‘The Out-Laws’: Netflix’s Pierce Brosnan-Starrer Action-Comedy Hints Intriguing Developments!
Pierce Brosnan and Adam DeVine will team up for an action-comedy flick backed by Netflix. Titled The Out-Laws, the movie takes the spirit of Meet the Parents with an unexpected twist. It will have a bank manager who is about to meet his future in-laws getting held as a hostage by the very same people.
The Out-Laws will be directed by Tyler Spindel, who is known for Father of the Year, Deported, The Wrong Missy and more. The first script was penned by Evan Turner and Ben Zazove. It’s believed Jen D’Angelo was also part of the writing team.
The movie was in development since 2019 and DeVine was attached to it from the start. DeVine will also produce the movie under Adam Sandler’s production house, Happy Madison. Other producers include Isaac Horne and Brendan O’Brien.
Netflix has released a synopsis for the movie as well. DeVine will star as Owen Browning, a straight-laced bank manager who is ready to marry the love of his life, Parker. But when his bank gets held up by the infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week, he finds out that his future in-laws are the infamous out-laws. Brosnan will play the patriarch in the crime family, called Billy McDermott. Aside from DeVine and Brosnan, Netflix is believed to be interested in Lucy Liu for the role of Lilly McDermott.
The movie is still in production, and the script may not have reached its final stage. However, the production is also stated to take place between October 19th and December 18th, 2021, and will take place entirely in Atlanta, Georgia.
Netflix hasn’t set an official release date, but we can expect it to arrive in late 2022 or early 2023.

Adam Devine & Pierce Brosnan Are on the Case in 'The Out-Laws' Images By Britta DeVore Published 1 day ago
The star-studded Netflix comedy is slated to land on the streamer in July.
It’s been a long time since we received any updates about Netflix’s upcoming star-studded comedy feature, The Out-Laws but today the streamer hit us with a slew of new material. Along with revealing the title’s premiere date of July 7, the streamer also gave us a few stills from the Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Pierce Brosnan, and Ellen Barkin-led film.
In The Out-Laws, Devine stars as an everyday man named Owen Browning who works as the manager of a bank. Preparing to marry the girl of his dreams, Parker (Dobrev), the wedding plans get out of hand when, during the week leading up to the couple's nuptials, Owen’s bank is held up by the legendary robbers known as the Ghost Bandits. Believing that not all is as it seems, Owen’s antennae are raised when his future in-laws come rolling into town around the same time of the robbery, giving him reason to believe that they may be the thieves. From what we’ve gathered of the film so far, it sounds like it’ll take notes from Prime Video’s Shotgun Wedding with a Murder Mystery twist.
Today’s images shed some light on the happily engaged-to-be-married couple as well as the prime suspects in the bank robbery. The first shot showcases the love between Owen and Parker as the two can be seen having the time of their lives at a hibachi dinner. A dream dinner destination for anyone, the duo is no doubt enjoying classic tricks like the volcano onion and the shrimp toss. The more serious second photo sees Owen seated behind his desk and attempting to unfurl the mystery of the bank heist. With his future in-laws and the love of his life standing behind him, could it be possible that they’re the ones behind the crime?
Who’s Behind The Out-Laws?
Along with the four stars, the film also features a stacked ensemble including the likes of Workaholics alum Blake Anderson, Michael Rooker, Julie Hagerty, Poorna Jagannathan, Lil Rel Howery, Richard Kind, Laci Mosley, and Lauren Lapkus. The movie comes from actor and filmmaker Tyler Spindel whose last directorial project was the David Spade and Lauren Lapkus-led comedy The Wrong Missy. Frequent collaborators and comedy legends Adam Sandler and Allen Covert are producing the film alongside Devine with the executive production team set to include Ben Ormand, Barry Bernardi, Brendan O’Brien, and Isaac Horne. Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, who were recently revealed to be behind the script for John Cena’s upcoming flick Officer Exchange, penned The Out-Laws.
The Out-Laws premieres on Netflix on July 7.

Watch: New Pierce Brosnan film sees him using a very dodgy Irish accent Olivia Fahy 06/06/2023
Netflix just launched the trailer for their upcoming film The Out-Laws which stars Pierce Brosnan as Adam Devine's future father-in-law who just so happens to be a bank robber.
While the trailer gives us a lot of information about the film's plot, there was something distracting us... Brosnan's accent.
The trailer shows the Navan native using what we think is a Northern Irish accent (or a dodgy Scottish one) with one line even being, 'Jesus, May and Joseph,' just to hammer home the Irishness.
The dodgy accent didn't go amiss by the masses either, with one Twitter user commenting: 'Pierce Brosnan. The only Irish actor who struggles to pull off an Irish accent.'
Although, not everyone minded, with one Instagram follower saying: 'Pierce is even hotter with that accent.'
In fact, one of the funniest jokes in the trailer is a rather meta one revolving around Brosnan's time as James Bond.
When Owen (Devine) asks if he looks cool holding a gun, Lily McDermott (played by Ellen Barkin) tells him he looks like James Bond, to which Brosnan's Billy asks which one. Lily replies, 'Five,' which fans will know was Brosnan's version of 007, and he smirks and replies, 'Oh that was a good one.'
Speaking to Netflix themselves about the film, Pierce shared that his character isn't too pleased with the prospect of having Owen as a son-in-law, saying: 'He’s [Billy McDermott] a rogue, he’s an outsider. He’s a kind of lost soul.
'He and his wife are not who they say they are. We come into town because our daughter’s getting married, and I do not take to this young man, in any shape or form. I find him to be not worthy of my daughter’s heart. And I give him a very hard time in the process of him trying to woo her.'
It seems everyone was excited to work with Pierce on the project, with director Tyler Spindell saying: 'I remember the first time I met him. He just looked into my eyes and shook my hand.
'And let me tell you, it was just the perfect handshake. He has a firm grip, but it’s not overpowering. He’s dangerous yet safe. His skin is soft, but it’s also rugged. He smells so good.'
Spindel added that when he went home that night, he only had one thing to say to his girlfriend and that was she was 'never getting to meet Pierce'.
The Out-Laws stars the 70-year-old Irishman alongside Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin, Michael Rooker, Poorna Jagannathan, Julie Hagerty, Richard Kind, Lil Rel Howery, Blake Anderson, Lauren Lapkus and Laci Mosley.
You can catch Pierce Brosnan in The Out-Laws when it lands on Netflix on July 7

