MI6: Top 10 most watched movies on UK TV during 2003The British film industry is holding its own when it comes to attracting TV audiences, research suggests, and James Bond is doing his bit. Recent British films accounted for four out of the 10 most watched movies in 2003, despite making up less than 3% of films screened on terrestrial TV, reports the BBC. Pierce Brosnan 007 movies "The World Is Not Enough" and "GoldenEye" were among the top ten films screened on British TV last year, with audiences of 7.8 million and 7.5 million viewers respectively. TOP 10 MOST WATCHED TV FILMS IN UK (2003) 1. Billy Elliot - 12.7m 2. Cast Away - 9.6m 3. The Sixth Sense - 9m 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - 8.8m 5. Dr Doolittle - 8.2m 6. The World is Not Enough - 7.8m 7. The Thomas Crown Affair - 7.7m 8. The Full Monty - 7.6m 9. GoldenEye - 7.5m 10. Meet the Parents - 7.4m ============================= Well the report is British film centered, and the news of it from MI6.com is Bond slanted. So now for the PB slant. THREE of the top 10 films are PB fims. Ace

Although I must say some other films on this list make me question their taste... The pattern is most are recent releases, well except Goldeneye, all are 1999 and later. The Full Monty and Billy Elliot, British films were both HUGE in the UK and are good films. In fact actually most are IMO with exception of Eddie Murphy's Dr Dolittle and he's done much worse that that. ;D Ace

Interesting that your list of good movies doesn't include those I had in mind as questionable.

Well of those I've neve seen Castaway... too much almost naked Hanks for me, but I've seen the others and liked them. I really liked The Sixth Sense and Indiana Jones is pretty good. The last is Meet The Parents, DrNiro and his cat crack me up, ad it's the best Ben Stiller gets humilated movie. ;D

We're not talking about accidentally watching crap once; we're talking about watching it over and over again. I suppose it explains the popularity of the Ben-Stiller-gets-humilated movie - not that it's necessarily crap; I haven't seen it but I know it's not my kind of movie. And I like Last Crusade. But Cast Away...? More than once? It's so average and so boils down to a modern remake of Robinson Crusoe. As for Sixth Sense - I liked it at first, too, except for some sirypy scenes, but after a while realized it was too obviously a chiche. It's a matter of taste, I suppose. After Unbreakable I don't watch Night Shyamalan's movies anymore.

it's great to see that TCA - a non-bond-movie and an irish dreamtime production-is in the top ten too ;D

Actually we're just talking once, these aren't cumulative figures, just which films had the highest ratings when shown. Maybe people missed them in the theater. I liked The Sixth Sense enormously. I skipped Unbreakable though but did see Signs and that will be my last Shamalyan movie... some good parts but slow but worse was that the ending is infuriatingly maddening and insulting and I loathed it. I was tremendously disappointed in Castaway after all the hype. It wasn't bad, but it isn't something I'd watch over and over. Sixth Sense was okay, but someone spoiled it for me before I caught in on video or TV; didn't see it in the theater. I have to say I'd take TCA over any Bond. And what is "terrestrial TV?" Or perhaps the better question is, "what isn't?" cg

Meet the Parents and Full Monty were really fun. Cast Away, well, I've seen it, it was okay, but I can't see what makes it so much better than PB's Robinson Crusoe. Maybe it was the FedEx packages. As for the PB movies in there, pretty good record.
