Ace, you must be reading my mind ... I was just thinking that it was odd that it's now 30 days from the posted release date and there has been no trailer and no press about this. I guess this news explains that.

The movie, in which Brosnan plays King Louis XIV of France, had been scheduled to open on April 10. Paramount picked up U.S. distribution rights to the film, directed by Sean McNamara, in August. Also starring William Hurt, Benjamin Walker and Kaya Scodelario, the film tells how the French monarch tried to achieve immortality by stealing the life force from a mermaid. No new release date has been announced, although one source close to the film attributed the move to the fact that it was taking more time than expected to complete effects work and that the movie could be released some time this summer.

It's going to be released in theaters as it's a big budget Paramount Studios motion picture. Just not in 2016, I believe. I think the distributors are looking for a proper date to market the film. It's not a direct-to-video material.

Yes, because it's an overtly complicated fantasy. And with these draining of the schedules taken by both Marvel and DC superhero films, it has no chance to come out this year. People will have to be interested in it in time so the marketing campaign won't be wasted. Let's see if it'll get any schedule aimed at a 2017 release.

I just checked in IMDB and it appears the release date in the US is 7 October 2016.
