SND will finance, co-produce and handle worldwide distribution (except in German-speaking territories) for Love Punch, a new romantic comedy from Last Chance Harvey director Joel Hopkins.
Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson will star in the story of a divorced couple who have to reunite when their pension is stolen.
The film will shoot this summer on location in the UK, Paris and the French Riviera.
Producers are Process Media’s Tim Perell and Nicola Usborne with Clément Miserez (Radar Films), and Jean-Charles Levy (Forecast Pictures).
Hopkins said: “I felt that this story of financial deception and the victims fighting back was a timely and appropriate one … I am thrilled to be reuniting with Emma Thompson and to be joined by the perfect leading man in Pierce Brosnan. I am inspired by classic romps such as A Fish Called Wanda and Romancing the Stone to make a fast moving, comic romance, that relies on physical comedy as well as verbal wit, and am honoured to have the perfect cast to play these parts.”
Thierry Desmichelle, CEO of SND, added “We are so pleased to be a driving force behind Joel Hopkins’ delightful script and fantastic casting for Love Punch and we are very excited to be working with Tim Perell and Nicola Usborne at Process Media as well as our French production partners Radar Films and Forecast Pictures.”
SND is the sales and distribution arm of M6 Group.
Sound promising. Can't wait to hear more. But, goodness, doesn't the word pension unavoidably conjure up one's twilight acting years? Oh to be a fly on the wall...
Pierce: Hang on! When you said missing IRA funds I thought you meant a terror plot -- Sunday bloody Sunday, things blowing up.
Emma T: And I distinctly heard a lost Pynchon. Thomas Pynchon, elusive writer of extremely heavy books. So what you’re saying Mr. Hopkins, is that my four hour Oscar bait epic is now reduced to some old gran standing on line for a free bus pass!
JH: Pardon the misunderstanding. Perhaps, in future, you might adjust the volume on your mobiles.
Emma T: Don’t bloody insinuate.
Pierce: Is there any action in this movie?
Emma T: Not apparently at our vast age.
JH: Well we might tart it up a bit. Can you shoot an AK?
Emma T: Bugger that. Helen Mirren’s cornered that market, the shameless wh*re!
Right! Great idea, looking forward to the movie, but I also suggest a minor rewrite - Piece dies his hair (whatever's visible on screen, mind you, and I hope the movie includes a few open shirts) and he and Emma chase the bastards that stole their college funds! Yay!
Sales 'Punch' for M6 Group Sales outfit sells world on 'Love'
By John Hopewell
In a further validation, if it were needed, of the market for upbeat comedies with an international reach, SND, the sales-distribution arm of France's M6 Group, has sold out most of the world on "Love Punch," starring Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson.
In a flurry of Berlin biz on "Punch," a title that SND closed on the eve of Berlin, eOne has acquired U.K., Australia and Canada, Square One has taken Germany, Revolutionary Releasing nabbed Russia and Eastern Europe and Pasatiempo Pictures has taken all of Latin America.
SND itself will handle distribution in France.
Other top deals include Spain (Antena 3/DeAPlaneta Spain), the Middle East (Gulf), Greece (Village Greece), India (Pictureworks) and Israel (Forum Films).
With Benelux and Scandinavia under negotiations, the only major territories currently left on the table are Japan, Italy and the U.S.
Joel Hopkins ("Jump Tomorrow," "Last Chance Harvey") wrote and will direct "Punch."
Brosnan and Thompson play a retired divorced couple whose pension is stolen by an unscrupulous businessman. Reuniting, they pursue him from London to the South of France, and begin to rediscover why they fist fell in love.
"Love Punch" shoots over the summer in the U.K. and France.
Beyond worldwide sales, SND finances and co-produces with the U.K.'s Process Media and France's Radar Films and Forecast Pictures.
"With this director and cast, there is a real and underserved audience for this kind of feel-good fun movie," said Lionel Uzan, SND-M6's director of acquisitions and international sales, referring to adults over 30.

SND has a small page up for the film. Filiming scheduled to begin in June.
Retirement at last! Middle aged and divorced company owner Richard Jones (Pierce Brosnan) is looking forward to a worry free existence as he arrives at his office on his last day of work. Much to his dismay, he discovers that the management buyout of his company was fraudulent. The company is now bankrupt and the employee pension fund – including his own – has been stolen. Enlisting the help of his ex-wife Kate (Emma Thompson), Richard sets out to track down the shady business man behind this, Vincent Kruger. Before they know it, Richard and Kate are caught up in a cat and mouse caper across Europe in a whirlwind of intrigue, mad chases and jewelry theft during which they rekindle their romance...…
A very promising script with two excellent actors. Sure we'll have fun. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, even that we have to wait a few months to get it. Your avatar very good. Congratulations for this Thanks for all the details that give us
