A few years ago, I taped a version of Live Wire from the USA channel which included scenes which were omitted from the DVD release (the R-rated plus the un-rated version). The ones I remember are: Danny had a longer fight with his wife in the beginning of the movie, he had an argument with his boss over being suspended from his job (because of the senator’s influence), when he gets his gadget from his desk at home which he later uses to crack the security alarm code at the senator’s house, and two instances when he visits his daughter’s grave -- first on a rainy day he sits in his car, then he returns with his wife to say goodbye to his daughter. Were these scenes included in the original theatrical release? Does anyone know if there is a DVD or VHS version which includes these scenes? I’ve tried to find one but I’ve only found the same version without them.

There was no theatrical release. It was originally going to have one, but 'they' changed their minds about it and it went straight to USA network instead. Those extra scenes were added after "GoldenEye" came out, which was several years after "Live Wire" first came out. I'm used to having scenes cut in syndication, so it was nicely strange to have scenes *added* instead.

It is such a shame that those scenes were cut from the original release as well as on the DVD/VHS releases of the film. I just watched both versions (the taped version from USA & the DVD version) and felt that those scenes were poignant in their dramatic effect on the overall context of the story. They added more characterization and explanations to Danny’s behavior and emulated it to be above the average action movie. In the end, I preferred to watch the tv version for the complete story. I also finally had the chance to watch Laws of Attraction on TNT and noticed the additions of the deleted scenes (the devil’s staircase & the race to the castle) as mentioned in the thread for the film. Are there any other Pierce films in which scenes were added in a tv version or various versions released of the same film (scenes actually included within the film as opposed to in the special features section as deleted scenes)?

Since it’s appearance on the USA channel, the movie has only appeared on an HBO on demand channel. I was wondering about the version of the movie on this HBO channel--is it the one which includes the missing scenes I described in the initial posting or is it the same version as the DVD release? I just watched my taped version yesterday and hoped this version would be available again on tv (since it’s beginning to wear out). I rarely watch the DVD version because I always felt that most of the drama is missing without those extended scenes.

Great question. Hopefully someone else knows. I don't get HBO so I don't know what they're currently showing. I don't think I've seen the original TV version since it first aired on TV. Even when my local channels showed it it seemed like the rated DVD version. I don't recall seeing any scenes that aren't on the DVD

My latest writing project is a film analysis of “Live Wire.” I’m planning to focus on its dramatic aspects, especially in the version of the film which I believe is the originally broadcasted one on HBO (running time of 90 minutes or more). Does anyone have a copy of this version available? It can be from any channel: HBO, USA network, or perhaps the On Demand channels (currently the film is appearing on one of them)--as long as the version contains the scenes which I described in detail in the initial posting on this thread. If you do have it, you can contact me via the inbox for personal messages to discuss payment arrangements. Thankyou very much for considering this request.

I’m still searching for a copy of ‘Live Wire’ which includes the extra scenes I had described : Danny had a longer fight with his wife in the beginning of the movie, he had an argument with his boss over being suspended from his job (because of the senator’s influence), when he gets his gadget from his desk at home which he later uses to crack the security alarm code at the senator’s house, a scene at his daughter’s funeral, and two instances when he visits his daughter’s grave -- first on a rainy day he sits in his car, then he returns with his wife to say goodbye to his daughter. I am truly disappointed that New Line didn’t release the film with these scenes (they chose to have four versions of the film available in both widescreen & fullscreen, editing it down to 86 minutes – which gave them enough room on a single disc for all of those versions instead, so we lose some really good scenes). I’m sure it was a marketing strategy to make viewers interested in seeing the film but I still think it was unnecessary. Ebay used to have a ‘post a want ad’ feature and I did post one for this version I’ve described. However, ebay no longer has this ad feature anymore. It is as frustrating as the music changes on the RS DVDs and the deleted scene from “Hearts of Steele” and part of the birthday scene in “Breath of Steele.” Since no one has responded, I assume nobody has this version of ‘Live Wire’ recorded from tv? I'd really appreciate it to find this version to finally complete my PB DVD collection because it is the version I prefer over the officially released one.

What deleted scene from 'Hearts of Steele'? Is this mentioned in another thread that I haven't seen yet? I don't want to take over this thread with talk of another show:)
I enjoyed Live Wire and never knew there were so many different versions with different cuts!

Loogthan, let me know if you need help with that project. I am an academic writer and if you need a steady pair of eyes once you hit the editing process, I'm here.
Now, finding this USA version could be interesting. Let me check with an acquaintance and see if there is a database for such things.

I think there was discussion of cuts in the Steele section when the DVDs came out. On the DVDs there are cuts because of music rights. Laura drunk and singing "I can't get no Satisfaction" for a couple of lines in Hearts and the telegram singing girls singing in Breath of Steele doing "Happy Birthday". Other music changes where FOX didn't want to pay for rights are in the soundtrack (the removal of Tony Bennett and butchering of Steele Trying) but these two resulted in cuts in the actual scenes.

I went to look for Live Wire and I hate to say this...I don't think that is him doing the bathtub scene once things...suds up. Either that or all those many years ago he looked different when he was wet.
