He looks like Jean Marais.

Gee, you would have to tell me it's meant to be Pierce--I'd never know!

I don't think I've ever seen a suit with 3 pockets. How do you like " authentic portrait" and "fully articulated body with 30+ points of articulation"? I wounder how much the doll would have cost if they didn't save on the writer. He looks more and more like Jean Marais - the physique as much as the face. Do my eyes deceive me? Has anyone else seen his movies?

I think the three pockets is a homage to Scarmanga's third nipple. I can't believe that suit had three bottom pockets and I didn't notice. I'm going to have to pop in my DVD over the weekend and check it out. Hm, I'm not sure he looks like Marais -- but he looks like him more than he looks like Pierce. As for the physique -- well all the male dolls -- er commerative figures have the same one. And who can even tell what that is with that well tailored cloth outfit. Ace

I think the three pockets is a homage to Scarmanga's third nipple. Yes, that's what I meant. This, er, commemortive figure, can't look entirely like Marais - he was, after all, a very handsome man, too. For some reason, this one looks rather bulky. Either I didn't see others or this suit is, albeit, of course, very well tailored, was tailored for a different figure.

Yes, I must say that the SMA wears his suits much better than this commemorative chap. Disturbingly too, his left hand looks like a claw...

Supposedly all Bond suits worn by all Bond actor s have 3 pockets. I asked about this on Absolutely James Bond and got this informative reply: If you examine photos of any of the Bond actors in a business suit or blazer, you will note three pockets ... or more precisely, one side pocket at the left, two side pockets at the right, one directly above the other.
This third pocket is for tickets. While we've never seen James on a domestic train, it's considered quite a sign of upper-class distinction to have a pocket dedicated to the carrying of one's first class coach compartment tickets. On some level, I would expect it's intended as a non-verbal indicator of Bond's position, upbringing, etc.
Though in decades past I was known for my sartorial spelndor, I actually learned this from Dressed to Kill, a terrific book that offers a look not simply at what 007 has worn over the years, but an overall history of men's fashion in the UK post-WWII thus providing a more complete context. (Seriously, you wouldn't think so, but this book gives unique insight into Bond's character.)

:: Thud :: How fascinating. Our library has this book and I think I will give it a try. I also think I will take a look at a couple of James Bond movies to make sure. Not that I don't believe the pocket is there, but I don't believe it stands out that much. It looks like Sideshow's attempt at authenticity turned into attempt to make this clod look like a gentleman.

Pardon my cluelessness, but what the heck does SMA mean? I've seen it in several posts and assume it's Pierce, but what does it stand for?

Thanks, Lauryn. I just thought of it and scrabbled over here as quickly as I could to edit my post before I ended up with egg on my face, but it looks as though you answered promptly. Do you think I look best with scrambled, fried, poached, boiled or what? Thanks so much.

What a shame they botched Pierce in this figurine, doll or whatever you want to call it. The waxworks in London did a better job. Anyway I want to point out that in Season 5's "Steeled With a Kiss" Remington wears a tweed suit sporting the 3 pocket tabs that Bond suits seem to require. Perhaps the 3 pocket tabs are a favourite of British tailors?
