Ah but that's not really a part of the DVD just anther DVD tossed in for special customers of Walmart. Yes, but would I buy it before December 5 if not for this special? I feel I'm an injured party no matter what. Frankly, all I want from LOTR DVDs is the extended versions. There are a couple of great Easter Eggs, too (and a couple of stupid ones I wish I hadn't bothered watching.) I keep meaning to look through the rest of the special features to see if anything else is worth watching, but the only one I would love to see is the "Join with the Matrix, Mr. Aragorn" clip that is neither on the first edition nor, I understand, on the second one, so I'm fine, even though, of course, it's wrong of them to cheat nevertheless. I'm not sure what you mean by extended footage of the Pirates. Does the SE have extended versions? I didn't look into the matter that closely; I just decided to wait until the 3rd movie comes out - it's going to be soon enough anyway. Or do you imply the 2nd movie is too long? I saw it at the theater once, so I didn't notice it.

I feel I'm an injured party no matter what. How so? You got the extra disc. Now if they were giving it away with current DVDs at a lower price then you'd have a grievance. Pirates doesn't have an extended version that I know of and if they did it would be unwatchable IMO. It's already too long. I think it would be a much better film with some editing. I haven't seen the second because I didn't hear good things about it and a main complaint was that it was too long (even more so than the first). Now I'm not adverse to a long movie, I enjoy many long films. (see: Laurence of Arabia). But a film better earn that length with actual content and not bloated meandering because the writer can't get to the point , the producer demands everything expensive filmed winds up on the screen or the director never shot a piece of film he could bare to cut. (see: Peter Jackson's King Kong) Basically you can make a long film but if you do you better be the Dickens and not Stephen King/Anne Rice of the film world. /end of rant. Ace

I knew they were luring customers with the extra disk and I knew I allowed to be lured because I wanted it. Actually, I'm sort of gratefuful, because who knows for how long I would have procrastinated if not for that extra disk? I have a grievance with the DVD-makers who release so many different versions at different times, making people buy more and more. I probably wouldn't buy another one anyway, but I feel cheated along with the rest of law-abiding customers. Why see King Kong? I did, though, to make sure I was right in not allowing my 10-year-old son to do that. I can't tell if Pirates-1 was too long. Maybe it was. I've seen it a couple of times on TV, which probably means I've never seen it in one stretch of time. It's not too long to be viewed in 3 pieces. And I enjoyed it enough to think I want to own it on DVD - it will make a nice mood-changer or ironing background movie, and with a remote I'll be able to fast forward whatever bores me. I saw Pirates-2 in a theater and I liked it. Probably because I didn't expect too much. I went for Johnny Depp, wandered if I'd be entertained, and was afraid the 2nd one would be worse than the 1st one, and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe the movie would prove too long at the second viewing, but there is the same olf FF feature again, but it certainly was entertaining. And there are two very funny action sequences certainly worth seeing. I wouldn't compare either movie with Lawrence of Arabia, but I had a good time, which is more than I can say of most movies out there now.

I hate to disrupt the discussion, but what's up with the extra Matador DVD from Walmart? What did I miss?

Wal-Mart sold Matador with a bonus disk, which contained the press conference held at Toronto Film Festival and E! Behind the Scenes (or Making the Movie) extras. The disk was Wal-Mart special, not sold elsewhere - they starting doing those things recently for some releases, either with a special DVD or with a soundtrack CD. I have the extra disk, computer with a DVD Rom, and email, in which Ace described what software I need to put those two together. Sparkling, I think there is a hope for you...

This certainly sounds very interesting! I'm not even sure whether Walmart over here even sells DVDs. You are too kind!

OK, I have Ace's email with instructions, but I don't think I'm smart enough to understand them. Can somebody, please, explain what I need to make a movie file out of a DVD? Obviously, DVD Shrink is not it.

DVD Shrink will actually rip your DVD to VOB files if you choose the copy to your hardrive option. But I use DVD Decrypter (or DVD Fab Decrypter) which is easier for this task and will rip your DVD unto VOB files and the push of a button. www.dvdidle.com/free.htmThen you can see which file holds the extra you want (just play/preview them with a media player like Power DVD etc), keep it and delete the rest. Then you convert the VOB files into a wmv or avi file. Several free programs will do this. Also when in this form wmv/asf you can use Windows Media Editor/Encoder etc to cut down the file to what you want if necessary or convert it to a lesser quality/smaller size. www.erightsoft.com/S5E01.html I have another program that will do that but I'll have to send you it. (check your pms) Ace

Thank you. I've done the first part, was able to view the files with PowerDvd, and vehemently rejected that option since I didn't want to ask anyone to install PowerDVD. I'll try not to stop halfway next time.

Ace, how does this link work? I tried it in Safari and Foxfire and couldn't get it to do anything. Debra >For anyone that would like to replace their DVD cover art or just look at other covers www.cdcovers.cc/search/all/matador

It says on the site: Your browser may be incompatible with this site. Only Firefox 1.5+, IE 6+ and Opera 9+ are officially supported. For me, it shows up for me with a list of all the versions with countries etc listed next to it. Then you can click on the links and get a preview of the cover art in the bottom space where it says: Select Part Click on the part you want to download: Preview: [front] [cd1] [Torrent] [NFO] and then open it and download. Try the main site and a search for Matador. If it still doesn't show up then your firewall/ad filter file is blocking something or you have version of a browser not supported www.cdcovers.cc/
