The renaming just sucks. Killing such an interesting title...

The renaming just sucks. Killing such an interesting title... Not that I should be surprised when a studio commits unoriginal sin, but, hey, not fair at all! Ack! Shame it never occurs to them in marketing a thriller that a more singular title might actually intrigue an audience..

Can't you just see the "brain" storming on this one. Pope schmope. People will think it's a nature documentary or cartoon it has to be changed. Now it can fit in with all of Lionsgate's other recent one named titles.
Gah
It's also stupid when BOAW is the title all the actors etc have been referencing in interviews over the last year. Also I wonder if this generic title will be adopted by over seas distributors. If the announcement from the festival is any indication, maybe not or they haven't been informed. I hope they change their mind before it becomes official.

Now it can fit in with all of Lionsgate's other recent one named titles. Gah "Nature documentary," LOL!!!! Butterfly on a Wheel? What the heck does that mean, anyway? Besides, if we use the "B" word in the title they'll all be looking around for Ashton Kutcher. How can they be sooo stoopid? I know, rhetorical question, LOL! IMO, any phrase that can reference Alexander Pope and Mick Jagger at the same time and work as a thriller title is OK in my book. It does occur to me that someone might have still been aware of the connection since "Shattered" is a Stones song, but I'm sure it's much more likely they just took a trip down the lane to the Lionsgate Title Factory. It would be slightly interesting if the song showed up in the soundtrack, but if it did I wish they could call the film "I Can't Give It Away on 7th Avenue." <wink> Even without the SMA on board that's a movie I might stand in line to go see, LOL! Genius strategy they've got going -- torpedo all the publicity so far and slap on a title that doesn't stand out in the least.

Lauryn, I wouldn't be holding out for any Mick on the soundtrack. It would probably mean blowing the entire music budget on one song. It's an epidemic of mediocrity From HSX: Title Chages Old ---> New Reggaeton (RGAET) --> Feel the Noise (FNOIS) Spring Break in Bosnia (SBOSN) --> The Hunting Party (HUNTP) Tonight, He Comes (TONIT) --> John Hancock (HANCK) Spring Break In Bosnia is such a GREAT title and now pfttt. I'd like to hear what Richard Shepard has to say about it's change.

Lauryn, I wouldn't be holding out for any Mick on the soundtrack. It would probably mean blowing the entire music budget on one song. You're right, alas. Curse Mick and his flesh eating lawyers! But, hey, you can't blame me for trying to find something, anything to make that title seem interesting. What fresh hell is this? What was wrong with Spring Break in Bosnia? It's brilliant, catchy, and seems like the kind of wink-wink concept title that makes everyone in Hollywood happy. I can't remember what the plot of the movie is but The Hunting Party sounds like a Merchant-Ivory film. Not so sure how that works unless Richard Shepard is really being absurdist, LOL! As to what he thinks of the change, I wouldn't be too surprised if he would resurrect Julian Noble just so he could have everyone responsible surgically removed. Unless the title was his idea, but somehow I doubt it.

I have only one thing to add: Go for it, Julian!

I might call in Julian myself.
According to GerryButler.net, BOAW now named "Shattered" is supposedly going to released in Miami of all places on July 27. Yes Miami that hub bub of film. Who needs NYC or LA? Supposedly if it does well it will expand. Huh?
This is the Lionsgate that recently released, Pride, Condemned, Bug et al on at least 1000 screens. Of course they all kind of bombed. That might have to do with the fact that Lionsgate can't market very well. Why did Lionsgate snap up BOAW in Berlin on the first day it played if this is the way they're going to treat the film? And why dumb down the title if you're going the limited release way? Isn't dumb as a marketing tool usually reserved by Hollywood for the "wide" audience.
Gah!

Supposedly they chose Miami because The Matador did well there.
Again, maybe so but it averaged about $20,000 a theater in NYC and LA when it first opened there.
Regardless, if you're in the area go see it and don't wait for it to expand to a theater down the block or it will never get to a theater down the block.

I so don't like the new name, but I'm sure it's some double entendre of some type. Heh

As Lauryn pointed out the only thing the titles have in common is The Rolling Stones. Ace

lmao, too true
But you know, that title kinda makes the movie sound a bit boring, doesn't seem like a name that'll bring people in to watch.

I'm sure those in charge of marketing probably told the distributor that BOAW was too vague and confusing for the general public. The only thing that's going to get people into the theater though is actual advertising, an actual poster and a trailer online and attached to some films people see. TV and paper ads would be better to have as well but I'm not holding my breath. Also it has no festival buzz like The Matador let alone all the publicity Pierce did for The Matador. This won't even have any of the actors promoting it initially because there doesn't seem to be the time and what kind of big magazine or TV show will give space and time for a film opening only in Miami? So far this makes Seraphim Falls distribution and marketing look good by comparison. Ace

Last night I saw a documentary about Hollywood and how the studios work. The gist of it was that studio executives are bankers, not movie lovers. BOAW (I refuse to use the new title ) seems a case in point to me.

You know, I heard "As it stands, there is no release date set for 'Butterfly on a Wheel'." Don't ask how I know, but this is kinda depressing. Now I wanna go to Sitges.

Are you talking about the US or Canada? Does that mean the Miami July 27 date is off? Or that it's the only date and city that gets it?
Frankly if that's their idea of a release pattern I'd rather not have it and have them wait to find a better release date and planned strategy with actual marketing.
Has anyone actually e-mailed Lionsgate or Maple pictures?
Ace.

No, as far as I know those other events are still on. But officially no release date is set for Butterfly. It's beyond me why it can't get released. I wonder if this is going to go the way "Pride and Glory" went, it was completed like about 3 years ago and is now finally "officially" getting released next year.
