Hmm. Thank you for explaining. And I thought those were just cheap releases, so they didn't bother with extras. And those one-sided disks with a cool picture on the other side look so much better anyway, we're lucky to get them.

Being European I can only confirm what you already mentioned. We really do get our movies mostly in widescreen format. Even my TCA videotape is. Sadly, the only DVD I have where you can switch between wide and full is TCA, too. I think that full is more convenient if your telly is rather small. I still prefer wide, though.

“My God I have pulled out Pierce’s chest hair” Rosamund Pike Had a Mortifying Realization After Awkward Intimate Scene With James Bond Star Pierce Brosnan
by Hashim Asraff Reviewed By: Barsha Dutta September 20, 2023, 6:23 am
Rosamund Pike is famously known for her role as Amy Dunne in the postmodern psychological thriller, Gone Girl. Pike also earned an Oscar nomination for the portrayal of a psychotic and vengeful wife. More recently, the Jack Reacher actress appeared as Moiraine Damodred in the high fantasy TV series, The Wheel of Time. Her acting career began on stage productions and minor roles in television.
Interestingly, Pike had the rare opportunity to make her movie debut as a Bond girl alongside Pierce Brosnan in the 2002 film, Die Another Day. The Pride & Prejudice actress, who was only 21 at the time, had some less-than-exciting stories to share about her first time acting in front of the camera.
In Die Another Day, Rosamund Pike played Miranda Frost, an MI6 agent who turned out to be a double agent. The film featured an intimate scene between Pike and Pierce Brosnan, her first time filming such a scene. The Libertine actress shared this experience during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. When asked about her debut in a Bond movie, Pike started right away with her most embarrassing memory from the movie.
During the love-making scene, Pike had to wear pasties to cover her intimate parts. After filming the scene, as the Fracture actress looked down to see whether her pasties were still intact, she was shocked to discover them covered in hair. Pike thought she had accidentally pulled out Brosnan’s chest hair. The Informer actress told James Corden:
“But whatever, it [pasties] is protecting your modesty. I played Miranda Frost in an ice palace. So when Pierce and I had to simulate making love, it was on a furry bed covered with fur. When we separated after our first scene, I looked down to check these pasties and they were covered with hair. And I thought ‘Oh my god! I have pulled out Pierce’s chest hair.’”
Pike also commended the producer of the Bond movies, Barbara Broccoli, who made sure that she was well-covered and comfortable in the scene. In fact, the Hostiles actress shared that Broccoli was protective of all the actresses in her movie, and prioritized their well-being on set.
James Corden couldn’t contain his laughter, imagining Pierce Brosnan with two round holes in his chest. However, Rosamund Pike went on to share a relieving moment when she realized that nothing of the sort had happened. The hair she had found on her pasties was from the fake black furry rug that had been provided to cover them. The Beirut actress shared with Corden:
“And it wasn’t until maybe a few weeks later that I realized it was probably the fake fur rug, rather than his chest hair. Those weeks were pretty mortifying, I have to say.”
It would have been a nightmare for any debutante actress to accidentally hurt her co-star, who in this case was also a reputed star in Hollywood. Die Another Day was Brosnan’s fourth and final film as James Bond, before passing the baton to Daniel Craig. The film received mixed reviews but did good business at the box office, even becoming the highest-grossing Bond film at the time.
