Looking for something frightening to watch on Friday night? Here's a selection from 'Fangoria's 101 Best Horror Movies You've Never Seen' by Adam Lukeman ($13, Three Rivers Press). Most are available on DVD.
'Cherry Falls' (2000): A serial killer is tracking virgins, so small-town teens get it on to save their lives.
'Cronos' (1993): A moody twist on the vampire theme by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro.
'Day of the Dead' (1985): The last, and least appreciated, entry in George Romero's zombie trilogy.
'Def By Temptation' (1990): Urban female vampire tale by Spike Lee associates and starring 'A Different World's' Kadeem Hardison.
'Jack's Back' (1988): Yuppie lady-killer James Spader is suspected of being a literal killer, the reincarnation of Jack the Ripper.
'Manhunter' (1986): Michael Mann's original, superior adaptation of Thomas Harris' 'Red Dragon.' Brian Cox is a different, but equally disturbing, Hannibal the Cannibal.
'Nomads' (1986): A pre-Bond Pierce Brosnan stars as an anthropologist, shaken if not disturbed, who's battling evil Eskimo spirits.
'Rabid' (1977): Horror as sickness, sex as vampirism, with porn star Marilyn Chambers as a plastic surgery patient whose body rebels against her. Obviously by David Cronenberg.
'Screamers' (1995): Nice outer-space terror flick with Peter Weller, based on a tale by Philip K. Dick.
'When a Stranger Calls' (1979): Every baby-sitter's worst nightmare — 'The calls are coming from inside the house!'

What does it say that I've seen many of these films... well not Cherry Falls ( ;D on the premise!) A couple though are actually classics like Manhunter... and it's nice to see the very underrated Nomads get some ink and respect.
