No word on their opinion on the quality of the show though PB did refer to it as the same ole dance of will they/won't they and their relationship not going anywhere with Tony tossed in as the new obstacle. But then he'd been voicing some frustration at the lack of advancement in the relationship and the desire to take some actual risks in the series since Season 3. As for just being there -- well they were both fired by NBC when the show was originally canceled. SZ got a role in Robocop and PB was offered Bond -- then they were unfired (because of the Bond hoopla and a surge in the ratings) and dragged back for this last minute and abortive season then fired again. I can't imagine the season holds fond memories for either. Except that when they dragged PB back for it they had to re-up the show for 22 episodes which means they had to pay him for all 22 and everyone else in the cast as well even though they wound up just filming 6. Maybe they kind of liked that.

Of course, Pierce was absolutely gorgeous in this season....so much so that the images on the screen would fairly scream: "This should have been BOND!". The archery scene, with Steele splitting Tony's shaft....Bond, James Bond. Very true. he looks so Bond there it's actually screaming B-O-N-D. I do so enjoy him splitting Tony's shaft though. LOL!!!! The least she could have done is opened some and fed him. They should have also made a point of that. How could Mr. Steele live on half a potato? His stomach would have been making more noise than the supposed ghost. I think his light headedness is what kept him from realizing Laura was a pod. Ace

Absolutely. When he's walking through the crowd at that cocktail party at the Russian Embassy wearing black tie and dinner jacket I can actually hear the Bond theme playing in my head. And if Bond ever had to pose as an Irish nobleman, he would have looked like Pierce did in that tweed suit. It might have made more noise that it did in Steele Trying. Too bad he and Tony demolished the village pub in the course of their fight. Steele might have been able to ask for a sandwich there. But then again, he might not considering his culinary sophistication.

I like the season 5, it isn't my favorite of course, but there were in it some funny scenes and tender moments between Laura and Remington (I adore the scene in the honeymoon motel in the middle of jungle!) It's also a lost occasion for "investigate"on their marriage! It's a real pity! I like so much PB in these episodes, he's so charming and brilliant... Laura is so....strange, I know! Roselli everywhere? It's a nightmare! This is the worst part of the season 5 for me, sorry. I like Scalia in other tv show but in Remington Steele he's so hateful! He disturbs to me when he is "stuck" to Laura! And Laura????She kisses him many times She's crazy! For me all this mess it's a error of the scriptwriters... a triangle is a mistake in the last season for me! Ok in season 1, two etc etc, but in season 5? They love each other, they know, we know....all know.... why Roselli? This is a huge mistake because without him, season 5 it's good for me! I like so much the final scene in the bedrooms....ok the telephone rings (Roselli out!!!!!! ) but their looks are incredible, so intense, so sexy and romantic! Better than a kiss! And their future is a reality for me after this scene! This is the important after all!

I love Season 5. In fact, when songvidding, I found that I was capturing virtually every scene, because they are all gems. I hate Tony, but I don't think Laura behaved so badly. Steele, on the other hand, could have behaved far better (Laura was practically begging him to punch Tony). However, both stayed in character and neither betrayed the other. I know I am probably alone in thinking that. There seem to be more people willing to defend Tony than to defend Laura, but I remain firmly convinced that Laura does nothing of which she need feel ashamed.
Actually, with 20 years between my first and second viewings, I'd begun to believe Laura must have behaved as badly as everyone seems to think, but having finally seen it all again, I know the only person behaving badly was Tony.

I don't believe I've ever heard of anyone defending Tony.

I've seen it quite a lot. In one case, I even saw someone describe him as a victim of Laura's manipulations. I sometimes wonder if they've seen a completely different version to the one I have.

I'm glad to find that I'm not the only one who actually liked Season 5 - or what there was of it.
Pierce looked amazing due to his Bond workouts, though Steele did seem a bit - steely- through most of the episodes. I just attributed it to the fact that PB didn't want to be there due to the NBC execs jerking him around re-Bond.
Laura, I think was angry because of the impromptu wedding, how she was treated by that client (which would have made ongoing episodes a HOOT if they'd done a full 22 lineup) and then her cool, calm and collected husband didn't seem a bit jealous over her traipsing around a jungle with a good looking man.
Tony was just - Tony. Not so different from Steele in the beginning when all he wanted to do was get Laura into bed - and was none too secretive about it.
I liked the triangle and the contrast between who RS was now (after Laura's influence and falling in love) vs how RS was in the beginning - which was acting just like Tony. Manipulative.
I'd have liked to see them at least kiss at the very end rather than just stare longingly into one another's eyes but, I'm mostly happy with it. The lights went out. Figuatively and literally for the series and those beloved characters.
I like to think they finally had their magical moment and then continued on in typical Laura/Steele fashion. Arguing and generally getting under one another's skin while having some more intimate moments.
I'd love to see them do a present day RS movie.

I think I am going to have go back and watch the first episodes, but I think manipulative is a bit strong to describe RS in the beginning of the series, and I would say he well and truly LOVED Laura and was in love with her by the end of season three.
Having bought all three seasons of I SPY recently, and feeling guilty that I never finished getting the rest of RS on DVD, I finally did that, and will probably spend my summer catching up on what I missed. :-D

I enjoyed season 5 as well. Sure there is a great thing about being able to zip through a DVD with the fast forward button. Memorable moments for me included the scenes on the plane coming home from Mexico, arriving in Los Angeles, the scene in the office woth the boar, the plane ride to London where they explain about Shannon and Tony. Mr. Steele's icy calm in the LA office with Tony. The bow and arrow scene. The scene when Laura and Steele go to the master bedroom. The Daniel and Laura scenes. The Steele and Laura scenes. Shannon's character and the scenes in the Flamingo club and under table discussions.Shannon stealing Mildred's purse. The fight scene between Steele and Tony with Steele becoming the eventual victor although a little bloody and bruised after the altercation. The scene with Mildred and Steele after he finds out that Daniel is his father. Some people say that Laura's character was a little off, not so. She had just dealt with the whole Clarissa being the one Remington first goes to to solve his possible deportation. Then she finds Shannon in their marital bed. We forget that sometimes Laura acts rash: in Cannes kissing the millionare as Steele tries to steal back the dagger, offended that Steele asks her the last minute for a date and pretends that she has a date when Steele brings over Sheldon Quarry. Pretending that she is interested in a guy she doesn't remember and she and Steele are double dating during Gourmet Steele. Even in Season 4 we learn that Laura's insecurity and fear of abandonment are still strong. And at the end of season 5 in true Michael Gleason fashion as in every romantic movie in the 30's and 40's they share a long look and the rest is left to our imaginations. The significance of the scene is only enhanced when one remembers the conversation Laura and Steele have in S5 episode one and he asks why they always stop at the bedroom door. At the end of S5 they have finally crossed the bedroom threshold towards their future. I loved the series and enjoyed most episodes even the ones some consider not filled with romance still contained a moment or a new insight into Remington and Laura's characters. Absolutely love Remington Steele!
