www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/690934-hollywood-movie-the-coup-starts-filming-in-phetchaburi/hetchaburi: -- Hollywood superstars Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson and Lake Bell were in Phetchaburi, central Thailand today to continue filming the upcoming movie thriller The Coup – And Thaivisa got an exclusive peek at the set of the movie! The Coup, which tells the story of a young family who relocate from America to South East Asia only to find themselves caught up in the middle of a violent revolution. As the situation intensifies and as foreigners around them are being imprisoned and executed, the family is soon forced to seek refuge. Wilson and Bell play the roles of the America husband and wife, while Pierce Brosnan is the heroic government official. The Coup is directed by John Erick Dowdle and is being produced in part by the Thai based production company Living Films, which also facilitated in the production of the blockbuster movie Hangover 2. The Coup, which is due to be released sometime in 2014 (official release date still to be confirmed) has been filmed in various locations throughout Thailand including Chiang Mai and more recently in Lampang, where the filming had to be temporarily halted due a fire on the set which caused considerable damage to filming equipment. This weekend, as filming continued, it was the turn of Phetchaburi to take centre stage as the cast and production team descended on the picturesque town, which saw its town centre and famous riverbank transformed into a scene straight out of 1960’s Saigon.

Uh oh, things don't look too good for Hammond based on these BTS pix. Wonder if Paris was just visiting the set or if he was an extra that night.

www.deadline.com/2014/05/cannes-owen-wilson-pierce-brosnan-survival-tale-the-coup-in-brisk-bidding/Cannes: Owen Wilson & Pierce Brosnan Survival Tale ‘The Coup’ In Brisk BiddingBy MIKE FLEMING JR | Friday May 16, 2014 @ 11:17am PDT EXCLUSIVE: Buyers have begun pulling out their wallets. I’m told that the bidding is up to $6 million for U.S. rights on The Coup, the John Erick Dowdle-directed thriller that stars Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan. The Weinstein Company is the front-runner, but it is battling it out right now with Relativity, with Paramount a lurking dark horse. Open Road had also been in the mix, but it sounds like it’s now between the other three. The movie is backed by Bold Films and was scripted by the director and his brother Drew. It is about an American family that relocates to Southeast Asia, only to find themselves in the middle of a violent coup. They struggle to find an escape route because the new parties in control are executing foreigners as quickly as they can round them up. WME Global is in the thick of the auction right now. The action on The Coup is based in buyers seeing 11 minutes of footage, along with a trailer. This one could well be wrapped up before everyone heads off to tonight’s parties on the Croisette. ============== Wouldn't it be nice if that 11 minutes of footage was leaked somewhere!!

It's an industry screening so not likely. Great news about Paramount lurking - that means it's probably seen as wide release even if Relativity or Weinstein get it.

www.deadline.com/2014/05/cannes-owen-wilson-pierce-brosnan-survival-tale-the-coup-in-brisk-bidding/Cannes: Weinstein Co In Exclusive Talks For ‘The Coup;’ Fest’s 2nd Biggest Deal So FarBy MIKE FLEMING JR | Saturday May 17, 2014 @ 10:53am PDT EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Well, it took all day, but I can tell you that The Weinstein Company is now in an exclusive negotiation and will close a U.S. distribution deal on a bitter bidding battle for The Coup, the John Erick Dowdle-directed thriller that stars Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan. I’d written yesterday that TWC was considered the front runner, but it was an all day battle for the Bold Films picture that pitted TWC against Relativity. TWC has until early tomorrow evening to close a deal expected to land $5 million and that makes it the second biggest acquisition of the Cannes market behind the whopping $20 million that Paramount paid for Story Of Your Life. The hope is to give it a wide release late winter or early spring. Deal is being papered now by WME Global’s Graham Taylor, who was also in the middle of that Story Of Your Life deal (with FilmNation’s Glen Basner), and Nightcrawler (done with CAA). Nightcrawler, which closed with Open Road last night for $4.5 million, is also a Bold Films backed production, so that company has also had a hot hand. Sierra/Affinity is selling both The Coup and Nightcrawler, a task that will be much easier for Nick Meyer with wide release domestic deals in place. This is the culmination of a dealmaking marathon for Harvey Weinstein, David Glasser and their team, as they also landed Sing Street, the John Carney-directed Irish movie that he’ll make with U2′s Bono and The Edge.

variety.com/2014/film/news/cannes-the-weinstein-co-poised-to-collect-the-coup-1201184623/CANNES: The Weinstein Co. Poised to Collect ‘The Coup’May 17, 2014 | 11:20AM PT Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson-starring thriller snared after one-on-one auction. Ramin Setoodeh CANNES: The Weinstein Company is entering into exclusive negotiations to acquire North American rights to flaming hot Cannes title “The Coup” after a bidding battle. The company is understood to be paying some $5 million for the John Eric Dowdle-directed title, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson. The Thailand-set thriller is financed by Bold Films. Rights in international markets are repped by Sierra/Affinity, while WME handled what turned into an auction for North American rights. The sale process became a two horse race between TWC and Relativity Media after other bidders including Paramount and Open Road fell by the wayside. Relativity finally dropped out after offering $6 million but haggling over backend, according to sources. Sources say that TWC is also haggling over the backend but is confident that a deal will close tonight, May 17. Story follows an American family that relocates to SE Asia, but finds themselves caught in the middle of violent political uprising.
