Hi all,
I've been wondering who to ask and I thought since you are all such wizards of varying talents, I might try this forum:
I'm looking for a video from what I think would have been before the start of Season 2 or 3, in which NBC stars paraded through the "Cheers" bar to promote their shows for the upcoming season.
I distinctly remember PB & SZ (in character) going into the bar and talking to Ted Danson (in character as "Sam Malone").
I think I taped it back then, but my videotapes are long gone. I have the "Be There" Remington Steele promo (and can hook anyone up who is interested in acquiring it), but I have yet to find the abovementioned elusive gem.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I'd be ever so grateful.
Patricia

Patricia, You're talking about an NBC special that aired before the start of the 1982-83 TV season. The stars of the upcoming NBC shows appeared in character on the "Cheers" set. Laura kept telling folks that "he's the boss, but I'm in charge." That was the first time we actually heard that soon-to-be well-known phrase from RS. Debra Hi all, I'm looking for a video from what I think would have been before the start of Season 2 or 3, in which NBC stars paraded through the "Cheers" bar to promote their shows for the upcoming season.

Ah, I remember when Networks used to do that on a regular basis. Actors from all the new shows would come together, some times in character and usually with attendant clips to promote the new fall schedule. I don't recall seeing this one though and don't have it on any tape.
I do have a promo photo of Pierce and Steph along with Ted Danson and I think Shelley Long somewhere on my hardrive. It might be from this show or another NBC event.

Found it. It was originally dated 1984 but considering what PB's hair looks like 1982 might be a safer bet. SZ's dress is also one she wore during the Season One or Season two promo shots (the one with the puzzle pieces) You can see the NBC sign in the background. But this seems to be another event for the actors since this is not the Cheers set.

I guess it must be around 1982/1983 too. David Hasselhoff (also on this picture) was just starring then in Knight Rider on NBC.

This b/w photo is the event you're talking about, Patricia. Maybe it wasn't literally the "Cheers" set, but it was supposed to represent it. (I never watched "Cheers", so I might not even have noticed the difference.)

I'm afraid the pic Ace posted doesn't have anything to do with what you're looking for. It was a 60mn tv show in 1982 (again something impossible to find I'm sure!). "Plot Outline: "A lavish comedy-variety-musical" featuring NBC stars: David Hasslehoff, Stephanie Zimbalist, Pierce Brosman, Ted Danson and Shelley Long"Have a look there : www.imdb.com/title/tt0166072/Laura PS Did someone ever see it ?! It sounds great !

It may have been one and the same thing. It's essentially a Variety hour to highlight the new stars on the show but if you look at that credit list the entertainment is provided by actors performing skits of other famous people, with the new Network stars probably seated in the audience. Wasn't there also some Circus of the Network or NBC stars they were involved in? If I recall Pierce joked that there was a rumor that while performing his wig flew off and he was revealed to be bald. But I may be mixing up mis-rembering things. Ace

Ace is right - the picture she posted and the IMDB description are one and the same. The description is quite misleading, actually. The only parts I remember from the show are the scenes Remington and Laura were in - the rest was very forgettable.
I don't think the circus event PB is talking about was ever aired. I believe either he dropped out of the stunt or that particular stunt was dropped.
PB and SZ were also in NBC's "Night of 100 Stars", but they basically just walked onto the stage together in their evening wear while a rhyme was said. I've got the rhyme written down somewhere - I'll see if I can find it. It was only 2 lines long. It was cute the way SZ waved to PB as they walked off-stage in opposite directions - it was like she was nervous to be there without him.

The more I think about it, I don't think that IMDB description for the 1982 All Star Comedy thingie has anything to do with the NBC season preview PB and SZ did on the "Cheers" set. I think someone was mixed up when they posted that info. IMDB lists the show being produced in Canada, and it doesn't even list PB, SZ, Ted Danson, Shelly Long or David Hassellhoff as members of the credited cast.

I found the original Sept. 12, 1983 TV Guide promo for the "NBC All-Star Hour". It was referred to as "A Bubbling Hour of Laughter".
There's a full page promo featuring a champagne glass with bubbles escaping into the air. There are faces of various NBC stars inside the bubbles, including PB and SZ. It says: "Count them - more than 100 strs from your favorite shows - the more laughs than you could ever count in an hour! Featuring the cast of "Cheers".
Then 2 pages over is the actual blurb for the show: "The 'Cheers' bar is the setting for a variety-show style preview of NBC's fall lineup as stars from returning programs introduce new series and their casts. Highlights include film clips; Ann Jillian in a production number; Vicki Lawrence, Hoel Higgins and Thomas Byrd ('Boone') performing 'Hey, Good Lookin'; and Nell Carter singing NBC's theme song."

I found the "Night of a 100 Stars" rhyme from Sept., 1984:
"A beautiful pair who know where their appeal is - Part work, part romance, that's what 'Remington Steele' is."

Lots of info here. Thanks, everyone, for your contributions. Question: how did Hasselhoff make it into a pic with 4 such talented people?! I KNOW I recall the part on the "Cheers" set, but didn't remember the party setting. They may well have been 2 separate events, but looking at the photo Ace provided, I bet they were somehow connected. Sounds like no one is able to provide video from the "Cheers" set portion... But I remain hopeful... Patricia

Welcome, Steeleicycalm - or can I call you sic er or icy? It depends on where you're starting from. Is the video already on disc or is it still on tape? If it's already been converted to disc you can rip video and convert with a multitude of free programs on your computer. Then you can upload video to any number of free sites. Most have upload size limits but there are those that will house up to 1gb files (I think megaupload). Or you can cut it in smaller pieces and just upload the relevant bit to sites like 4shared or mediafire (files sizes I think top out at 100mb each) If you need help finding a program or site etc just holler.

Format Factory is a great ripper/converter tool and it's free Try ripping with it and seeing if you get sound. www.formatoz.com/index.htmlYou can rip it right to an mpg, avi etc file though and can choose the size and quality you want. Though if you rip it to VOBs you might get several smaller sections depending on how long the video is instead of one large one which will make it easier and faster to handle and dispose of portions you don't want. Or do you want to upload the entire episode? If you're using Windows it usually comes with a kind of media editor that will edit/cut avi files. There are also several free ones online like www.freevideocutter.com/
