Darn it, I can't find the "quote" thing again in all these little boxes. ::shakes fist at Ace's board:: I was simply going to add my two cents worth that I thought Cary Grant's "honor" was well-deserved. cg

I maybe should keep this to myself, but I can't help thinking that Cary Grant should share his #1 with Pierce.

I maybe should keep this to myself, but I can't help thinking that Cary Grant should share his #1 with Pierce. What good is an opinion if you keep it to yourself? As a matter of fact, I often thought that when RS was doing the suave and sophisticated number in that series, that there was intentional copying of Cary Grant's style, both by the writers and the character. cg

He chose his wardobe for RS and the style of it, deliberately wanting it to be rather old fashioned and classic, different from anyone else on TV then, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't influenced by Grant and other stars of the 40's and 50's. But then a young pre-RS PB was by many accounts dressing like an "actor"... even if it came from bargain hunting at thrift shops. PB says he watched old Cary Grant films to get in the RS mood and that RS is a primarily a combination of Cary Grant, James Bond and John Cleese... although he got the ear tugging bit from Humphrey Bogart! Of course he's also said that RS is also just alot of him playing himself. Ace

You mean he hadn't been tugging at his ear before he played RS? The habit took; I saw him do it in movies as well as in interviews.

He mentioned it in one of those PB Chronicles. I don't know if started it with RS. He could have been doing it from childhood, but he got the habit from Humphrey Bogart, and evidently it took. He does do it now off set and did it in TCA.

This is really funny! I always associated the ear-tugging gesture with PB, and almost everytime someone else does it, I have to think about PB or RS.
