Skrebneski's 'Moving' view of fest September 28, 2004 BY BILL ZWECKER Sun-Times Columnist There's clearly a double meaning in the title of a new book celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Chicago International Film Festival and its relationship with Chicago's most famous photographer, Victor Skrebneski. Moving Pictures! is a 244-page black-and-white chronicle of Skrebneski's images of the festival -- from his annual Cinema Chicago poster shots to the stars and personalities who helped festival founder Michael Kutza toast the best of the world's contributions to filmmaking since 1964. The book -- featuring a forward by Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert -- will be launched at a special reception Monday. Among the notable personalities featured in the book are Richard Attenborough, Robert Benton, Pierce Brosnan, Cindy Crawford, Tom Cruise, Bette Davis, Faye Dunaway, Anthony Hopkins, Bill Kurtis, Gary Sinise, Oliver Stone, Sharon Stone, John Travolta, Orson Welles and Oprah Winfrey. Moving Pictures! also includes essays and personal memories from film critics and historians, and behind-the-scenes photos (taken by other photographers) showcasing festival events over the years. The Skrebneski photos from Moving Pictures! will be on display in a free exhibition Oct. 5-28 at 401 N. Michigan. The book will be available at Borders bookstores, the Museum of Contemporary Art and via the festival's Web site, www.chicagofilmfestival.com.
