I hope you're taking resumes and calling references. We wouldn't want just any riff-raff joining this crew. We want good riff-raff. cg

I must say I find it interesting that the only members who chose not to disclose their age are those younger than I am (or those who pretend to be though we know how futile that it .) Anyway, you do what you chose to do, but for now I'm the oldest member here. Does it make me eligible to pour tea? You can't possibly be older than I?

Um, for we older folks, is there a way you can slow down the NEWS section at the top. I can't read the long posts. It flashes too fast. There is one about PB in some magazines, and something about the opening of The Matador........but I can't read that fast flashing! And what's with the Gay Cruise advertisement?

No problem. I changes the speed from "little bit slow" to "slow" If that's still to fast I kick it down one more notch the "very slow". Ace

Ahem. Now I feel "very slow." Well, OK, whatever. Thanks, Ace; some longer lines were too fast for me, too, so I had to wait for rerun.

I don't understand security reasons that make one hide their age, however, I realize there may be some. I also understand why some may want to hide their age, however, I see no reason to hide mine. Please, if you don't want to display your age, don't change your mind on my account, I was only kidding.

Age, age, age - what does it matter, all things being relative? Didn't we have this conversation before, in this or some other thread?
Wait ... maybe age does matter. It's a fabulous thing and a great advantage if you've lived a life accumulating wisdom and rich experiences. It's a sad thing when one ages and has learned nothing of value to pass around. (This later wouldn't apply to any us here.)
I usually don't mention my age but for this particular board, among this rarified clubhouse of PB fans, I am proud to state (as I already have, I'm sure) that I am 8 days younger than Pierce. And the beauty is, I always will be! (Too bad I'm Gemini - close enough - we'll always have emeralds and the magic number 53.)
And speaking of "close enough", those of you who are (and you know who you are), share the envious experience of having been there when PB first landed on radar. I compare it to having been there when the Beatles first hit. An indescribabl, magical discovery, a joyous sense of "thank God you're here for us to enjoy..." Tennessee William's note to Pierce said this.
As a member of this board, I drink in all the wisdom and insights of Myrtle, Yuliya, CG, et all, and idenfify. But I also enjoy, and sometimes get knocked over by the intelligence, decency and raw class displayed by the writings of the young ones such as Sparklingblue.
-IcyCalm P.S. Why don't I "usually" mention my age? Because I get a perverse kick out of people's reaction when they learn they've underestimated my age by at least 10 years. Ha! (I've worked bloody hard for that reaction - I've earned it.)

Hey Icy, You, Pierce, and I should have a big birthday bash together sometime. MY bd is the 23rd. And I love emeralds, and love being Gemini -- that is, I and my many personalities love being Gemini (until one of us decides to be Leo, or Aries, or Taurus, or Cancer, Libra, or most regularly, Aquarius - all of the signs in my astrological chart.) ;D Thanks for slowing down the ads. I was getting frustrated because I couldn't read the long ones no matter how many times I tried.

OK, I just knocked it down to "very slow" If that's not good enough I did notice tough there's one notch below "super very slow" I don't know if the difference between "slow" and "very slow" is actully that much as concerns the amount of time the print is up. It seems to be slowing more in the down time between items.

Really, what a compliment for you, Sparkling Blue! And just for the record, I was NOT around the year Pierce was born. There were a few siblings in between that year and my own entrance into the world. ;D cg

Oh, dear CG, I hope you took no offense... I just always figured I was the more immature of us. My lesson learned here: there are certain situations when speaking in generalities is more valiant.

Oh, heavens no! No offense! It's been kind of a joke since I've been around here that no one knows the "real" number. A few years back I just decided to be 34 and stay that. LOL Otherwise, I'm afraid I do skew to the chronologically gifted side of this crew. ;D cg

With respect to internet safety, it is recommended that you not give out ANY personal information over the internet, but most especially your full name, address, phone number or birth date. They also suggest not announcing on web sites that you are going on vacation or that you are single and live alone, etc. etc. and that you not fill out Profiles on Discussion Groups/Mailing Lists sites or post your email address as you are susceptible to spam. Since I have experienced first hand how easy it is for someone on the internet to mislead everyone when it comes to who they are and that information is available from various sources that one wouldn't think were out there, I've been a little paranoid about things since. Unfortunately I have a tendency to get too emotionally involved with people I meet on the internet, and I basically am very gullible, so I just try to play it safe and at least start out by not filling in the personal information on my profile. Over time I do end up breaking this rule quite frequently in my posts however, as I tend to get excited about things and want to get to know the people I meet in places like this better and share information about myself with them, but I try to control myself, for it's really just a matter of it's better to be safe, not sorry.

Yeah, I'm familiar with those guidelines. They're as generalistic and as safe as all other sets of safety guidelines, and of course, it's everyone's right to stick or not to stick to them. I won't try to persuade or dissuade anyone.

Aren't we hard to please? I now don't have patience to wait for while shorter announcements change, and when they do change, I don't have patience to wait until the blank window changes to the next one...

You're all horrible horrible people! I wish it was something that could be personally adjusted for each user, alas it is not. It's too slow for me to read now with any patience. Luckliy, I already know what's up there. Ace