One of the reasons I left Twitter was the way people in the Isles went after Pierce for his accent. I tried explaining to the knuckle draggers (some of them that particular brew of well dressed knuckle draggers who give all Bond fans a bad name, but I digress) that Pierce only lived in Ireland as a child, and then had to quickly get rid of the brogue if he wanted to survive in England, you know the country that at the time was at war with parts of Ireland.
His accent is the accent of many immigrants, the accent of the country of birth, the accent of where they lived next, and the accent of where they are now. I loathe it when they do it to Pierce, and loathe it even more when they do it to my students who don't have the same mechanisms to deal with it the way he does.
I'll get off my soap box now.

Courtesy of Kim Last who passed it on to me, this article from the The Boston Herald reveals that it was Brosnan who improvised the 007 line after Adam Devine improvised his pose with the gun. I have to admit, I am surprised that Pierce can joke about being Bond now after it has become painfully clear how badly Eon Productions disrespected him. In any event, here's the article: Pierce Brosnan adds his own comedic touch to ‘The Out-Laws’ -- Barbara

How Netflix's movie 'The Out-Laws’ demolished a cemetery without disturbing real graves
"The Out-Laws" puts the goofy into the bank heist film. But the Netflix comedy (now streaming) seriously steps on the action accelerator during one mayhem-filled scene featuring a getaway armored truck and pursuing police cars barreling through a cemetery, sending headstones flying.
"Yeah, that was crazy. That truck just drove through those gravestones,” says "Out-Laws" star and producer Adam Devine. “We wanted the action in this movie to be memorable. And I can say I’ve never seen a chase scene through a graveyard before."
Devine makes clear that no dearly departed were disturbed in the stunt. ”You don't have to worry,” he says. ”No actual gravestones were harmed in the making of this movie."
Filmmakers created their own cemetery in a park outside of the set in Atlanta, trimming it into shape and building more than 1,000 headstones.
"We basically built the graveyard so we could destroy it," says director Tyler Spindel. Production and stunt crews endeavored to find the right material to send the prop gravestones flying without destroying the movie’s last remaining armored car (the first truck got KO’ed during a previous stunt).
Foam gravestones were shot down as too fake in tests (“It just looked silly,” says Spindel). So combinations of materials were tested for the breakable stones, and filmmakers settled on Styrofoam coated in plaster. The scene ends with the truck flying through a mausoleum, also made from Styrofoam blocks.
The props were so realistic that the production team asked for authentic names to be carved in.
"I put the name of a barber who gave me a really bad haircut on one, and my proctologist and a couple of my exes," says Spindel. “So if you look really closely, you’ll see actual names.”
In the scene, mild-mannered Owen Browning (Devine) is driving the truck after robbing a bank with his ”Ghost Bandits” future in-laws (Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin) in the back with the stolen loot. Dressed in a Shrek disguise, Devine shot his driving scenes on green screen in a studio. He watched with some envy as the gravestones were demolished by professionals.
“My God, I wanted to do that stunt,” he says. ”Why do the stunt guys get to have all the fun?”
Adam Devine received squirt gun training on Netflix's ’The Out-Laws’
In one ”Out-Laws” scene, Browning shows off the squirt gun he’s been entrusted with for his bank robbery.
Even handling a water pistol came with frequent warnings from the armorer, says Devine. Set protocol is especially heightened after the tragic prop-gun death on the 2021 ”Rust” set.
“After each take, the armorer would come up to me and tell me each time that I was still using a squirt gun,” says Devine. ”But it was a pretty realistic squirt gun, and there were other guns and shooting scenes in this movie, so there were serious safety precautions.”
Devine suffered for his art in ”Out-Laws,” going into the makeup chair to have a fake back hair applied for one revealing scene.
“I have my own back hair, but we needed a comedic amount,” he says. The actor insists that wasn’t as bad as getting green Shrek makeup and ears applied at 5 a.m. each morning for the robbery scene.
“It was my idea to have Owen wearing that terrible Shrek-like outfit for his robbery disguise,” says Devine. “So for weeks, I was thinking what a horrible idea it was. But it pays off in the end.”
