which explores love, loss and the heartbeat of family life. Up next I will be making a movie with Roman Polanski called The Ghost. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle has been pushed to begin production in summer 2009 and The Thomas Crown Affair 2 will follow shortly thereafter.
This fall, change is in the air. Now more than ever we must have the courage to choose a leader who will bring us hope in this ever changing world. I am proud to be an American. I have been blessed to earn a good life here, to raise a family, and to be part of a country and a nation that I will always call home. I follow a long line of fellow Irish men and women who have come to this land to begin a new life. Whatever your choice, please vote on November 4th. To quote Malcolm Fraser:
"America remains the world’s best hope for a free and open and peaceful society."
Here's to unity, compassion between us all, and kindness.

Season's Greetings One and All,
What a joy it has been to watch Mamma Mia make so many people happy. Not a day goes by without someone saying they have seen it, not once, but several times. You can now purchase Mamma Mia on DVD for the holidays.
Last summer my company Irish DreamTime made an independent film called The Greatest, which has been accepted into the 2009 Sundance Film Festival competition. The beautiful and talented Susan Sarandon joined first time writer/director Shana Feste and a young company of gifted actors to make a movie which explores love, loss and the heartbeat of family life. Up next I will begin principal photography on a film entitled Heaven and Earth which is shooting entirely on location in South Africa. Heaven and Earth is the true story of James Miranda Barry (portrayed by Natasha McElhone) who was appointed Army Surgeon at the Cape Colony and rose through the ranks to eventually become Surgeon General of the British Army. Only when the undertaker was laying out the body of the eminent physician was a startling discovery made - Dr. James Barry was in fact a woman.
This spring, I will be working with Roman Polanski on a film based on the book of the same name, The Ghost which details the story of a ghost writer crafting the memoirs of the British Prime Minister. When "the Ghost" uncovers a myriad of secrets, his own life is put in jeopardy. The ensemble includes Ewan McGregor as The Ghost and Kim Cattrall as my mistress. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle will begin production in summer 2009 followed by The Thomas Crown Affair 2 in the fall.
In the spirit of giving this holiday season please consider making a small contribution to those in need. The following organizations were on our holiday gift giving list:
- The Jane Goodall Institute - Roots and Shoots - American Red Cross - Kauai Humane Society
These funds will be used to sponsor environmental education and youth based humanitarian programs, provide clean, safe drinking water to a developing nation by distributing thousands of portable water purifiers, offer relief services for the victims of the Southern California Wildfires, and care for numerous stray animals while also supporting the spay and neuter shelter program on the island of Kauai.
Holiday Blessings from my home to yours and every good wish for the coming year ahead. May the spirit of the season fill you with love, joy and peace.

www.piercebrosnan.com/menu.php?mm=1&sm=1&pn=1February 7, 2009 Greetings One and All, I am currently making a picture called Heaven and Earth which is shooting entirely on location in South Africa. Heaven and Earth is the true story of James Miranda Barry (portrayed by Natasha McElhone) who was appointed Army Surgeon at Cape Colony and rose through the ranks to eventually become Surgeon General of the British Army. Only when the undertaker was laying out the body of the distinguished physician was a startling discovery made - Dr. James Barry was in fact a woman. This spring, I will be working with Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski, who is set to direct and produce his first contemporary thriller in more than twenty years. The Ghost, based on the book of the same name by best-selling author Robert Harris, details the story of a former British Prime Minister and his anonymous ghostwriter who is drawn into a political and sexual conspiracy. The talented cast includes Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Kim Cattrall, Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh, and Olivia Williams. Last summer my company Irish DreamTime produced an independent film starring Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan, Johnny Simmons and myself called The Greatest, which was well received at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. First time writer/director Shana Feste’s richly evocative script results in a compelling drama that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The Hollywood Reporter asserts The Greatest “pulls off a stunning fete” and “…performances are daring and brilliantly shaded.” This summer Irish DreamTime along with Jersey Films and Revelations Entertainment will produce the classic children’s book The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle starring Morgan Freeman and yours truly. This fall, IDT will produce the long anticipated sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair. Lastly, it has been a tremendous joy to watch Mamma Mia make so many people happy. Not a day goes by without someone saying they have seen it, not once, but numerous times. You can now purchase Mamma Mia on DVD. Change is good! Be well... be happy... love and only love,

He was still there probably because the actors and crew waited until they knew it had been postponed. He probably will go home since evidently his part in The Ghost is scheduled for later shooting (hence is ability to do H&E) I hope they are able to reschedule if they get their financing but keeping the same actors or working around their prior commitments will no doubt be difficult.
