Yeah. I don't read those, either.

I'd like to draw everybody's attention to the fact that at the bottom of each post there are now two new links. One takes you back to the top of the thread. The other one allows you to link to it (=an individual post) from another post/location. A very handy addition!

A couple of Admin questions where feedback is greatly appreciated.
1) The Birthday post. The board has a calendar section that notes everyone's birthday with a small cake. Great, except there is no way for an individual to opt out of having their birthday publically displayed if I turn the option on. If it's turned off, which it is now, then I'm the only one that sees when birthdays are announced. Even then I'm loathe to make a note of it in the topic unless I know someone would like their birthday acknowledged since not everyone does. So...
a) Should everyone actively "opt in" (here or in another topic for a Birthday List) if they want their birthday public knowledge. Or should people have to publicly opt out if the don't want it acknowledged? Both have their drawbacks. Many people are on this board but never post and ergo might not know they have to "opt out".
b) We just mention birthdays when we personally know it's someone's birthday and we know the person and know they'd like it and no admin policy or opting in or out is necessary.
2)Board Topics Since the board is almost 3 years old (hard to believe eh?) the topics might be getting a tad convoluted. For example, should TV & Films be separated into topics for separate films or TV programs or mini-series, or separate eras, or just past/current/future films or some other combination? Or is it fine just the way it is?

I just found this post. Um, do you want my opinion? I see no one else has given theirs, making my normal response sound even more lame than usual, "Whatever the majority says". Since I have one of those dreaded "birthdays" coming up, I really don't care if it posted or not. Does that help? About the issue of security, I really do doubt anyone could find my ID and other pertinent information by looking up Myrtle Groggins born May 23, 1952 in the state of Confusion. It's more likely that someone would steal our identities simply by stealing our wallets. I like the birthday thread. That seems to work nicely. I think. I also just found that tonight. I do kind of wish the board topics were separated a bit differently. It drives me insane when I have to read a thread about one movie and that thread is something like 12 pages long or worse, 45, like The Matador. But I guess you were trying to keep everything together instead of having gajillion threads about the same film. Dividing TV, mini-series, and movies by era would be interesting. Or you can just do whatever the majority sees fit. Do you think this is how Communism took control?

MOD NOTE
1) The Birthday posts. I'm keeping the calendar Admin Eyes only to give people the choice of whether to reveal their birthday. If you'd like your Birthday acknowledged or don't mind then post that here or pm me and I'll make a list.
2) I'm keeping the board topics as they are for now because I'm too lazy to re-order them.
3) I've made creating threads Registered members only to try and cut down on the spam that seems to be increasing. If the spam starts to take shape as posts in existing topics I might have to make posting members only (except for off topic because if there's a posting problem members need to post somewhere)

Harder, but not impossible.

Admin Note:
OK, I've (probably) decided to create some subcategories and would like to know preferences. There are two ways to divide the Board. By having all the new categories show up on the main page or to have them as subcategories under existing topics.
For Example: I can open a new Film & TV Board (not under General) and on the front page you'll see:
TV & Films:
Films (2000- current) Films (1980-2000) Films: Upcoming & Rumored Mini-Series & TV Movies Documentaries
Or I can make those all existing subcategories under the existing Films & TV and you'll have to access two levels to get into your topic.
I've also considered breaking up Bond and RS into 2 subcategories. One for news and articles and the other for actual discussion of episodes and films. Opinions?
Will this make discussions easier or harder to find? Will it make it easier or harder to start new discussions and add to old one? Is it a more user-friendly way to make the board or more a pain the ass?
By breaking up the films for example it would also make it easier to post separate topics on individual films instead of having 45 pages on The Matador for example. I could even make separte film subcategories in the subcategories for the new more talked about movies.
Of course the read the last 20 posts option will show them all up no matter where they're nestled.
Opinions?

I like the idea of a Film & Tv Board but I'd put films and tv movies together because to be honest I'm not sure of what of his earliest films went just on tv. One reason could be that I was too young but then there are also the reason that not every Pierce's movie that went on US theatres went in theatre in all the European countries. For ex. The Matador hasn't been released in Italian theatres yet and I guess it will never.
Breaking up Bond and RS in to 2 subcategories as you said I guess will make it easier to find what one is searching for. The same for the fims, having them listed in the Film and TV Board should make easier to find everything one would know about it.

