Cleese slams rude Bond producersWenn Monday June 12, 10:35 AM Veteran actor John Cleese has hit out at the producers of the James Bond movie franchise, insisting his sudden dumping from the series was rude. Cleese, who played gadgets geek Q in Die Another Day, had desperately hoped to reprise the much-loved role in forthcoming movie Casino Royale. But the 66-year-old was mysteriously axed from the project without being warned or consulted. Cleese fumes, "Q doesn't appear in Casino Royale but it would have been nice if the producers had the courtesy to telephone me." ============================= This puts a new spin on things. Pierce was lucky he got a phone call. Ace

See? We had no cause for complaint. Next thing we learn is that PB was fired because they wanted him to be able to qualify for unemployment benefits. Poor Dalton had to resign.

There is no Q in CR. Are they out of their minds? Wait, that's a rhetorical question.

Well, actually in the original book, Casino Royale, Q wasn't there either. Not that I'm assuming they'll be true to the book which impressed me to no end with its explanation of gambling.

Well Moneypenny is in the book but she's not in the film either. And of course there are many new characters now in the film not in the book, and Bond plays Texas Hold'em so all those explanations of Baccarat in Casino Royale go for naught.

Plays Texas Hold'em where? In the upcoming movie?

Oy.
I learned to play Baccarat from Casino Royale. I really did hope I had simply missed some running joke between you and Lauryn.

You can really count on news items from CR to make one laugh. This might be the best spoof film ever made.

Plays Texas Hold'em where? In the upcoming movie? To borrow a punch line from those Vegas commercials Bond had better hope that "what happens in Royale-les-Eaux stays in Royale-les-Eaux." (Too bad for him MI-6 is in on it, too.) Bond always did have an affinity for Texans. Still, "Texas Hold 'Em?" Tsk. One might not want to take the risk that instead of the usual gourmet catering they'd start sending out for fast food for him at Blades. Come to think of it, they could have made a dandy "what happens in Vegas" commercial from "Diced Steele." Any number of scenes would do for illustration, but you'd have to include Mildred in an ensemble that Elton John wouldn't be caught dead in. Laura at the craps tables yelling out, "Sleep is for cowards!" then turning Steele's arm into her personal chew toy. Steele kneeling in front of a body and an open safe, then going from a knee-walk to a run with a briefcase. The melee outside the casino with the money blowing in the wind. Steele dropping the glittering necklace to the sidewalk as he and Laura walk off arm in arm. Have I ever said I really love the ending to Diced? The song choice is swell (and that it's ersatz Sinatra just makes it more Vegas), that real feel of briskness in the air, and them warming to each other (very reminiscent of the cable car scene in "Steele Trying), the nuances, slightly sexual as well as otherwise, of Steele's line "if I'm not careful, Miss Holt, you could make an honest man of me." Their hair and clothes look just right on them, and perfect for the mood. I could go on, but ain't it grand? Well, in my book it is, anyway.

I love the ending in Diced! And the way both L&R look in the episode, too. Were we talking about Bond? Oh. Bond never had such a cool leather jacket, did he?

The tag of Diced is one the best, very moody and cool. Bond had a very cool leather jacket -- or rather more coat at the start of TND.

Bond didn't have much on at the beginning of TND...

Bond didn't have much on at the beginning of TND... You must have been fastforwarding -- Bond frolicking with the little bit of Danish happens much further into the film than Bond in leather at the arms bazrre. Ace

Oh yes, right. For some reason, the scene with the Danish professor is so much more memorable. I remember the leather jacket/coat Bond wore in the arms bazar scene. It's a nice one, but quite different from the one Steele wore in Diced, and IMO, not as cool. Of course, I do not wish to imply the lack of coolness in Mr. Bond's outfit in any way affected Mr. Bond's looks or his personal level of coolness. However, my opinion on the jacket from Diced still stands.
