EXCLUSIVE: James Bond Actor Pierce Brosnan Joins Netflix Comedy ‘Eurovision’ Starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams By Christopher Marc - August 4, 2019
HN Entertainment has learned that James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is expected to join the cast of Netflix’s comedy Eurovision, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams were previously cast as the film’s main leads.
Eurovision is a comedy set around the “The Eurovision Song Contest” – the longest-running annual international TV song competition.
Brosnan isn’t a stranger to musical/comedic performances having been apart of Mamma Mia! and Edgar Wright’s The World’s End.
We’ve also been able to confirm from multiple sources that Paul Inglis will be the production designer on the Netflix comedy. Paul’s art director credits consist of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049, Jason Bourne, Prometheus, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and Game of Thrones.
The rest of the film’s crew will include Spider-Man: Far From Home art director Nigel Evans (Deadpool, War For The Planet of The Apes, Morbius) and costume designer Anna B. Sheppard (Fury, Overlord, Captain America: The First Avenger).
The comedy will be directed by David Dobkin with a script penned by Will and Andrew Steele.
Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short) is also producing the film.
Will and Rachel are said to be playing Icelanders.
Filming will be taking place in Iceland and Tel-Aviv, Israel.
Pierce Brosnan joins cast for Netflix comedy ‘Eurovision’
Late last year, the rumour mills were spinning that Netflix had commissioned an original film based on the Eurovision Song Contest. Now, it looks like Pierce Brosnan will be joining the cast.
Not much has been revealed about Netflix original comedy ‘Eurovision’. In fact, Netflix has been so secretive about the project, that it isn’t even guaranteed that the movie will be called ‘Eurovision’. What we do know, however, is that the movie is 100% in production, and will feature Pierce Brosnan.
And what movie based around singing and entertaining would be complete without the flawless vocals of our world’s most fine-tuned performer, Pierce “singing is not necessarily my forte” Brosnan?
It goes without saying that the movie will be based on and inspired by everyone’s favourite zany collection of anthems, the Eurovision Song Contest.
So far there has been quite a bit of information leaking throughout the months, and we know that Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams will be playing the lead roles, as what is heavily rumoured to be two Icelandic individuals competing in the Eurovision song contest.
The plot could possibly touch upon the fact that Iceland hasn’t won the competition since their debut entry in 1986.
Paul Inglis is said to be the production designer for the film, which is exciting since his resume is incredibly impressive, including films such as ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Jason Bourne’, ‘Prometheus’, ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’, and ‘Game of Thrones’.
The role of art director is said to belong to Nigel Evans, which is also amazing news, as Nigel’s back catalogue includes ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, ‘Deadpool’ and ‘War For The Planet of The Apes’.
Filming will be taking place in Iceland, where the film is rumoured to begin, and will also be filmed in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
A release date is yet to be announced by Netflix.

Pierce Brosnan Will Play the Most Handsome Man in Iceland By Anne Victoria Clark @annevclark
Pierce Brosnan has been added to the cast of Netflix’s upcoming comedy Eurovision. The GoldenEye and Mamma Mia! star is set to play Erick Erickssong, the father of the film’s main character being played by Will Ferrell. Brosnan’s character is also apparently known as the “most handsome man in Iceland,” which makes sense, since Brosnan has long been the most handsome man in whatever room he happens to be in at that moment. Brosnan’s casting announcement in Deadline also offered a few more details about the film, which will follow Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as struggling Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir. Ferrell is also writing the film with Andrew Steele, with Wedding Crashers’s David Dobkin directing and Adam McKay executive-producing.

British actor Pierce Brosnan is here in Iceland, but he was spotted at the Consulate Hotel in downtown Reykjavik this morning. This is stated on Fréttablaðið's website.
The actor is likely to be in the country where he will play in Eurovision film Will Ferrell produced for Netflix.
Smile is best known for playing her great spy, James Bond, but is no exception when it comes to musicals but he has shown a magnificent play in the Mamma Mia films based on the Swedish band ABBA, which just won Eurovision in 1974 with the song Waterloo.
Filming will begin in Húsavík soon, but Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams will also be starring in the film.
Icelandic actors have also been cast to star in the film, including Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Björn Stefánsson, Hannes Óli Ágústsson, Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
Have you seen Brosnan in this country? Let us know or send us pictures on editor (vis) visir.is.