Good point about what's a film and what's a TV movie but I didn't want Mini-Series to be so empty and there is a difference in films that are just made for U.S. TV and films that are made to be shown theatrically and just don't get theatrical distribution, whether in the rest of the world or even the U.S. There's a major difference between Grey Owl than Detonator II. Then again Robinson Crusoe was made for TV, then yanked and planned for theatrical then wound up on TV years later anyway. And what about Entangled? I don't even know if it was made initially for TV or a theatrical release. Maybe I could just divide by decades and split up the 70/80s from the 90s and the 00's. But that might not be enough division and we'd wind up with a clogged topic since there might be too many in one category. I could always list the films in the description. or even creat sub categories for every specific film. I just don't know if that would be too rigid for some and keep people from feeling like they can still overlap in discussion. I'm also wondering if I should break up Media more into Photos /Interviews/ and Audio & Video? Something to think about. Thank you for your feedback.

Does it mean we will have 2 threads for The Matador - one for when it was in making and in the theaters and the other for after it went off the screens - in 2 different forums? Or will it still be 1 thread, but you will move it from "now" forum into "once" forum? As for arranging films by decades, I realize you're the posessor of the supreme knowledge, but I suspect quite a few posters will ahve to look up a movie in IMDB before knowing where to post What's wrong with the way thing are? Some (albeit rare) posters don't even know what forum to post their questions to; I think having more choices will make it even harder for them. I'm sure regular posters will get used to whatever you come up with, though.

All Matador stuff would be in the same topic, this would just allow for different threads so that discussion of the DVD specs wouldn't be in the same thread with casting news with spoilers with articles etc. Of course it's too late for past topics within The Matador (I can't cut by single threads) but would more affect new films. This way people wouldn't have to go through 40 pages in one thread to find what they wanted. All new movies would be in the same category 2000-present unless people would rather have different sub categories for all of them. As for people becoming more confused about where to post, that was one of questions. Whether re-division is even needed or wanted. If they'd rather have the option to make multiple threads on the same film without overwhelming the space in the topic and shoving off other threads to the back pages. or if they'd just like me to make topics like Casting/ Spoilers/ Filming/ DVD for each film so there would still be main threads but a little more theme specific. Or if people would rather just have long single thread then here's the place and time to tell me. I could just separate films rumored from current and past so people could find the news easier and the just move films when they become fact or past.

Really though it's not much different from Steele and Bond having their own topics with multiple threads. It's just that one has 94 episodes and the other had 4 films so they're easy to see as separate topics. By dividing current/past films or Tv/Documentary/Mini series or whatever it would just be making a similiar division.

Yes, it's what it looks like. I screwed up. Majorly. I was deleting the sub boards I had made earlier. Hit backspace and accidently deleted the ENTIRE Film & TV board. It didn't even ask if I was sure and it was pffft gone all gone. And there's no way to undelete.
I might be able to salavge some threads in thread form from Google but as of now it's all in the ether. If anyone wants to help look for threads or kept any I'd be very appreciative.
So far I found Butterfly on A Wheel from the start to mid May.
Matador and ATS seem fractured all over and even if I get all the pages the idea of organizing it and cutting and pasting is arhhhhhh...
*whine*

Or is it time to get out the Xanax salad sprinkles? I haven't saved any threads, but maybe I can find some.

Tequila and Xanax would be nice. I should have had more coffee before I hit the back button, though why going backward would me yes I want to delete 1000s of post is beyond me.
If you could find as many Matador /ATS or LOA threads as possible I'd be obliged. So far I've found about three pages.
For some reason Butterfly was conveniently nested all in one cached page up until May 15th so we haven't lost much there.
Seraphim Falls also has baout 4 of the 7 pages.
I couldn't find anything on Marriage except one page but the topic hasn't been around alot.
All the other miscellanious threads are probaly around in bits but I haven't started searhing yet.
This is probably a good time to reorganize the board vut I don't have it in me to even want to try right now.

Admin Note: Instead of doing a board overhaul (especially after the trauma of losing most of TV & Film) I've set up 3 sub boards, mostly to separate some material that seems to get lost in the larger topics.
I've created:
"Discussion of PB Bond films & Video Games" in Bond James Bond since those topics get lost in all the Bond news an articles.
"Steele Fan Creations" in the RS category to share and discuss RS videos, fan fiction, websites, wallpaper, captures etc since I also think those get lost in the articles and discussion of the DVDs etc.
"Upcoming & Rumored" category in Film & TV for PB projects not yet in production, or even just at the rumor stage.
I hope this makes it easier to find things and not harder to post. If there are problems with new divisions let me know. Thanks.
