I can't say I care for the style of those sunglasses much. One would think he could find more attractive ones. cg

Deauville marches with Spielberg, Vachon
PARIS -- The Deauville Festival of American Cinema, celebrating its 30th edition in September, will pay tribute to producer Christine Vachon and screen a retrospective of Steven Spielberg's entire oeuvre, with the director due in the Normandy beach resort for the occasion, organizers said Friday. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which took place on the coast near Deauville, the festival also will screen all 10 hourlong episodes of HBO's megabudget series "Band of Brothers," which Spielberg co-produced. Vachon's 40-plus producing credits include several titles that screened in Deauville, including Todd Haynes' "Far From Heaven," Todd Solondz's "Happiness" and John Cameron Mitchell's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," which scooped the Grand Prix there in 2001. Others provisionally announced as attending include director Michael Mann and actors Matt Damon, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Malcolm McDowell and Gena Rowlands.
=============================
Hmmm Laws opens in France in early September. I wonder if there's a connection.

For that highly regard rag The National EnquirerWAS SPECTRE BEHIND THIS? An evil plot to kill James Bond? No, just a weird real-life accident for homeowner Pierce Brosnan -- whose garage door suddenly smashed down on his $100,000 Jaguar! The star was wheeling into the garage when a steel cable snapped and . . . CRASH! The huge door hurtled down and slammed into the hood -- just 12 inches from Brosnan's head! ================================= Inappopriate thought for this article... when did he get a jag? Ace

Possibly evidence that the story is not true? Don't know. I hope it isn't.

A story from the Enquirer being not true? Heaven forfend. Really though it seems a rather non salacious story for them to make up. He wasn't even reported to be making out with a Martian when his garage door slammed down. Ace

Hey, I have an idea for a new thread: who can make up the "best" National Enquirer-type headline about PB? ;D
TMITYH and I used to read those headlines out loud in the checkout lanes to see if we could make other people laugh. Our favorite was always "Famed Psychic's Head Explodes!"

12 inches? Was he driving with his head over the steering wheel and against the windshield? While I've never been in a Jag (or whatever car he's driving these days, I'm sure ;D ) , I assume they're like other cars . . . a dash, a steering wheel, leg room . . . I'm pretty sure PB sits more than 12 inches away from the hood migs

Oh well, either they wrote it for insurance purposes or it was hard to measure from a distance they had to keep from PB's house.

It's when you go by foot, CG. It is my screen or those pearl have something green around them? Anyway, I like the idea of buying matching jewelry for an anniversary. Very romantic!

Har har har. Now that you mention it, it looks that way to me, too (green by the pearls), but I guess the light could be - um - funny. (?) One would like to think that PB isn't buying his wife the kind of jewelry that turns green when you wear it. cg

Probably not, but a first I thought it was some kind of mounting - like every pearl was set in a little green cup or something. Very cute, actually, and very original.

I'd say it was a setting except the entire photo is tinged with green including their skin and hair. Here's the article in non bablefish English: (Tahitipresse) - Call it “Marutea Pearls Mission” for 007, James Bond to the movie world, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan in real life. No, this wasn’t a new James Bond film being shot in Tahiti. Instead, Brosnan and his wife, actress Keely Shaye Smith, spent a week on Bora Bora, known as the “pearl of the Pacific”. They were celebrating their third wedding anniversary. On Saturday morning the couple, accompanied by some friends from Hawaii, flew in a private plane to the Tuamotu atoll of Marutea Sud to visit the pearl farm of Robert Wan, the world’s biggest producer of Tahitian cultured pearls. Perhaps Brosnan remembered how his wife had surprised him on their wedding day on Aug. 4, 2001 with an ice sculpture of Rodin’s The Kiss during their wedding reception at the 13th Century Ashford Castle Hotel in County Mayo, Ireland. Brosnan, 51, was born in Navan County, Meath, Ireland. Whatever the inspiration, Mrs. Brosnan left Tahiti on Saturday night with a lovely Tahitian pearl necklace as a wedding anniversary gift. And, not to be left out, he wore a men’s Tahitian pearl pendant, a pearl attached to a leather cord around his neck. “The day was idyllic,” Brosnan told Tahitipresse Saturday night before boarding a flight to Hawaii with his wife. The couple was warmly welcomed at the Tahiti-Faa’a International Airport by a group of students preparing to leave for France to continue their studies at universities. The Brosnans obviously enjoyed the attention, which was typically Tahitian as guitars were played, the students sang and flower leis were distributed.

How lovely to be whisked away like this. Those pearls are nice, too. I tuned down the green in the photo a bit, but there is still some green on the pearls. Maybe it's from the flowers.
