I never saw a "Making of " for '80 Days' but 'Entertainment Tonight' did do a series of short behind the scenes featurettes.

There are various releases of 80 Days available in both the U.S. and Europe, as well as the number of discs included in each set. However, some appear to omit certain scenes included originally in the broadcast. Is there a version that is ultimately the best: the mini-series intact, appearing great in visual & audio quality (near to the condition of a true re-master), with the ET behind-the-scenes feature?
What about "Mister Johnson"? There is a version available from amazon.co.uk with a nice cover art, although it seems most of the DVDs available from amazon are not thoroughly described in detail i.e. information concerning the special features are not included in the listings anymore.

There are so many version I don't know which are missing any scenes or minutes. Mine is Region 1 flipper disc released by Image Entertainment. I think it was the first U.S. release on DVD. It has what I believe to be the full series. It's listed as 280 minutes but it has lengthy intros for each episode that other versions might not have. The version is clean though not superior (but infinitely better than my VHS tapes or the DVD of Mister Johnson). I don't think there are any versions that include the ET bts footage or any extras at all. I bought my Mister Johnson years ago ( one with the map on the cover) and when I did there wasn't any good quality version for sale or even one available in widescreen - and I don't think that has changed. It says superior quality but it's the worse looking DVD I own (though better than the horrid VHS). At least the cover is nice and not that tacky Dante's Peak photo slapped on the cover that a newer version has. (almost as bad as the poorly photoshopped Pierce from TWINE era slapped under a hat for one of the ATW80Days - ugh)

Oooh these are fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
My favorite is the one with him in full Fogg dress but in Pierce shades. The posture and attitude is so completely different from Fogg.

Love the pictures! Thanks for showing BTW! Also was it Pierce that did the ET thing? Or was it another actor that did that. Think it was not Pierce IMHO!

If I'm not mistaken, it was Eric Idle who was documenting the filming for ET.

I just found this old facebook post from Julia Nickson's page while searching to see if anyone posted the interview since I last looked ... www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=183402075072&id=34403360072Shelby T MitchellJulia Nickson November 4, 2009 Hello Julia, just joined. Loved you since Around the World in 80 Days. As I would love to get the dvd but only if they come out with bonus features, like stuff from "Entertainment Tonight" I saw them do a behind the scenes feature with four parts. Also I discovered Eric Idle and Monty Python. So I discovered you and Eric from 80 Days. Loved it! Was a fourteen-year old back then! Now I am thirty-five and not getting any younger LOL! Anyway, you look good for your age. What was it like to work with Pierce, Eric, the late Peter Ustinov, etc! Take care and Peace be with you! Julia Nickson I don't think there will ever be a bonus dvd as it was filmed too long ago. Everyone was great, so many huge stars that guested. Sir Peter was particularly a favorite of mine and gave me a beautiful shell necklace. Pierce and I were always competing on who could find the most interesting things to do on our days off, and Eric was charming. My favorite evening was when we were shooting in a small village in Thailand near the River Kwai. We stayed in a local hotel that cost a few dollars a night, ate in a little but lovely restaurant,( the food in Thailand is extraordinary), and then took pedicabs to the bridge where we had an astronomy lesson from Eric. After, we threw our leis into the river as I had been told previously that it meant you would one day return. It was my second trip to the Bridge , so there might be something to it. November 7, 2009 at 1:39pm · Like Shelby T Mitchell If only dvds existed back then! November 7, 2009 at 4:11pm · Like Shelby T Mitchell I have one of four parts of Eric on Entertainment Tonight behind the scenes is the reason I brought it up! Oh well! November 7, 2009 at 4:13pm · Like Julia Nickson He's funny but I have better legs. November 8, 2009 at 1:20am · Like ========================== I just sent a message to her to see if she would be willing to share her copy of the 1st segment, if she still has it. Hopefully she does! I'll keep you posted.
