That one doesn't tempt me because I already have it. That's right, not tempting at all. ;D And do not forget, that making-of movie on the 4th disk is worth something, as well. PS. I know YS is a fan so I'll mention that the prices for "The Avengers" sets aren't bad either. But I'm sorry to disapoint you. YS is not a fan. I were curious, so I watched the series for a while, along with The Saint and The Prisoner. I liked Mrs. Peel and Mr. Steed, but my resolve ended soon after The Prisoner did since there was no need to watch in order anymore. I wouldn't mind watching an occasional episode of The Avengers every now and again, but not to the point of buying the DVD. Thank you for remembering, though. "My Favorite Year" is out of stock but it looks like you still get the discount and the free shipping, they just will ship it later. Yes, they do. I think I had to wait for an item for a couple of months once, but they let me purchase it with the discount and shipped as soon as it arrived, and all the time my account on their site was showing the order was not completed, so I suppose I could cancel it if the waiting became too tedious.

Well I got My Favorite Year today, finally. It does not have any Peter O'Toole commentary on it that I see, just Richard Benjamin that I haven't listened too yet. I've watched about 3/4ths of the first season of Due South. It's remarkable that they seem to have all the music for the show, and there's ALOT. So much in fact that while the first time I saw the show I loved all of it and yet now it seems like there's an awfully lot of dialogue-less chasing with neat quirkly music. The show is still charming but it's not as dialogue intensive as say Steele by a long shot. I don't think it's as well written either. And while Paul Gross and his Mountie is still adorable I'm more appreciative of the actor playing Vecchio because he's the best thing in it along with Deifenbecker the deaf wolf. The show as I read on Amazon is also obviously done from tape and not digital masters because it looks like high quality VHS, not DVD. And there's even a rolling tape glitch in one episode. This would annnoy me if I paid full price but I didn't and I knew about it (the VHS quality not the glitch) before hand and made my choice to buy these and not the 5 -10 times more expensive Canadian versions.

What the sheep dippin' hell??! We wuz robbed! I got my copy a couple of days ago (talk about cheap packaging!) but haven't looked at it yet. No fair, even if angst-auteur Richard Benjamin would probably be amusing / informative and I have a reason for a fondness for him of longstanding - anyone old enough to remember the before-its-time 60's comedy "He & She"? It would have been interesting if there had been a RS DVD commentary on the episode "Scene Steelers," which seems so clearly inspired by "My Favorite Year." Sozzled Derek Vyvyan is the Alan Swann of the 80's.<wink> Outside the show's original scoring, I remember they used a lot of Sarah MacLachlan, who's Canadian, and some Willie Nelson, who isn't, LOL! I wouldn't really disagree with anyone who says the show jumped the shark / lost a bit of its soul when David Marciano left. The new "Ray" didn't have the same chemistry. The replacement Deifenbacher didn't have as much charisma, either, eh?

It would have been interesting if there had been a RS DVD commentary on the episode "Scene Steelers," which seems so clearly inspired by "My Favorite Year." Sozzled Derek Vyvyan is the Alan Swann of the 80's. In the end though it all goes back to Errol. Even that recreated fencing scene film clip in the film is a direct rip off (costumes, stairs, etc) from Robin Hood. They even use the famous David Niven line about Errol "Could always depend on him to let you down." No O'Toole commenatry is very dissapointing though Benjamin's is nice if not great. Keith Callum Rennie was cute and his character of Ray was OK, but just not the same at all. He was quirky and yes they tried to make him a romantic underneath for layers but he didn't have the droll humor and pure heart of Marciano's Vecchio. Hiring another Canadian (even if he was playing American) to play againt Gross also diluted much of the frission, and Frasier as a character also changed. I didn't remember that Deifenbacher was recast! I did notice that Ted Haggis was his trainer and when Paul Haggis was tossed from his own series I gather Ted Haggis and his wonderous dog went with them. This show introduced me to Maclachlan and probably many others in America. Willie, I already knew. Ace

Well, sink me, I was trying not to mention Derek Vyvyan in the same breath as the devilish Tasmanian, but, bien sur, his wicked ways are the inspiration, that goes without saying.
That's right. Well spotted. The Adventures of Robin Hood was on TV some time last weekend. About four notes of Korngold's score from the other room and I knew, LOL! The film holds up so marvelously well today. I believe there are some choice extras on the DVD, though I don't have it. A "gag reel" for one, that's lots of fun.
The first Deifenbacher knew his Method. The dog was deep!

And now the 20% sale is on. Sale dates 11/10-11/18, code SUPERSALE. Some things are tempting but I think I mildly burnt myself out on their last 2 for 1 sale (wound up buying 8 films for about $30). Then again X-Mas is coming up... Ace

Yep, I've got my list started. Did you by any chance notice that Amazon seems to have caught on and has sales or lowered prices on a number of DVDs right now? You might want to double-check comparisons before you order.

I have too many things on my list that I keep trying to convince myself I don't need. I have seen that Amazon tends to now have big sales during DDD's 20% fest. They did the same when DDD was more regularly having 2 for 1 sales. Alas, I haven't seen any of those around for some time. I was hoping to pick up some TV shows that way.

DD had a 2 for 1 not terribly long ago, with TV shows, but I don't recall much of what they have. Were you hoping to round out your Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman collection?

Um no. I have my eye on Rockford, Quantum Leap (though if the exchange rates weren't so bad now I'd rather have the music in tact versions from the Uk), Soap (though I had my chance before and put it off) , maybe Mission Impossible and some others that actually only have one season out so far like Banacek (though Season 2 is coming out soon and it's cheaper than the first at least on Amazon).

Ace, you mean QL in the U.S. doesn't have original music?? What about one of my favorite eps, the Man of La Mancha one? Never saw a whole season of any particular year, but always liked Scott Bakula. And am I the only one who doesn't remember one or two movies I've wanted until AFTER DDD's sale?

I don't know about that particular episode but a lot of the music has been stripped and changed. But just on the U.S. discs. Sam still plays "Imagine" on his guitar to his sister but Al and Lisa no longer dance to "Georgia On My Mind". So it's hit and miss.
Just from Season 3 these have been replaced:
THE LEAP BACK "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby"
PLAY BALL "Traveling Man"
HURRICANE "It's a Beautiful Morning"
RUNNING FOR HONOR "Easier Said Than Done"
TEMPTATION EYES "I Want to Know What Love Is"
IT'S A WONDERFUL LEAP "Someone to Watch Over Me" "Somewhere"
MOMENTS TO LIVE "All I Have to Do Is Dream"
STAND-UP "Orange Colored Sky" "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" "World Is Brighter"