By now, you’ve no doubt seen the viral video of Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams’ Icelandic crooners belting out a pop ballad on the scorched rocks of Iceland.
Entitled “Volcano Man,” it was a rather ingenious marketing stunt for Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga, the Netflix original film headed to the streaming platform next month – June 26th, to be specific. And this one promises to be a hoot.
Also starring Dan Stevens, Pierce Brosnan, Demi Lovato, Natasia Demetriou (What We Do in the Shadows), and Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag), Eurovision Song Contest – the film, not the global music-powered phenomenon – charts the story of two Icelandic singers who are chosen to represent their country at the titular ceremony. Rumor has it that “Volcano Man” may be on the setlist.
Here’s the official (and decidedly tongue-in-cheek) logline, courtesy of Netflix:
Lars Erickssong (okay, it’s actually Will Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (and yes, that is Rachel McAdams) perform “Volcano Man” from the new film EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA debuting on Netflix June 26.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga and all of its glittery extravagance debuts via Netflix on June 26th.
More details about ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’ revealed More details of the plot, new images and what to expect have been released
Recently, it was announced that the Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga would be released on June 26th. The release date was originally supposed to coincide with the final of Eurovision 2020. However, the postponement came due to the cancelation of the contest due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to the June issue of Total Film, as reported by Wiwibloggs, we have more details of what to expect later this month. The plot thickens
Initially set in Húsavík, Lars (played by Will Ferrell) forms a musical duo ‘Fire Saga’ with Sigrit (Rachel McAdams), who go on to win Söngvakeppnin and go forward to represent Iceland at Eurovision. Lars’ fisherman father Erick is played by Pierce Brosnan.
Once they get to the contest, they meet Russian entrant Alexander Lemtov (played by Dan Stevens), the favourite to win. The film is also due to feature Demi Lovato as Katiana, alongside Graham Norton’s role/cameo. Another teaser image from the film can be seen below:

Will Ferrell reveals his handsome, mean 'Eurovision' dad in first trailer: Pierce Brosnan Bryan Alexander USA TODAY
Will Ferrell was looking for the most handsome, most disapproving father for his over-the-top Icelandic musician Lars Erickssong in his Netflix film "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga."
Ferrell could only dream about Pierce Brosnan, 67, taking the part, despite a noticeable lack of physical similarity and only a 15-year age gap.
"It literally said in the script, 'the most handsome man in all of Iceland,'" says Ferrell, 52. "And we kept saying, 'You know, like a Pierce Brosnan.' "
Sure enough, it's Brosnan providing the paternal scowls in the first full "Eurovision" trailer for the musical comedy streaming on Netflix starting June 26.
Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams:Duel against Dan Stevens in flamboyant new Netflix movie 'Eurovision'
The former 007 plays Erick Erickssong, who has no time for his son's Eurovision dreams that Lars wants to fulfill with fellow Fire Saga band member Sigrit (Rachel McAdams).
"It's always fun when the guy at the top of your list actually responds and says, 'Yeah, this could be fun," says Ferrell.
As director David Dobkin explains the father-son screen dynamic: "Will thought the most demoralizing thing on this planet would be somebody as cool Pierce Brosnan just thinking you're a total loser. Pierce was like, 'God, I'm so mean.' But it's really, really funny."
Alas, there's not a lot of solo singing for Brosnan, as heard in "Mamma Mia!" But that cool is eternal. Ferrell describes shooting one scene when Lars quits his music dreams and joins his father's fishing boat. It was shot on water with three-foot swells.
"People are getting sick and it's like, 'How are we going to shoot this?'" Ferrell recalls. "But Pierce, he was total James Bond. Just hanging out, taking selfies. I look like a total idiot in my fishing outfit. Pierce still makes a yellow fishermen's outfit, with his aviator sunglasses in between takes, just look really, really cool."
